Perhaps the most controversial Pay Per View in TUFF's history, Sizzlefest 2000 has also become one of its finest. Fans saw for the very first time Rick Russo, the owner of TUFFinc as he began the show in a profanity-laced tyraid against former friend and colleague, Joe Thompson. Russo reluctantly delivered TUFF fans, staff and superstars a slice of real life that they would not soon forget. As if it weren't enough, Russo returned later in the PPV to explain why not only Joe Thompson wasn't in attendance, but also why Hot Shot Tony Furia, at the time the Intercontinental Champion, also was nowhere to be seen.
The event itself had one of the longest, and strongest cards of all time. With two TUFF superstars now fired, wrestlers like the Eric Lee and Bubba Ray Rogers knew it was their time to take themselves and the company to the next level. TUFF had not lost two of its superstars that night, it had simply just trimmed the fat around the company, leaving behind two mistakes, as TUFF went on to glory.
