FOOD DRIVE
It’s time for the annual “We Care – I Can” food
drive. Trailridge’s collection will run
from Monday, November 12, until Monday, November 19. Our goal is 4000
cans. The food will be donated to the
Johnson County Christmas Bureau. The
Christmas Bureau operates a holiday store for low-income families to “shop” for
presents, clothing, and food for their families. We are asking students to bring nonperishable
food items to their seventh hour. The seventh hour that collects the most food
(based on the number of students in the class) and the student in the school
who donates the most will go on a field trip the last week of November to work
at the Christmas Bureau or City Union Mission and go out to lunch. Students who bring in ten or more items will
earn one cookie coupon to be redeemed in the cafeteria.
Suggested food items:
Canned goods: fruits,
vegetables, juice, soup, meat (tuna, Spam, etc.)
Packaged foods: pasta dinners,
noodles/rice, pasta, dry beans, cereal, powdered milk, potato flakes
Staples: flour, sugar,
oil, peanut butter, pancake mixes, biscuit mixes
Desserts: Jell-O, pudding,
cake mixes
Please note:
Small packages such as
Top Ramen noodles and Kool Aid will not be counted in the class’s total this
year. Please do not donate items in
glass bottles or jars.
The
Christmas Bureau is also seeking the following donations: children’s used
coats, toys, footballs, board games, infant toys, small appliances, hair
dryers, electric shavers, handheld electronic games, coffee makers, radios,
crockpots, men’s gifts, toothpaste/brushes, shampoo, deodorant, paper products,
extra large sweatshirts, and children’s socks and underwear. These may be brought to room 17 before
November 27.

Clark, Nicole Fuchs, Alexis Gick, Jake
Greer, Rosemary Harris, Amy Hein, Courtney Margrave, Mary Mwangi,

The President's Student
Service Challenge is a White House initiative, which recognizes young Americans
with awards and scholarships for outstanding community service, while
encouraging more young people to serve.
Middle school students
who contribute at least 50 hours of service to the community are eligible for
the Silver Award.
The President's Student
Service Challenge is intended to recognize, reward, and encourage activities
that have a significant impact in meeting the needs of local communities. Types
of service could include: service
with community or religious organizations, service through school or
community-based service learning projects, and individual efforts to help others
and improve the local community. KATS
work, of course, counts too!
Please get a form from
Mrs. Ramsey to keep track of your hours worked outside of school. Remember your outside forms need to be signed
by the person in charge of your activity.
You receive one signature for each hour worked.
EARNING SIGNATURES
It is important to sign up for KATS
activities. If you decide to volunteer
for an activity without letting one of the sponsors know, you can not earn
signatures for the event. Please
remember that you need to be in Mrs. Ramsey’s room on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday,
or Friday at 8:05 AM in order to get a full signature on your card. On Tuesdays please be in Ms. Colburn’s room
by 3:55 PM and Thursdays in Mrs. Ramsey’s room by 3:55 PM. Carry your card in your hand at all times
when you are working before and after school.
If you would like to work for KATS during study hall, you must first
read for twenty minutes and then you may earn a half signature. Be sure to pick up a form from Mrs. Ramsey,
if you volunteer in an activity that is not sponsored by KATS. You may receive one signature per full hour
you work. Any adult at the activity may
sign your sheet.
There will be a meeting for all KATS
Stars the second Tuesday of each month from 8:05 to 8:30 AM in Room 113. During this time, Stars will vote on KATS
activities, give their input and ideas, and plan the general meetings. You’ve earned the right to be a
decision-maker and leader in our club.
Please come to these meetings. Our next meeting is December 11.
