            Harry Best lives with his wife, Elsie, in a small town near Birmingham. They haven’t got any children. Everyday Harry goes to work in Birmingham. He takes the 8.30 train and only returns home by the end of the afternoon. He comes back home at five thirty every evening.

            Every summer Harry and Elsie go on holiday to the seaside. They always stay in England because Harry doesn’t like foreign food and they don’t speak any foreign languages. Each year they visit a different spot of Britain's shores (1). Usually they prefer camping but sometimes they decide to rent (2) a small cottage (3) for a longer period. Harry has a small old car which they use on their holidays but since it gives so many problems he says he needs to buy a new car. However, Elsie thinks that what they need is a different means of transportation. Both of them are still young so she says that they can travel by train, and then they must rent two bikes and use it to go around the places they want to visit.

            They are very excited this year because they wish to try a completely different type of holidays. This time they want to visit Northern Ireland.

            Jim and Lisa Watson live in London. They live in a house in a busy (1) street. They walk to school.

        London is great”, says Jim, “it’s got cinemas and discos and shops and lots of football teams.” Lisa thinks there are good and bad things about London. “In a city, you have friends and there are things to do, but it’s noisy and dirty (2). We go to the country when we have a holiday or we go to a park in the centre.”

 

            Clare Thomas and Gary Bell live in a village in Norfolk. Clare lives in a cottage (3) with a garden. Gary lives above his mother’s shop. It’s a small supermarket. Clare goes to school in Norwich and goes on a special bus. Gary walks to school in Aylsham.

The Norman families were on a ship called The Princess Diana.

Denis Norman and his wife, Brenda, were with their two children, Martin and Marina.

‘Good morning, everyone!’, said the captain. ‘The island you can see over there is called Fruit Tree Island. If you want to visit it, please go down into the boat.’

‘Come on, Denis’ said Mrs. Norman.

'You can swim or go for a walk,’ said the captain, ‘but please come back here before three o'clock. We must be on the ship at three o'clock.’

‘Let's go for a walk' said Martin. 'It’s not too hot. We can take some nice photographs with Dad's camera.’ The Normans went up a hill in the centre of the island.

‘I can see all of the island from here!' said Martin.

Oh, yes’ said Mrs. Norman. 'And look There's our ship' 'What's the time, Dad?' Mr. Norman looked at his new [Tock] watch. 'Two o'clock. We need to leave now.’

When the Normans arrived at the beach, nobody was there.

'Where is everybody?' cried Mrs. Norman. 'Where's the captain? Where’s the boat?’

'Perhaps this is the wrong beach,’ said Martin.

Then Marina saw something. 'Oh, no!’ she said. 'Look!'

Far away they could see The Princess Diana - leaving the island!
