Many of them must salivate sanguine saliva in anticipation of slapping the underground about with a tangle of unrecognisable internal organs, unrelenting blastbeats, fast as fuck riffs and indecipherable pathological/gore scenario/serial murder lyrics sung by utterly inhuman vokills. Oxidised Razor are certainly no exception, as can be gathered from this, their unsubtle debut of horrid Goregrind. The band congealed in 1998, before releasing a limited as fuck 14 track rehearsal demo tape to give round to labels, followed up by the studio splatter sessions that created the here reviewed album.

The messy autopsy begins with Pedro Alonso Lopez, opening with a short film sample before rumbling forth with downtuned riffage, urgent blasts and low grunts, the overall sound being very muffled and dampened by quite poor production, making one wonder if this lo-fi noise is how Oxidised Razor actually sound. Mere seconds later, they explode into their real sound, made from scything riffs, cyclic and infectious blasts and loud bass vibrations. The lessons in gore and pathology are given by some very gruff vokill exhalations. Such nastiness forms a basis for the other tracks, though other elements appear frequently throughout, such as more midpaced gorechug and unexpected stops and starts. Riffage resulting from Aaron's low tune string abuse follows simple and embryonic patterns, varying from accelerated limb loppers to robust crushing grooves. Skullcrush provided by Luis does well to beef up the cadaveric compositions, his battery switching seamlessly from mental blasting to catchy rhythms. Basslines given by Luisa are heavy and pulsating, adding much to the overall power and bludgeon of the songs. In a male orientated genres, this braided lass helps destroy the misconception that all the musicians who play in it are male, proving alonside Ana of
Haemorrhage, Nina of Munt Victim, Gorewhorejuice Faerie of Anal Gorecum Pissflap Slap and Disrupt backing screamer Alyssa Murry that remales have as much right as males to grind the heads of the underground to a bloody pulp. Crazed frontman Jhony completes the volatile mass of grinding with his excellent set of pipes, his vokills ranging from the aforementioned gutturals to higher pitched throat rips and angry roars.

Oxidised Razor have adequate originality, though borrow a few parts of their favourite bands to form a diverse mass of guts. A fair few riffs and some drumming is reminiscent of early works of gorefathers Carcass, Dead Infection and Gut, not to mention the odd rumble here and there sounding similar to Finnish skullcrusher Decay and fellow Mexican sadotrio Rottenness. The great vokills spit nastiness of various kinds, some a bit like those of Dead Infection, on occassion reaching something similar to Don Decker of Anal Blast's high end howl. There are also a few Regurgitate style gurgles here and there.

The album has a good few standout tracks, one of my favourites being Shotting Mucous From Intestinal Haemorrhage. Highly infectious drumming beats into your skull, while deep bass and buzzsaw riffage sprays guts everywhere, all the while narrated by Jhony's sick grunts. Serial Murders is another good one, with its dynamic opening of just rhythm section and vokills, which quickly becomes a wall of enraged vokills and furious grinding. The mayhem lets up long enough to allow for an Impetigo tainted solo. Two special tracks of interest are the cover versions of
Gut and Mortician, these being excellent interpretations, a bit dirtier sounding than the originals! There's a hidden track that sounds like it could be a cover of Carcass's Genital Grinder, but I can't be sure.

The production suits the songs extremely well. It's not at all perfect and polished, thus giving splendid ragged edges to the bulky sound. The slightly fuzzy nature of the production doesn't remove audibility from any of the instruments, seeing as each one of them can clearly be heard spewing their own path of entrails, without getting in the way of one another.

On the whole, a very enjoyable album by a band who are as sharp as a bloodstained scalpel. Good songwriting skills, showing an ability to make fairly simple ideas effective and memorable, as well as some quite imaginative approaches to structuring songs. Solid, energetic drumming diseased with writhing guitar and crushing bass riffs and poisined by hideous vokills makes for a rather colourful cadaver. The highly appropriate bandname sums them up well, seeing as it's a nod to Carcass just like those heard in their sonfs, and it's dirty and dangerous just like their music. Fast, nasty and catchy with horrific imagery. This will be an instant hit with most, if not all Goregrind fans.
