Nutek Dyrrbin vs. Struan Briggs
Ultrann is standing, and speaks to the restless audience. "Welcome, all, to the second match of Session 6 between the incorrigible Nutek Dyrbbin and the swashbuckling warrior Struan Briggs! Will it be braun or trickery that wins out? We shall soon see. Grolsch, begin the match!" The crowd cheers in anticipation of some good, scandalous gladiator combat.
Struan Briggs, appears first, in front of the South Gate. He is clad in breastplate and carries an air of refinement and dignity. He comes armed with his longbow in one hand, arrow in the other, with his longsword sheathed and his small shield rests on his back.
Nutek enters next, in front of the North Gate. The dirty, unkempt goblin smiles a toothy smile (with the teeth he still has) and sticks his tongue out at his opponent. He enters unarmoured, although his crossbow rests at his side.
Struan yells to his enemy, "You are a disgrace to this arena. I will do the honour right by slaying you this evening!" With that, Struan begins to move towards his green foe. He knocks his arrow, stops aims and lets it fly, all in one quick and steady motion. Despite the distance, the arrow flies true. It slams into Nutek's chest, causing blood to spray on Nutek and the ground before him. Nutek screams in pain, but retorts, "You haven't finished me, oh righteous one! Looks like you're ready for a nap. Ssifisv thurkear!!" Struan snickers at Nutek's words. But suddenly he is overwhelmed with fatigue! He lets out an audible yawn, and falls asleep on the ground before him!
Nutek begins to laugh, although he coughs up blood in the process. He makes his way over to his slumbering opponent as quickly as he can. He dances around his opponent singing. He looks up to the audience and says, "What should I do with him, oh what shall I do?! Hee hee hee!" The crowd starts to get restless, not to mentioned annoyed with his antics. Nutek stops his dance, removes Struan's longsword from his sheath and his bow from his hand. He skips over to the pit and drops the longsword in. Next, he pulls his dagger from his boot and cuts the string on Struan's bow, before dumping it into the Pit as well. Some of the crowd begins to boo (and he scowls at them) while others chant for him to finish the fight.
Nutek waves his hands in magical gestures and says, "Looks like my dear opponent is tired out after burning the midnight oil! Maybe this will wake him up!" Suddenly, a ball of fire rolls towards Struan, striking him and setting him on fire. Struan wakes up by this impact. He stands and tries his best to pat out the flames. He then realizes his unarmed predicament! "You cowardly fiend! I will destroy you!", yells Struan. Nutek ignores him, and instead responds by tossing a couple small tarts at Struan while chanting words of magic. Struan starts to snicker as if hearing a joke, but suddenly stops and becomes angry instead. While dodging the flaming ball, he runs as fast as he can to the northeast wall, where a longsword lies for just such an occasion.
As the one flaming sphere dissolves, Struan rushes towards Nutek, screaming all the way, spinning the sword over his head. Nutek steps back and another ball of flame leaps out, rolling then scorching Struan again. Struan is almost right at Nutek, but before he can act, Nutek fires off two bolts of magical energy, which both strike Struan solidly in the chest. Straun's eyes widen in fear as Nutek begins giggling in anticipated victory. But it is not over yet. Struan says, "I told you I would kill you, little man, and I meant it!" With his dying breath, he lunges at Nutek. The sword pierces Nutek's tiny body, where the blade sticks out the other side. As blood pours from Nutek's mouth, he gurgles, "Noooo!! This can't be happening... I am... unbeatable...!!!" He collapses onto the ground. A mere moment later, Struan collapses on top of his dimunitive foe, unconscious and bleeding.
The crowd cheers at this deadly encounter, as many had not anticipated such a fight or such an end (although a few must have, as some begin to collect their winnings). As the healers rush to the two fallen enemies, Ultrann stands and claps his hands at yet another exciting gladiator fight.
Nutek: 600 XP, 190 gp. You remain undefeated, but you no longer have a perfect record!
Struan Briggs: 600 XP, 188 gp. You almost won early, and managed to react well enough to end it justly.
