Actor Profile: Jon Kruithof

Birth name: Jonathan Christopher Kruithof
A.K.A: Jon Martyr

Jon has always been a natural actor, though his thespian skills take a back seat to his writing and his love for music. Throughout the late-1980s and well into the 90s Jon played in a number of punk bands. Jon also did live poetry readings and voice-over jobs. He is also an accomplished photography artist. In 1993 he and friend, Jason Stewart formed the band, Anxiety. For three years Jon not only sang and played bass, he also wrote many complex songs which became favorites to fans. It was his lively stage show which had impressed his fellow bandmate whom just happened to have a passion for film making. Naturally, Stewart concidered Kruithof for the title role in his art film, Concrete Robe. Though the role was a non-speaking one, Jons screen presence was impressive enough for Stewart to cast him in the long-awaited sequel to The Trespassers. Jon played the part of the sympathetic Doctor Argyle. Jons dramatic acting skills were second to none. Unfortunatly, Splitting Images didnt live up to its predecessor. It was Jons next role that would cement his video-movie career. For his role as the conniving Dexter in The Short Story, Jon would showcase his comedic talents. With critical praise under his belt, Jon looked to have a bright future in the indie-movie industry. Unfortunatly, all would be put on hold after the actor moved to Texas, USA. This didnt keep Jon from keeping busy with writing and publishing his own magazine, Diet Society. He also returned to music with a new band, The Men of 1864. Though his distance from his comrads kept him from starring in any new movies, his acting didnt entirely die out. In 1997, while still living in Texas, Jon leant his voice to a couple of scenes in the third chapter in the Trespassers series. In 2000 Jon returned to Canada. When Jason Stewart decided to shoot additional scenes for the Special Edition of the first Trespassers film, he asked Jon if he would shoot a small scene; this time reprising his Dr. Argyle role, only a younger version. Jon not only played the role brilliantly, he also shot another scene in disguise as another character, Commander Atwood. The scenes added depth and feeling to the film and created the necessary link to the second chapter.
