In the year 1993, the first SVT Cobras based on the Fox Body Mustang with a 5.0 Liter EFI V8 engine appeared in a street legal version as well as in a racing version designated as Cobra R. | ||||||||

| After the introduction of the SN-95 platform, the production of SVT Cobras with the 5.0 Liter V8 continued. The '95 Cobra R model, however, was equipped with a 5.8 Liter Windsor. The '96 SVT Cobras received a new 4.6 Liter Modular DOHC V8 that served as base engine for all later models. A special version named "Mystic" Cobra offered a paint job with a color-shifting effect. | |

The '99 SVT Cobras differed from their predecessors mainly in their exterior design. For the 2000 Cobra R model, the displacement of the 4.6 Liter V8 engine was enlarged to 5.4 Liter. In addition, Ford presented a "Mystic Gold" Cobra version that actually never was produced for the public. | ||||||||

For the model year 2003, the 4.6 Liter V8 engine of the Cobras was refined with a supercharger. The 2004 model once more appeared in an exclusive "MystiChrome" version with a paint that changes its color depending on the viewing angle. | ||||||||

After a break of three years, the next SVT Cobra generation was offered again since the model year 2007. It is now equipped with a supercharged 5.4 Liter V8 engine and carries the designation GT500 in reminiscence of the hot Shelby Muscle Cars from the sixties. | ||||||||
