Classifying pets by their social relationships with
humans
Pets can be classified into four types
according to their social relationships with humans.
The first is the anti-social pet. This pet almost
never bonds with humans, and prefers to be left
alone, such as fish which will die if handled or
moved constantly. The pet that has been abused and
forgotten (lack of human contact) may become
anti-social.
The second type is the slightly-social pet. This is
the pet that bonds with only one person. They will
become aggresive if handled by more than one
person. The third type is the medium-social pet.
These pets connect with humans on a limited basis.
For instance, they will bond with humans for only
short periods of time. This type of pet might
include the outside dog, and the pet that enjoys
having his/her own space. This pet might bite when
exercising their right to be left alone.
Finally, the last type is the highly-social pet.
This pet bonds with almost anyone. For exampe,
the Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever both
enjoy being around people. These two breeds are
excellent with children and adults. This pet may
become depressed if isolated from humans.
All pets have their own personalities and therefore
their social relationships with humans are
different for each pet.
