Uphill Battles

"It's an uphill battle against the status quo and our own tendencies."
~ Scott Belsky

Mental illnesses, in all colors, shapes, and sizes, are an uphill battle.  Sometimes we're at the top, triumphant; sometimes we're at the bottom, in a trench of despair.  Most often, we're somewhere in the middle, just trying to get somewhere.

The battle isn't ours alone.  Our loved ones, our families and friends travel with us, out of love or tenacity or circumstance.  This fight takes a toll on every one of us.  That's why this page exists...an island of solace in the turbulant world, where we can arm ourselves with knowledge, get a chance to laugh a little, or engage in a conversation on the message boards.  This is also a place for the passengers of our ride through torments, highs, lows, and normals.

We fight for acceptance and understanding and awareness, and we exist for the purpose of working toward all of those.  But as important those battles are is the one we have with ourselves.  Accepting our status quo - accepting that this is our normal, our baseline.  We find that acceptance isn't the only thing worth finding while we fight.  We must also find our way to forgiveness - to forgive ourselves for what seem like character flaws.  For thinking success means beating our illness.  For thinking we should be stronger. For thinking we've let the world down.  For thinking the world has forgotten us.
It hasn't.  And with us working together, it won't.
