Uchiha itachi is the other survivor of the Uchiha clan, and Sasuke's older brother.he killed the Uchiha clan and left Sasuke alive.
His motives for doing so are still unknown.
His reasons for leaving Sasuke alive are unknown as well, but two possibilities are left: one, because only another mangekyou sharingan user can
defeat him, and two, that Sasuke "wasn't worth killing". Other than that no reason for keeping Sasuke alive orkilling his clan were cited.
Itachi possesses the higher form of the Sharingan, the Mangekyou Sharingan. Nothing much was said about this sharingan as well, other than well,
it has an enhanced sharingan.
He is part of Akatsuki, a group of 8 "sly S-rank criminals", as Jiraiya has stated. It can be deduced by their objective in kidnapping Naruto (and presently, Gaara)
that they are after the mystical monsters (I dunno if there are more of them) that possess great power.
More is yet to be seen of Itachi, as his character is still shrouded in mystery.
