TyCorp is a fun,
refreshing new way to enjoy the Internet. With a dedicated
team of writers, TyCorp brings you the latest in news,
current affairs and entertainment.
TyCorp launched in May of 1999 as a way for Tynan (TyCorp
creator, president and writer) to rid himself of boredom,
and report on the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) to
all his friends. The site was crude, with not much than
one page and a small audio clip on the bottom,
demonstrating "69FM", the first ever amateur internet radio station.
As boredom progressed over the next few months, the
website evolved into a sleeker, more modern looking site
with many pages, profiles of Tynan's friends and more news
about gaming and other issues that local media wouldn't
touch. Demand grew for the site, and when June of 2000
approached, TyCorp reinvented itself once more, now
sporting a much more user friendly interface.

TyCorp 2.0 introduced the first interactive reality
internet program. What started as a daily spoof of Big
Brother (the hit reality TV series all over the world),
turned into a ratings winner with over 400 people clicking
onto the website daily to read what the people inside the
fictional house were up to.
"TyCorp Big Brother was murder!" Tynan says.
"I had to race home from school every day and hurriedly
type up a story about what a group of people had
done that day. It had to be interesting, funny, and
serious at the same time. If I ever put the page up after
8 o'clock I would get lots of angry e-mails." laughs ensued.
But for all it's popularity, Tynan forgot to ask for any
money, and when TyCorp Big Brother left, so did some 300
loyal viewers. However with more experience in page design
warranted a new look TyCorp. This new style also
introduced an amusing adventure program called TyCam.
Tynan explains.
"Ha ha, TyCam. We basically took a very cheap USB
camera and walked around the town, taking pictures of what
we saw. Everyone seemed to love it, so we did it about
four times. We would put witty captions on the pictures
and people loved it. Unfortunately, the camera we used was
very cheap, and later blew up!"

With TyCam out of the picture, the site still managed to
putt along, focusing on media events more than anything.
"What we managed to do was take elements of TyCam and
introduce them into the news. It resulted in a
more...interactive way of seeing the news on the internet.
We created a sense of 'being there' which really brought
the news alive."
TyCorp went on location to events such as concerts, TV
show finales, and game launch events. Ratings were steady,
but far from target.
"The site was doing good, but not great. We didn't
have much money at the time, so we couldn't really
advertise. It was a word of mouth system. So, we tried to
enhance graphics, and site design. We also teamed up with
a friend to create a 'Neopet' style game, but plans fell
through with lack of programming knowledge."
The site was nearing the end of it's heyday in 2003, four
years after first launching. To re-kindle obsession with
the site, Tynan attempted TyCorp Big Brother 2.
"Looking back on TyCorp Big Brother 2 I can see where
we went wrong. The idea was there -- we were willing to
take it one step further with pictures and such. I had
about five writers approach me, wanting to take up the
challenge. I think I hired two, and they both had very
different opinions. The series was taken in two very
different ways and was very unsuccessful."

There was interest in the series, but not enough to keep
it going. After just two months, the series was axed.
"A sad time for the website -- we never turn our
backs on a project. But there was too much involved and we
couldn't keep pumping resources into a dead river. We
noticed, though, that everyone became interested in using
forums. So, we set up a new forum system."
The new forums was better than the old. It allowed viewers
to sign up, win competitions, and discuss what they
wanted. However, for whatever reason, interest died down,
and at the beginning of 2004, Tynan moved interstate.
"I had to take a job at a fast food store. I had even
less money than I had when I left! So, TyCorp slipped
away."
2006 is here and TyCorp is back, bigger and better than
before.
"We have huge ambitions for the site this year! More
staff, more features and more fun! I hope everyone likes
it."
Being the
second layout for 2006, TyCorp Revolution will have more
of the better element of TyCorp, now with Downloads,
reviews and cutting edge technology.
