From a young age his dream was to make movies. He also loved to act and write. While the acting roles would have to wait until 1989 with his debut short film, The Street Walker; Jasons writing career would have earlier success. Jasons on-air began in 1985 when he hosted a number of soap-box derby-like car races. The Cub-Car Championships lasted until 1989 when Jason decided to get into film work. In 1990 he made his first feature, Poisoned Evil. In the film Stewart played the role of a normal young man whom accidentally drinks a poisonous liquid which slowly drives him to insanity. The film, despite its flaws, developed a small cult following. In 1991 Jason would play his most famous role in The Trespassers. He portrayed Tasker; a young felon intent on stealing a secret formula from the man whom he betrayed. The film overtook any previous work Stewart had ever done. Following The Trespassers, Stewart tried unsuccessfully to shoot a movie based on his book, White Lands. Jason also appeared in a series of skits featuring his nerdy George Winkleberry character. A successful live show also followed. After moving back to his birthplace, Stewart took an extended break from film making to pursue a music career which included recording and live performances. Jason also began publishing his own magazine, XYZed. During and after his absence film work Stewart also did a number audio voice work. In 1994 Jason returned to film work directing(but not starring in) the art film, Concrete Robe. Also in 94 Jason would reprise his Trespassers role in the sequel, Splitting Images. In that same year Jason would marry Kelly MacInnes, a budding actress. In 1995 the actor/director would make his most critically acclaimed movie to date, The Short Story; starring his wife. In the film Jason acted in a smaller role as a sympathetic husband. In 1996 Stewart decided to resurrect his Winkleberry role in the unsuccessful, World According to Winkleberry. Then came what should have been his crowning achievement. The third and final chapter in the Trespassers series was to have been the Gone With the Wind of Shot-on-video; instead the film ended up being more like Heavens Gate. The daily problems which included in-fighting with all involved, shooting delays, constant rescripting, financial problems, and most evident; two co-producers with different ideas on the films direction. After the film was finally complete, Stewart put any film work on the shelf and concentrated on his publishing empire. In 2000 Jason made the decision to revamp the original Trespassers and shoot some new footage. It was probably the most challenging and rewarding moment of his career. Its not every day that someone gets to revisit a certain time in their life! What does the future hold? Jason is already busy at work on actor/film maker, Justin Chatwins tentatively titled, Zine Nation, and he is also in the beginning stages of a yet untitled suspense film which he is slated to produce and direct. He is also busy preparing many of his films for video release. Contact Info: [email protected] |
