Dal punto di vista numerico ( quello che tutti chiedono il giorno dopo ) è andata male : certamente era attesa un po' più di partecipazione. Pazienza.
Qualitativamente ( fattore niente affatto secondario ) è stata una giornata eccellente : un evento improntato al "totally underplayed " che avrebbe riscosso successo ovunque, evidentemente tranne che in Italia. Comunque che Perugia non fosse Prestatyn era cosa che si sapeva già. Come anche si sapeva che l'Italia non è la Gran Bretagna. Nessuna sorpresa.
L'errore fatto - penso - non riguarda motivi di politica musicale più o meno azzeccata, quanto il fatto di aver pensato che vi fosse gente ( intendendo con questo termine i c.d. "regolari" ) avesse voglia di ascoltare buona musica, e sedicenti appassionati (intendendo con ciò tutti quelli del "circuito" ben noto) che avessero il desiderio - per una Domenica - di andare oltre i soliti brani conosciuti, provando ad approfondire ed ampliare le proprie conoscenze in fatto di soul. Evidentemente non è così. I primi non hanno rinunciato a "90^ minuto" e alla vasca al Corso, i secondi, per la maggioranza, hanno recitato la consueta parte secondo cui agli eventi soul ( siano a Perugia o a Rimini o altrove non cambia niente : ovunque ripetono la stessa frase ) "c'è troppo modern" e così o non sono venuti o sono entrati ed usciti dalla pista a seconda dell'anno di produzione del disco, il tutto secondo un copione lontano anni luce dallo spirito dell'alldayer (" forget to categorize and just enjoy !" Tim Brown.).
In generale si è riscontrato un interesse minimo per il prodotto musicale proposto. Quasi imbarazzante, poi, è stato il constatare che le copie omaggio di "Manifesto" distribuite tra i tavoli e al bar per una libera consultazione sono rimaste desolatamente intatte nella posizione di partenza; in pochissimi hanno dato qualche occhiata fugace e quasi nessuno è venuto a chiederle per riportarle a casa (!). A parte alcuni DJs, che già comprano regolarmente il magazine, solo Marco Minghelli, Leonardo, Richi El (incuriosito dalla rubrica "Soul Flavas" ) e Lele ne hanno richiesto una copia, se non ricordo male.
La disfatta, insomma, è stata più che altro "culturale" o di approccio mentale (visto che il fondo cassa ci garantiva in pieno da ogni sorpresa), perché in pratica si pensava che ci fosse in giro più "gente" disposta a spendere una manciata di euro per passare qualche ora ascoltando pezzi che difficilmente si possono godere altrove. Quelle copie intonse di "Manifesto" hanno però sentenziato che la strada da fare è ancora molto lunga.
I ringraziamenti finali più sinceri vanno a a quella "scena" soul britannica che - oltre ad essere giorno dopo giorno un continuo punto di riferimento culturale e musicale - ci ha permesso, indirettamente, di realizzare questo alldayer : delle tante magliette stampate per sostenere le spese dell'evento la stragrande maggioranza ci è stata richiesta da appassionati di oltremanica, altre sono andate in altri paesi europei (Spagna, Svezia) e qualcuna anche ... in Italia.
