U.K. RELEASED TOP TEN - Dave Godin -

"Un Raggio di Soul" is a lively legend that constantly regenerate itself " (Jazz FM)

1)  JEFF PERRY - " LOVE DON'T COME NO STRONGER  " - ARISTA

Well, now it's released, EVERYBODY's claiming they're responsable for it ! Well, for the record, Chriss Hill played it at his disco first, Andy Peebles played it on the air first, and i wrote about it first !

Not that this really matters, but as Arista seem to know so little about their own Soul product, I set the record straight now more for their benefit than anyone else's !  Little I can add to the perpetual raving I've given the side already, except to hope that imports haven't symphoned off too many sales for it to have a chance at chart honours now. An utterly brilliant sound that I urge everyone to get.

Arista/Bell might not deserve a hit, but Jeff Perry does !

2) DEBBIE TAYLOR - " I DIDN'T WANNA LEAVE YOU " - ARISTA

Now this one I'd have symphatised with any reluctance to issue in this country. It won't do a thing, and anyone who DID urge Arista to issue it needs their heads examined !

Utterly brilliant, marvellous and all the rest of it, but SO uncommercial for this country I'd be happily surprised if it sold more than a thousand copies. One of the year's best released though.

Take advantage of Bay City Roller subsidy on each copy's loss.

3) SANDI SHELDON - " YOU'RE GONNA MAKE ME LOVE YOU " - EPIC

It is a little known fact that this side was contracted to be released on Soul City before that label's emise, and it's strange to consider that this is its first ever airing in this country.

Too late now i fear just as had it come out on Soul City would have been too soon. Somewhere between the two dates, and it might have happened. But, that said, it's still a classic - truly an "all time masterpiece&nbbsp; and an example of Van McCoy at his most inspired and creative peak.

4) JAMES & BOBBY PURIFY - " I'M YOUR PUPPET " - MERCURY

Am delighted that at last this record has put up a chart showing since I've had great faith in it since it was issued.

Good to know that Phonogram too don't give up too easily on records they've got faith in.

5) THE STAIRSTEPS - " TELL ME WHY " - DARK HORSE

Woodoo Intensity on masterful side.

6) THE MOMENTS - " NINE TIMES " - ALL PLATINUM

Nice, optimistic and familiar formula from The Moments, who help make "All Platinum" the outstandingly significant label of our times that it is.

Should be a hit, and hopefully will be, but either way its appeal to dancers will ensure it register well in the South chart if nowhere else. That said, would "All Platinum" please re-sign the lovely Lezly Valentine ?

7) UJIMA  -  " STILL HOOKED ON YOUU " - CHELSEA

One gets tempted sometimes to take the easy route and include imports too in this weekly personal Top10, but that makes it too simple, and the discipline of having to stay solely with UK released sides ensures that I play flip sides with the same concentration and attention as I give official top sides.

It pays dividends too since otherwise I'd have missed this Deep Soul gem.

8) SUN  -  " LIVE ON, DREAM ON " - CAPITOL

Capitol deserve a big Soul hit. And I'd love to see it be this one.

9) THE COMMODORES  -  " SWEET LOVE >" - TAMLA-MOTOWN

Quite rightly, TM over here refuse to give up on this side, and are currently re-promoting it in view of its American success.

Lovely sweet melodic outing that should be a hit; how long must original creative music languish in the UK wilderness ?

10) MELBA MOORE  -  " THIS IS IT " - BUDDAH

This is it - my number 10 choice ?
