What IS an RA?
Letter from the Editor
Sheryl Crow, Mike Ditka, and Senator (formerly first lady) Hilary
Clinton… what do they have in common? They were all RA’s
in college.
So were Wesley Snipes, Paul Reiser, WWF’s Chyna, and Joe
Patane from Real World Miami—He’s now director of
Residence Life at UC Berkley.
We’re not here to be your parents. We don't check to see
when you come in at night, or whether or not you’re studying
for your classes. And we’re certainly not here to keep
you from having a good time!
Our job is to do everything we can to make your college experience
as rewarding and enjoyable as it can be!
Of course there is an enforcement aspect to our job. Anytime
you do something that violates the rights of other residents
to a peaceful and safe living environment, we will intervene.
Bear in mind, however, that we will always do the same for you
when someone oversteps their rights and begins trampling on yours.
Throughout the year, we develop what we call ‘programs’.
A program can be informative, constructive, or just fun. Among
programs we’ve hosted so far, are: “Was the Attack
on America Provoked” - an open discussion of recent events, “Dive
for the Prize” - a pool party and competition sponsored
by O-Rock and Blockbuster, Community Pride Week, and the recent
Halloween Party.
We’re sure you’ll find something that interests
you.
Whether it’s a question about school, a rant about your
roommate, or a time of personal crisis, your RA and the Residence
Life staff are here to assist you 24 hours a day. That’s
why we’re called “Resident Assistants.” We
look forward to seeing you soon!

So What's Different?
As you already know, the UCF Department of Residence Life
has teamed up with College Park, the management company that
operates Knight’s Krossing Apartments. This is the first
arrangement of its kind in the world, and we hope it’s
making a positive impression.
What’s changed so far…
For the first time, residents of an apartment community have
access to all the resources of a Residence Life Department
We offer 24-hour customer service.
Crime and resident arrests have decreased. (Fewer calls to
Orange County Sheriffs)
Fewer fines levied on residents, as Residence Life provides
a level of intervention between residents and the methods used
by all other apartment complexes around the nation.
These are just a few ways the cooperation between UCF and
College Park benefits you. How has the change impacted you?
Tell us what you think!
