"I'm a big fan of travelling by train. I think it stems from when I was at school and all the cool kids used to travel by train and my mum wouldn't let me. Instead she insisted on dropping me off and picking me up because she didn't want me getting picked on by the bigger boys. Also, if I ever get on a train these days it's usually to go back home and have food cooked and clothes washed for me. A rare treat for any self-respecting boybander.
So, today I was sitting on the tube listening to Aaron Carter on the iPod, as one does, and it got me thinking - "What is the best music video ever set on a train?"
I could actually only think of 5, but I'm sure you will agree they are all golden slices of pop..
1. Liberty X - 'Holding On For You'
I like Jessica, Michelle, Kelli, Kevin and the other one for many reasons, for example: they once asked me if I'd like a cup of tea at a recording studio, Jessica is nearly as fit as Kelly Clarkson, and they're always pretty imaginative with their music videos. Think about it, they've been spies, walked on train tracks and also had the best showing of 'camel toe' I've ever seen anywhere (in 'Got to have your love'). 'Holding On For You' was also a pretty nice song. Apparently the video is set in Russia which is cool because I didn't realise they had the tube there. Who said pop music can't be educational?
2. Savage Garden - 'I Knew I Loved You'
I'm not that big a Darren Hayes fan to be honest. I preferred him when he hung around with the guy who never said or did anything. Sometimes people are really cool when they're partnered with someone who doesn't do anything - take David Beckham for instance. However, I do have fond memories of this song as I used to sing it at boy band auditions. Also, Kirsten Dunst is in the video. Although, I don't actually like her either. I've always thought the part of Mary Jane in the Spiderman movies should've been given to Bianca out of EastEnders. At least she was a natural red head.
3. Aqua - 'Turn Back Time'
It's always nice when a band who normally makes really shit music comes out with a cracker of a ballad - like Hoobastank. This is a lovely song and the video is great because it mirrors the movie from which it was taken. V did that with 'Blood, Sweat & Tears' - 'Hot Young Sluts Part 3' is available on general release now.
4. Alex Parks - Cry
Where have you gone, Alex?! I voted for you ten bloody times now get back here and make some nice Coldplay-esque pop. 'Cry' believe it or not was one of my favourite songs of last year.
5. Darren Hayes - Pop!ular
Before you say anything, yes I know I said I didn't like Darren Hayes anymore but this video is the only other one I could think of. Plus, my mate is dancing in it so that makes it ok to stick it in.
And the winner is..... Liberty X. Congratulations, a pack of Maris Pipers is on its way to you. "Why did they win? Aqua are so much cooler!" I hear you cry, Well, they won because they're the ones I'm most likely to meet on my boyband travels so I've got to be nice really, havent I. Plus, Kelli will probably kick my ass for the camel toe remark. I apologise.
That's your lot for this week folks. C oming next week: 'Miming'.
