Born in Soest, Germany during the Second World War, Trudy's
family survived the Allied bombings and
Hitler's craziness. After the war, she grew up in this historic and picturesque
little town from the Middle Ages, went
to primary and high school there. She wanted to follow a profession as a business correspondent which was in demand
at that time in Germany and for that
reason started working in a Canadian Superstore for a couple of years to
improve her English and French knowledge. Through her work there, she met her future husband.
After two years she returned to college and after further studies
received her diploma in 1960.
Trudy has always been interested in art and anything to do
with the arts. Having a grandfather who was himself an artist, she was keenly
interested in drawing and painting and tried different methods of art by
herself.
After immigrating to Canada in 1961 and meeting again with her friend she
had met in Germany, they were married in 1962, and started a family which they were busy
raising in Gatineau, Quebec.
She always loved art and probably inherited her penchant for exploring nature and art from her
grandfather.. However, being busy with a full-time job and raising their three
children, it left little time to pursue this interest. Trudy is also an avid
sewer and has tried her hand at interior decorating , and therefore did not
really have a lot of time left to concentrate on her other hobby "painting".
After retiring from the Federal Public Service, she finally
found the time needed for her second passion: capturing images of nature on
canvas. Trudy has travelled extensively
both in Europe and the Americas and some of her artwork reflects these images
she captured, first on camera, then on canvas.
At first, she started out painting for herself and her home, but after a
while she extended her art to other menus, such as the Owaa gallery where she
takes part in the bi-montly art exhibitions at the Goulbourn Recreation Centre.
Trudy loves the atmosphere the creation of art gives
her. It creates a feeling of total
relaxation and concentration in the subject of the moment, be it impressions
from her travel or scenes of nature at home. Through courses, and self-study she has created paintings that express realism and promote her
artistic expression. Painting creates an inner fulfillment and calms her. When
she paints, nothing else interferes with her work. You will see from some of
the paintings exhibited here how she creates the atmosphere of the subjects and lets her imagination take over.
