| Here's an interview with Kevin, vokill terrorist with chunk spitting sickos Screaming Afterbirth! Baz - Hello there! Don't bother taking your shoes off before coming in, the place is a shithole anyway! Now, here of course is the tattered old whore of a first interview question. When did you and your fellow nuts give sloppy birth to the unruly charge named Screaming Afterbirth, and what other bands and artistes influenced you? Kevin - We started in 1999. It was just a side project band to kill some time with, but that changed and now S.A. is a #1 priority. So much of a priority that we just spent the last 2 weekends sound proofing our new practise spot because Baz - Please tell us the current Screaming Afterbirth line-up, and who expels each aural stench with what instrument? Kevin - I sing and give moral support. Jon is our bassist (and former Splattered Cadaver drummer, although that was years ago now and I am sure he is sick of being reminded of that). Jesse is the mad man behind the drums, former singer of Foetopsy (RIP) and just one hell of a great guy. There is our alcoholic unemployed guitarist Dan. I think that says enough about him. And finally there is Jim. He is the new guy (been saying that for over a year now) and the man who is possessed by gore and the music it creates. Baz - Your debut squirt, Puke Pile, showcased some inhuman vokills talents, obese riffage and feverish drumming, making for one big splattery bulk. However, your subsequent release, to be featured on a split with Mincing Fury And Guttural Clamour Of Queer Decay, offers a more stripped down sound, with longer songs and a slightly different vokill attack. Are you pleased with the progress you have made? Kevin - Yeah, that is what we wanted. The CD "Puke Pile" is our demo. We really never released anything before that besides a basement rehearsal tape and live performances that we recorded off the board. The Puke Pile CD got a really killer sound because we spent about $3,000 out of pocket for that recording and the split CD we recorded at a friends home studio for $150. It is basically what our demo should have sounded like. But our next full length CD will be recorded at a place much like the Puke Pile CD, so you can expect a killer clear sound (notice I didn't say "clean"). People really seem to like the dirty sound of the split CD. Baz - What equipment do you use? Kevin - I sing, so I have really no idea. I still sing out of my old bass equipment, it makes for a good sound. Our bassist plays out of a guitar head for that ripping distorted bass sound. Both of our guitarist just upgraded their guitar equipment for the next recorded, but I never looked at the names of the products that they use. All name brand shit though. Baz - On Puke Pile, I particularly enjoy the song Stabbing Faces And Kicking Guts. It reminds me of those lovable rogues Vomit Snack a bit. What inspired the writing and inclusion of a song so stylistically different from the rest? Kevin - When we started playing there was no grind core scene in Milwaukee. All the metal heads where playing the Hard Core cross over Emo shit, but the punk scene was still ripe. So we had our death metal set lit and we had our Oi/Punk set list. We did covers from the Circle Jerks to the 4-skins to Impetigo. For one reason or other we decided to put the original song Stabbing Faces... on the CD. Most people hate it, but that was our attitude at the time and we didn't give a shit and still don't. Baz - Do you play many gigs? If so, what kind of messy behaviour and slampit injuries can be expected during the live Screaming Afterbirth experience? Kevin - We try to play out as much as possible. We usually play at least once a month, usually twice. We have basically 2 modes of operation. The "we gotta not play any shows because we have to record soon," and the "Lets fucking PARTY!" mode. Right now where in the first, less exciting mode. Baz - Do you and/or your bandmates enjoy any form of recreational drugs? Kevin - We are all drunks. Beer, beer and more beer! Some of us smoke reefer and some of us don't. We are not a "drug orientated" band so there is no prerequisite of drug use before you play in S.A. Shit, our guitarist Jim is in the U.S. Air Force so he stays far away from drugs, but he has a weakness for hermaphrodites. I guess you can call that a drug though.
