Through the media, it was very obvious Les Hill wanted to
shake off the ghost of Blake Dean

But successful script character made other believe the razor cutting storylines.
When Les first arrived in 1991, no doubt he was a scene stealer. here is the
lowdown on Blakes Deans story.

Karen (Belinda Jarrett) in thier first episode

Blake  Dean first appeared in Home and Away in 1991 when
he arrived in Summer Bay with this Sister Karen. The pair
skulked around mysteriously for a few episodes while everybody
tried to work out who on earth they were. It soon turned out
that their Mum was a criminal who had been in prison with Ailsa
when she was serving time for murdering her abusive Dad.
Even so, it was a bit of a shock for Ailsa when the two
strangers turned up out of the blue. Still, Ailsa is a woman
of honour and decided to keep her promise to her old jail
buddy, even if it meant falling out

with her Husband Alf.  Alf was still enjoying a bit of peace
and quiet after mad Emma had left for the

Gold Coast and Roo had jetted off to New York, but
soon got used to having the Dean kids around.

Blake seemed quite moody when he first arrived, because
he blamed himself for his

Mums death.  He'd been a bit of a tearaway and he felt
that the stress he'd caused his Mother had

contributed to her illness.  One person that he managed to
get on with was Haydn, probably because he was
another new boy in town who also didn't have a mother around.

Blake hides in Church, feeling the guilt of his Mothers death
Young Sophie Simpson, who arrived to Summer Bay

with her abusive Father (Terry Donavan) was

a bit of a bad girl  back then, impressed Blake with her

skills as a con-artist and also became a close Friend.

It wasn't long before the two began to become more

than just Friends and it seemed life was starting for Blake.

That was until the auditions for the school play, when

both Haydn and Sophie got the part  They spent a considerable

amount of valuable time  together rehearsing

there characters  and eventually ended up

 romantically together.

Blake felt totally betrayed by whom he thought were his Friends.

When Michael married Pippa, Haydn moved into the

Flecthers home with Sophie and the pressure of there

relationship became suffocating.   With living in the

same house, it finally sacrificed there close companionship.

After some time, the three became Friends once

again and Blake even helped Haydn overcome his fear of

water when he was entered in the school swimming competiti

on.

The fatal accident put Karen behind bars

Blakes next set of worries began when Karen became aquatinted

with local troublemaker Revhead.

He was a major charmer and soon persuaded Karen to spend

the night with him and embark dangerously

in a crime spree around Summer Bay.  They burgled Donald

Fishers home  and committed robbery at Alfs store. Karen

went completely off the rails and went on a joyride and

killed David Pearce whom Sophie was very much in love with.

It resulted to Karen (Blakes sister) to be put behind bars including Revhead.

Blake felt the guilt.  He had promised his Mother he would

take care of Sister Karen but felt he had failed her

once again.
Drug dealer Josh warns Blake to stay away from Rachel
Romance appeared again, this time a red haired girl

called Rachel whom he met at a party.  Her Brother

Josh was a drug dealer who ended up in court after

Blake discovered his attitude and decided to put

a stop to it. Josh was furious, especially when

he discovered that Blake was fond of Rachel romantically.

This aggravated Josh, his lesson to Blake hungry

for his Sister paid off while he planned a trip out

into the bush in the middle of nowhere, with Adam a

traveller stopping in Summer Bay and held them both

at gunpoint for several cliff hanging episodes. Eventually

Josh was locked up for good.

Blake and Rachel where still an item until Blakes

heavy handed approach to get her into bed.

Blake ended up without it.  Boastful he couldn't resist

to gain the interest of others when he lied about how

they did both ending up sleeping together in the

caravan park.  This led poor Rachel leaving Summer Bay totally.

Blake wanted more than a quick kiss

His next set of problems came with the arrival

of the new temporary Headmistress Lois Crawford.

Her impression of Blake wasn't good .  She tried

to aim at Blake as she felt he was a bad influence

on top grade Haydn who's grades had dropped to standards.

She tried her hardest to illuminate Blake and Haydns

time spending after School hours.  This suggestion

caused a huge rift between The Hogans and the Fletchers.

