I was playing around with Optimash last night and came up with this version.  It's nothing too imaginative, just the potato body upside down, but I think it looks even sillier than the original configuration.  Zeatha likes it too and spurred me on to snap a photo.  The helmet doesn't stay on very well this way and the front truck part doesn't lock in anywhere except under the face plate, but otherwise it's stable.
