Basic Rules

The Bare infinitive (infinitive without "TO") is generally used in the following situations:

a) after modal verbs like Can/ Could, May/ Might, Shall/ Should, Will/ Would;

b) to express strong advice, using the phrase: "had better" + bare infinitive;

c) to express preferences, using the expression: "would rather" + bare infinitive.
Complete by providing the correct verb from the given list for each context, using the appropriate expression: (be/swim/play/study/drive)

modal + bare infinitive;
had better + bare infinitive
would rather + bare infinitive