Fortunately she didn't stay to long and left Summer Bay High.

It was discovered that she was up to no good and normal

 neighbourly relationships were resumed.  Haydns

relationship with his Father ended soar so eventually

 he too left Summer Bay.

Blake was now left with no  Friend to confide in.  That

was until Simon arrived on the scene.  Simon also

moved in with Alf and Ailsa after his Dad disappeared.

From then onwards the pair became inseparable.

Making the best of times together before her tragic end
In that time a new comer, a girl was about to

take over and played a great part in  Blake Deans life and

was going to change it for a long time. Meg Bowman move

d into Donald Fishers old house with her Mother Julia.

After chasing and following he was smitten by the new

girl, who infact was carrying a terrible secret.  Before long

she fell deeply for Blake.    She was terminally ill with

Leukaemia.  And only had a few months to live.

Megs mother,  was very protective of her daughter

and detested her ill daughter taking a shine to Blake.

She did her best to stop the relationship but in the

end she realised it was beyond her control.  The pair

fell hopelessly in love and Blake was devastated

when he sadly discovered the truth about Meg.

After much soul searching he realised that this didn't

change his feelings for her and they spent a couple

months together before Meg was rushed into hospital.

The doctors announced that she only had a few days to live.

Blake finds out the truth and realises Meg is dying

Home and Aways most tear inducing scenes began

Blakes character changed dramatically.

the moody youngster was beginning to fade, and the

maturing young man began to realise that

there was a place in this life for love.   Helping his

ill girlfriend to live her dreams was something Meg

could never enough thank him.  Even in a short space

of time before Megs life was taken away,  they spend

endless time together experiencing ventures in just short time.

Meg who requested her last breathing hours on the beach

finally arrived.   Blake held her in his arms talking softly

while she eventually gave her last breath away with

her last words left to  Blake and not her Mother

who also felt the pain. She died in Blakes arms.

Blake kept Megs promise by a letter she had left him.

 To continue life without her.

Simon feels helpless but does his most to comfort him

Blake felt it  was the end of his world.   Still with

the smell of her perfume in his clothing, just after a

few hours of her death. He spoke to Sophie (heavily pregnant)

who consoled him by telling him about how she coped since

David's death.  Gradually he slowly began to pick

up the broken pieces.  However events took a

bizarre twist, while Blake started his exam revision

with Finlay.  The pair (much to everyones surprise)

ended up kissing each other, which was nothing

more than a spur of the moment kiss.  Blake regretted it

afterwards.  But the ever depressing complaining

Finlay was for once in her life,  over the moon.

In many ways he tried to let her know, that nothing

more  was going to produce or develop from a kiss.

Many attempts he took  to arrange other dates

and accident running -ins with other girls (like Selina the easy girl in town)

and also  hanging around a girl called Andrea who

Adam fixed him up with but did Finally get the message?

A stranger in town. Blakes new start away from Summer Bay

What else could happen to Blake? Not
long after a stranger turns up at the Diner.

Not known to anyone, this person called Les,
walked into Blakes life claiming to be his Father,
who he hasn't seen since he was a baby.  Blakes
life is turned upside down.  Not only this but  also he

was shocked to discover that somewhere  he had a half Sister.
After searching, he eventually found her
working in a downtown cafe in the City.
Her relationship with her Father was poor.
  So Blake made attempts to

make her  reconcile with her Father. Roxanne known
for her keen artisitc flair for Sculpturing  ended up in  Summer Bay and  became

a Tutor at Summer Bay High.

Temporarily he left  Summer Bay so to speak
when Blakes decides to make his decision to

leave, Alf wasn't as supportive to Blake and his
long lost Father who tries to lure his son and

make up the lost years.  Painfully this
ended with soar intentions between Alf and Blake.

He took liberty to make his moves with his Father
above his business he owned in the City.

Eventually Blakes character fizzed out and
for his relationship with Finaly also to was the

start of history when he decides to send her
bad news about himself seeing another girl.

Eventually Blake left Summer Bay, leaving
his half Sister behind (Roxanne) to move with his Father.

Blake ever since has never stepped back to Summer Bay
