Something of a cult thing.  So how was it like as a Teenager or a lunatic
Les Hill fan ?  Here are some stories about stories from the 'Hillfollowers' (it seems)1993.

Special thanks to Steve who gave a great story

"When Les came to the UK, i tried my damn
hardest to get his autograph.
But it was to impossible. It was proven to
be to difficult.  He was Mr popularity!
I knew he would be on BBC1 for the Smash Hits Poll
Winners Party for Best TV Actor 1993.
Would you believe, while i popped out the room, my
Cousin shouts "Hey!  Hes on the other channel
as well!"  The man was everywhere!
Even on the same morning he was on Big Breakfast! ch4,
and on the same day I had two channels to pick from at once!"

I remember seeing Les Hill on that TV programme on
BBC1.  Forgotten what it
was called now, but it was childrens
TV. It was so cold that year, snowing
and freezing.  I was sitting in front of the TV doing
homework as you do, and Les came on.
He came on with his fine dress
sense, and sat on a stool, talking to the presenter.
There was competition.  4 kids, had
to try paint Les Hill on there sheet of paper.
They were given 10 minutes or so.  Anyway, after Les had to pick
a winner from t
he four,  and when the time came to judge the winner,
i couldnt stop laughing. I think he was going to burst
out laughing. He had
a hefty grin on his face anyway.   As you can imagine,
these kiddies drew what looked like monster
looking Les Hills. Unfortunately, there kiddish skills and limited
time on the clock, justified the lack
of  finesse to the paintings.. One girl smiled and she
was the winner in the end.
A rather smiley looking Les agreed her to be the winner.
I could just imagine what he was saying.
'Oh come on, i aint as crappy looking as this am I?'

OK cut a long story short.  This guy was everywhere.
Want to impress my girl, and he
was there.  She thought he was great.  TV, papers, you name it.
Thought he'll be on  Mars bars next.
He was going to be somewhere apparently a
tip from a friend, London somewhere,
I had to figure out how to get my girl
there without her knowing. Thought i would impress.
I was about 18
at the time, and she was 17.  Stupid now when i think about it.
It was chucking it down with rain. Things you do for a girl.
I was at
college worked hard all week.  Anyway, finally got there, and
i had to pretend i was taking her out
somewhere.  She saw him, she jumped said how cute he was
the same ole crap and blurring rubbish.
Oh yeah. She saw him in the end.
When he was
walking in the place and thats it.
In the end,I was ditched because i
wasnt anything like him. All i can say is this site should be burnt.
Thanks Les, you stuffed things up for me big with  time mate.

I thought i would tell a story about how she,  my daughter
thought the world of him.  She was such an admirer of Les.
I didnt know how he was until she pointed him out to me.
She was in the hospital
and Les was on TV.  She was ill at the time
 and sadly she passed away.
I watched with her the story of
Meg, but i have tried to look for Les Hill
on the net before.  Its a good site.
Just thought to say to
Thank you and i am sure, my girl would have
liked the internet and also this site.

When i was in year 10 that was back in 1990 i
knew Les Hill was in Home and Away
and i watched it often, of a night about 630pm i still
remember those days. He went to a school
not far from me and  rumour he was a bit
of a show off.  I suppose you have to
be in acting, and being in that
type of work.
 Then when he left H&A
i didnt hear of him again cause now i know he was
in England
He has been to the other side of the world and back
but i will say that kodak advert he did a few years
ago now was a bit
cheesy...but lets hope for all the fans of his
out there that he will not hit on our TV boxes.

The First time I saw Les Hill.
I have always been an idol of Les ever since I found a poster in a gossip
magazine, seeing him as an actor on Home & Away made me want to find
out more on this brilliant and good looking Actor. Over here in the UK

he made many of the front covers of TV guide and gossip
magazines, reaching it`s peak on his best performance on the Meg story.
It wasn't until October 92, Les left Home & Away from the screens onto a
Pantomime world as Jack and the Beanstalk during Christmas 92
over here in the UK. Great I thought, I could get my chance to see
him in the flesh so to speak.  The first task was to track down where
it`s was going to be shown, all I had to go on was the fact it was going to be held in Southend, looking in the telephone directories for theatres I eventually found one that was showing  Jack and the Beanstalk, but didn't star Les Hill. It couldn't be right so I looked on the map could their be another Southend, well indeed there was Southend-on-sea, this time it was the right one, just had to book a date and a time afternoon or evening.

