Academic Liason
Coach Brown enters his second year with TSU�s team and first
as a full time coach and pass-game coordinator. Brown is also the
academic liason for the team. He
comes from Delaware State University where he was the offensive coordinator for
three years. Brown played wide receiver
at Alabama State University. He earned
All-SWAC honors and was the 2nd All-Time Recevier at Alabama
State. Brown was drafted by the Houston
Oliers and played for the team from 1992-1995.
Brown is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi.
Coach Brown is married to Tanisha Brown and they have two
children: Mariah and Rayven.
Jake Cabell
Defensive Coordinator
Coach Cabell takes the challenge of defensive coordinator
during his first year at Texas Southern University. He has over 20 years experience in coaching under his belt. Before coming to TSU, Cabell was assistant
coach at Tennessee State for four years.
He also was an assistant coach at Western Illinois for two years which
is a I-AA school in the Gateway Conference.
Coach Cabell played defensive back at the University of
Nebraska where he also graduated in 1977.
He is married to Allison Cabell and they have four children: Farra,
Jacques, Jade, and Cagg.
J.W. Harper
Defensive Line
J.W. Harper is the veteran on the Texas Southern Coaching
Staff and is in his eleventh season at the University. He joined the football
staff in 1991 during the Walter Highsmith Era. He coached the defensive line
his first two years before working with the linebackers during the 1993
campaign. When Head Coach Bill Thomas took over the squad in 1994, Harper moved
back to the defensive line and produced All-SWAC selection Alfred Bryant. His
defensive resume is topped with a stellar trio of linemen that he coached in
the 1992 season. Under Harper�s direction, Michael Strahan (All-American
&SBN Black College Football Defensive Player of the Year), Eddie Smith
(First Team All-SWAC) and Kevin Johnson (Second Team All-SWAC) were able to move
to the NFL.
The Shelbyville, Tennessee native is a 1973 graduate of
Middle Tennessee State. Harper was the
first African-American to wear a Blue Raider uniform. He began his collegiate
career as a tight end and ended it as a defensive end and lettered in football
and basketball at Middle Tennessee State. During his years in college, Harper
was named Defensive Player of the Week and earned 2nd Team All-OVC
in football. In 1973, he went to the Washington Red Skins as a free agent. He went on to earn a Master�s Degree from
Tennessee State.
Coach Harper has two children, Jarrett and Harvey.

Quarterbacks
Harper enters his fourth season as a coach in the Tiger�s
program and first as pass game coordinator.
Coach Harper began his coaching career in 1998 as a student assistant
coach with the wide receivers. In 2000,
he became the full time wide receivers coach. 2000. Prior to his coaching stint, Harper was the TSU quarterback from
1995 to 1997. As a senior, Harper led
the squad in passing and was named team captain. He was also a three-year letter-winner in baseball. In 1999, Harper received his bachelor�s
degree from TSU in mathematics. He is a
member of Kappa Alpha Psi and member of Brentwood Baptist Church.
Prince
Pearson
Offensive Line
Prince Pearson enters his second season as offensive line
coach. Pearson came to TSU from
Hallandale High School in Hallandale, FL, where he served as head football
coach of the varsity squad for two seasons.
At Hallandale, Pearson�s team went to the State of Florida High School
Playoffs for the first time in 16 years and was nominated as the Coach of the
Year. In 1998, he led his team (6-4) to
its first winning season in five years and was selected to coach in two
all-star games. Pearson spent one
season at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, as the defensive line
coach and was also in charge of scouting reports and breaking down film. In 1995 and 96, he was the assistant head
coach at Boyd Anderson High School, where he coached the offensive line. He began his coaching career as the
offensive coordinator at Nova High School in Florida.
Pearson is a 1993 graduate of the University of
Minnesota. As an offensive lineman for
the Golden Gophers, he was a three-year letterman and was an All-Big Ten
nominee. Pearson is married to the
former Evangeline Suarez.
Terry Sims
Defensive
Backs/Recruiting And Coordinator
Coach Sims enters his second season coaching at Texas
Southern University. He has coached for several years prior to working with the
Tigers. Before coming to T.S.U., Coach
Sims has worked with the running backs at Austin Peay State University. He coached the linebackers at Knoxville
College; and was a graduate assistant coached the defensive backs at the
University of Louisville.
Sims played defensive back at Knoxville College and was Team
Captain. In 1994, he graduated with a
bachelor�s degree in psychology. In
1997 he received a master�s degree in education. Coach Sims is married to Joyce Sims and they have one daughter,
Sierra. He is also a member of Omega
Psi Phi.
