| Boasting a much clearer production job, slightly more elasticated song structures and more innovative imagery than previous outing La Realidad Es Sangrienta, this sophomore splatter platter delivers some rather meritorious Goregrind. First cut, Pus Excretor, begins with a film sample then a surprisingly melodic bass intro underpinned by some lazy beats. It's not long afore the grinding begins, though, as meaty guitars, solid blasts and maniacal vokills add hefty layers of power to the bass figure. Song layouts like these are used to good effect for one or two songs during the album. Continuing in the spirit of their debut release, guitar and bass riffs are kept uncomplicated, catchy and crushing. Blast beats rattle along at a satisfying pace, dropping to more mid pace infectious battery as the song rhythms alternate. The sanguine icing on the gorecake is of course the feverish vokill attack of frontloon Jhony, whose raging ranges from moist guttural exhalations and effects enhanced throat howls to inhuman parched rasps. From amongst the morass of hideous entrails, one or two elements of, and influences from other bands can be unravelled. There's a strong Dead Infection vibe, both in the playing and the vokills, not to mention gorelords Carcass, pornkings Gut and crushfucks Mortician, plus a few flecks of veterans Napalm Death, bombastic grinders Blood and those decomposing lads of Inhume. The bass intros leading into blistering grind is slightly reminiscent of old skool Swedish trio Exulceration. The vokills are at times on a similar level to Sperman jesters Purulent Spermcanal's wet throat gurgles, sometimes a little bit like Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition, thought without as much use of effects. Other times the vokills spit bile of a sound that is all their own. There's several staple songs on this release, such as F.H.I with its cyclic staccatto riffing, pummelling blasts, enraged sustained vokill outbursts and slight crust tones. The Chainsaw is another good one, coupling catchy stop/start six stringery with a wall of fast grinding. Classick gore anthem Anal Carnage wraps up the album excellently, imprinting some encrusted grooves and blasts coated in one of the most unbridiled displays of diverse vokill nastiness on the album. As with their previous outing, the band include cover songs of their heros, this time playing versions of Napalm Death and Necrony. The production is of high quality, rendering every instrument plentiful in its audibility. This makes the simplistic song patterns and chunky style more effective and bludgeoning, at the same time allowing subtleties in the bass solos to stand out from the simmering visceral broth. On the other hand, the extra polish in the productions could be seen as damaging to some of the potential power and punch. To sum up then, a good haul of nasty Goregrind, with consistent and balanced servings of blast and groove in well mapped out songs that flow excellently. A sturdy rhythm sections underpins robust riffage, finished off by inhuman and unhinged vokill menace. However, the production doesn't sit quite right with me at various points during the album, seeing as it lacks the dirtiness and fuzzy sleaze of their debut release. Having said that, if this album'd been produced in the same way as their first disc, the band may have ran the risk of losing some of the effective hooks and riffs amongst their compositions. But instead of leaving the charms and appeal of songs to rot buried under a lo-fi sound, they chose to breathe life into them with a more palatable, clear sound, resulting in a good and rounded album of infectious Goregrind. This is a sick bile spitting bulk wrapped in harshly contrasting depraved imagery, but I personally would've liked the songs to sound as dirty as the cover. 3 and 1/2 out of 5 Click here for the tracklisting and contact details |
