Winners and nominees, 1969-1998
The Booker Prize (or The Booker McConnell Prize, for the more exacting
among you) was founded in 1969 by Booker McConnell, a multinational conglomerate
company. Administered by the National Book League in the United Kingdom,
this prestigious award is awarded to the best full-length novel written
in English by a citizen of the UK, the Commonwealth, Eire, Pakistan, or
South Africa. In 1992, Booker teamed up with The Tetra Pak Laval Group
in Russia to create the Russian Booker Prize.
Russian Booker Prize
In conjunction with Tetra Pak Laval, Booker first awarded this prize
in 1992. In 1992, 1993, and 1994 the winner received 10,000 pounds; nowadays
they receive 10,000 dollars and up to five runners-up receive 1,000 dollars.
