Have You Grabbed a
Buddy Lately?
In order to increase interest in KATS and to have fun, we are starting a Grab a Buddy program. KATS members who go to the MPR and ask another student to volunteer before school will get 2 signatures that morning. The KATS member and the new worker will both get a cookie coupon from Mrs. Ramsey.

Volunteers are needed on Friday, April 18, at
Global Youth Services Day Field Trip
Across the
nation, students will be participating in volunteering April 25-27. National Youth Service Day is the largest
service event in the world, engaging millions of young Americans and focusing
national attention on the amazing leadership of young people. KATS will
participate in this event by volunteering at Operation Iraqi Children on Friday, April 25.
All KATS
Stars will have the opportunity to prepare school supply kits for shipment to
Annoying Song
Fundraiser
On Monday, April 28 - Friday, May 2, KATS will sponsor an Annoying Song Fundraiser. Songs will be played over and over until we raise $1000. Students can stop the annoying song by contributing money. The money will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for research to discover a cure for this inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. KATS members are needed to walk around the cafeteria to collect the money.
Pop Tops for Ronald
McDonald House
The last day to donate pop tabs is Friday, May 2. The aluminum is sold for recycling and the money goes to Ronald McDonald House, a "home away from home" for families of children with serious illnesses who are undergoing treatment at local hospitals. When your box is full bring it to Room 17 and get another box. There is also container in the MPR for pop tabs.
National Service
Challenge
The President's Student Service
Challenge is a White House initiative which recognizes young Americans with
awards and scholarships for outstanding community service. Middle school students who contribute at
least 50 hours of service to the community by Thursday, May 1 are eligible for
the Silver Award. Students who have
volunteered 75 hours will receive the Bronze Award, and volunteers with 100
hours or more will be given the Gold Award.

Cystic Fibrosis Walk
All
students and their families are encouraged to walk in the Heart of America
Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk on Saturday,
May 3. We will meet at
Reward Party
On Monday, May 5 at 9:10 a.m. during the second half of 1st hour, we will have the last reward party of the year. You must have four or more signatures since February 1 to attend. Passes were given out at today's meeting. Please see Ms. Key if you qualify and did not receive one.

On Thursday, May 22 from 3:45 - 5:30 PM,
KATS Stars will go to PowerPlay in
Jump Rope for Heart
Thanks to all the students who helped with our Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart fund raiser for American Heart Association. The students collected pledges for their participation of 90 minutes either jumping rope or playing basketball. The group of students collected a total of $538 for the fight against heart disease. Our top collections came from Brooke Evans, Mary Mwangi and Isabel Miller.
