♥ MUSIC FICTION >>> AGAINST ALL ODDS >>> CHAPTER 030

I grinned at Diana as I took her hand in mine, swinging our hands back and forth as we walked towards the doctors. Diana was going to have another ultra sound and we were about to get another update on how Angel was going. Diana laughed as I continued to swing our hands back and forth.

"What are you so happy about?" She grinned.

"We get to see Angel again," I answered and flashed her a cheesey smile.

"You're only happy because you don't have to drink eight million litres of water before hand and then have someone press hard on your abdomen," She teased with a smile.

"You know I'd love to help you out and all; but..." I paused, "No can do!"

"Oookay, you're scaring me now Scotty," She smirked as we entered the large marbled foyer of the gynaecology unit of the hospital and wait for the lift to take us to the fifth floor. I simply grinned at her in response and pulled her into a hug as soon as we got into the elevator.

"You know you love me," I whispered in her ear and kissed her cheek lightly.

I shoved my hands in my pockets as I stood with Mandi, JJ and her parents at the bus depot, where she would catch the bus to take her to her grandparents... for who knows how long. I rocked back and forth on my heels and sighed softly. I had barely met Mandi more than a week ago and already I felt like I knew her inside and out. She was absolutely amazing and everything I was looking for in a girl, and now... I don't know if I would ever have the chance to make her mine.

"Mandi!" I heard a female voice call out from furthur down the terminal. I saw Mandi's two friends, Nycto and Atlantica, whom I had met at skating that night, run up to Mandi and envelop her in a hug.

"You weren't gonna let us say good bye?" Atlantica asked softly as she tucked some of Mandi's dark hair behind her ears.

"I... I thought, I didn't... it would be too hard," Mandi whispered and I saw her eyes glistening with unshed tears.

"Hey, it's okay," Nycto replied softly, "We'll still call each other right? And there's always good ol' snail mail."

Mandi nodded in response and wiped at her eyes. I jumped a little as the boarding call for Mandi's bus sounded out over the loud speaker. Mandi bit her lip and hugged the tow girls before turning towards me.

"So," I said softly before hugging her tightly, "Just promise me you'll ring, okay?"

She nodded, and I felt her hot tears on my shoulder as she finally let her emotions show.

"Nycto and Attie are single you know," Dave spoke up as he, Bob and I watched TV silently.

"Really?" Bob asked interestedly. Dave nodded and I sighed loudly. All we had heard about since that niht at skating was how wonderful and pretty Nycto and Atlantica were. Didn't they realise that one of our friends had a serious problem?

"Guys," I said softly, deciding to let them in on what I suspected, hoping that they would cure my fears. Dave and Bob turned to look at me and my next words were drowned out by Scott as he came screaming into the room with a bunch of photos in his hands.

My sentence was forgotten, and their attention was diverted to Scott and Diana and the pictures that were proudly displaying.
I took one of the photos off Scott and smiled at the black and white grainy image of Angel, curled up inside Diana's stomach. I'd tell them another day; no need to worry everyone when they were all so happy. For now, I would deal with this by myself.

I sighed as I checked my reflection in the mirror. Attie's and my date with Bradley and Oliver was tonight and my mother was going to make sure I was looking my best. And my best meant I was to wear a skirt and I had to tidy up my unruly curls, Attie was in the bathroom right now searching for some clips for my hair. If anyone knew how to look girly and still look good; it was her.

I had borrowed Attie's three quarter denim skirt, and at first my mum had been less than pleased, but decided she quite liked it when she noticed the trim of white lace around the bottom of the skirt. With that I had added a fitted white button up shirt and Attie had curled my hair and was now about to pin it back off my face.

Attie was wearing a light blue skirt that had little sprigs of white flowers on it and a white peasant top. I don't know where the Cunningham boys were going to take us, but I felt incredibly dressed up, and for no reason. Attie had even painted my nails in french tip. I had a feeling this was going to be a long night.

While I liked Bradley fair enough, it was Oliver and his cocky attitude that got on my nerves. All the parents at church loved him, but I wasn't sure how much I could stand without puking. It was all a little to nicey-nice for me.

"Maybe it won't be so bad," Attie said as she sat me down infront of the mirror. I raised my eyeborws at her and she laughed. "Let's try to be optimistic, okay?"
