I stretched the photo again so that the forehead was slightly larger. I draw in the hair and carefully join the lines up with the sideburns. I increased the forehead slightly more by drawing just inside the hairline. This way I don't have to increase the photo again as the other lines joined up just right.
I'm satisfied with the lines at this point and again, I hide and unhide the photo layer to check to see how the lines and overall caricature look and then I change the lines to black for an even better study. As I look, I see that some features, like the length of the face and the width of the hair need to be altered just a bit but I'll leave it for now. The imprtant thing is that with all the altering I've done, it still basically looks like Tom Hanks. (below left) That's a bonus! If at this point there's no resemblance, go back and fix it. Practice!!!!
I then stretched the photo again with the transform tool, (below right) to enlarge the ears. I don't want them big and jutting out, just longer. I find this looks right but I can see that they don't exactly line up with the drawn face so I'll draw each one seperately, select them and attached them to the face. *If I narrow the photo, I'll thin up the ears and I don't want that. Get it? Oh, and you've all been hitting the save button often, right?
Now, after drawing each ear and attaching them to the head, I've decided that indeed, they are just a bit two long. (image1) So, using my lasso tool, I selected them and shrunk them a little. (image2) I still don't like that double chin so I used the lasso tool and selected the bottom part of the face. (represented by the green line: image3) Then using the free transform tool again, I pulled the neck up closer to the chin. (image4) Much better but the face is still a little bit "fat" looking. I'll fix that next.