It was an agonising wait for a few weeks until a few days before Christmas
where I set the date and left to the south of England. The journey by train took 4 hours, another hour to find the theatre. There was a long queue of girls and parents. It was a 40 minute wait to the doors opened, but time soon passed as everyone
was talking about Les. It was an old fashioned theatre.. I booked a seat 10 rows from the front, so I could get a good view, the huge curtains moved slowly up at 2pm, to reveal a stunning set as I haven`t been to shows like this before, I was pleasantly surprised. My first thought as well as the other people watching the show, where was Les Hill!

It turned out he appeared some 20 minutes later, wow there was an almighty screams and crying coming from all directions. he was, a bit smaller in size that I thought compared to the other actors, still had his long hair, this was tied back and I think was
coloured silver, wearing a thin set of garments!. There were I guess 40 rows of seats, being in the 10th row I thought I could
get one of the best views, but the seats were much lower down than the stage so I didn't see him at eye to eye level, but did see him close up
especially when he came to the very front stage.  But that didn't disappoint me, as it was also the acting I came to see, and boy did he do well, there were scenes

for instance where he appeared slightly off stage and didn`t have any lines for a while but continued to act and play the scene, rather than some of the actors who just simply stood there,
I know because for the first half hour I couldn't take my eyes off him!, later got
into the story and watched the other actors. The interlude came after 1 hour to allow one to get refreshments,
give the actors a chance to rest and change the scenes, it was a chance to reflect on
what has happened so far. The second half continued on as good as part one, but I could see time was
approaching the last hour and from what I remember of the story at school, it was going to end soon.

That`s when sweets were thrown out from the cast into the audience, great fun, there were also a couple of ladies going round who picked out around 7 children to meet Les on stage, I knew I couldn't go, but the thought of
meeting Les was good enough for me. All the cast gathered on the final say farewell goodbyes, they did quote a
few lines like were 'going home & away' and others I couldn't remember. With the closing scenes it was time to leave, but I had in my plastic bag a
new white designer shirt with a very nice painting picture on it (at that time Les appeared a lot in photos in Red shirts), also had a Christmas card.

I tried waiting outside backstage for several minutes with a few others, but felt as though Les wasn't going to come out, so back inside I gave it to one of the organisers inside. It was cold and dark outside, a long journey back home, but it was all well worth it and Les as I expected him gavea wonderful performance, one that I
I will never forget.

Patrick  Weaver (The Sun Newspaper)

I met him in a disco on
 Piccadilly, London about
eight years ago when I recall he was living in West
 London and looking for
work over here. He was really charming and
 easy-going; no celebrity airs or
graces. I hope he is doing well.

Sandra (Sussex)

I remember my Brother trying to impress the girls. And he
tried to look like Les Hill with the flicky hairstyle and the
sweet smile.  Hes personally not my type, as i am much older
but i know he will kill me for saying this, but he would
just try to act like him and move around like he was Blake.
It was a laugh at first, when he tried to be  Take That
Robbie Williams and ended up with
Les.  At the time i said
'who do you think you are?' and he would just deny any
accusations of him trying to be a look-a-likey.
In one picture taken out of a magazine, Les wore a
blue shirt.  Unbuttoned, and jeans or something.
whipping off his trainers and baggy Nike tracksuit bottoms
he thought he would try a different look. And i guess he modelled on
Les. Well, more like Blake.  And it was just so bizarre to see him
like that.  In the end, he was growing out of it,
he was a cute looking teenager, i may say so
myself (forgive me Brother)and he was smart.
He did look a bit like him, but when Les disappeared out of the
scenes, he soon gave it up bless him.
He moved on.
