A mind melting noise split, sent to me by Embryo of Kinetic Sleaze Productions, featuring two obscure and mysterious acts. One side is a monochrome stream of unpleasant Clown Puke, while the other is full of sluggish Troll Booger buffoonery.

CLOWN PUKE -

This tape contains the only Clown Puke material I'm familiar with and other than a split release with
Liquid Laugh Generator, I am unsure of what other stuff main puker Mike has available

Mike's submission comprises a single track, entitled Hey! You Got Puke In My Hair You Stupid Clown, which opens with loud static ridden buzzing. Said sound is the basis for the entire track, shifting in pitch and sound quality. The noise could be likened to a chainsaw or a lawnmower, their sound being infrequently manipulated in a limited number of ways. Once the track has started to gnaw into one's brain, stagnant monotony sets in shortly afterwards.

A solitary track doesn't provide enough scope to select what stands out. The few highlights of the track itself are the minimal changes in pitch, occasional wavers in volume and some increases in speed.

It's difficult to comment on the production, because any given modification to it would do little to enhance the sound, atmospherics or overal vibe.

Clown Puke is exiguous in its experimentation, providing little in the ways of energy or spirit with the work featured here. Comments on songwriting skills do not appy, seeing as the track is devoid of them. The material doesn't fare much better in the originality stakes either, cos I could hang round somone's garded when they were cutting t'grass to listen to a similar, perhaps marginally better kind of noise. There's nothing to relieve one's ennui over the course of this lifeless display of feel bad noise. Utterly insipid and nettlesome buzzing that will only appeal to those who love noise enough to appreciate creators of it who do not believe in any form of experimentation or variety

TROLL BOOGER

Troll Booger is an entity even more obscure that its split-mate. No line up or contact info is given, other than the tracks were created by 'a hamster's jaw'. This is the only Troll Booger I have heard, and I'm unsure as to whether the hamster's jaw has done any other releases.

The set of tracks, entitled Must We Fart Dwarves? opens with Throw A Peanut At A Monkey, which is fashioned from guttural snarls, resonant drones and distorted rumbles, accompanies by low humming and sparse programmed percussion. A few spoken word vokills are also audible among the sludgey mess. Though there are 22 tracks on offer here, they all seem to congeal into one large homogenous quagmire. The wobbly drones and cavernous rumbles provide the foundation for the whole mess, complimented every so often by spoken words, keyboard noises, samples, clinking and growling.

Seeing as the songs all bleed into one another, it's hard to put names to the tracks which stand out. The majority of the songs have ridiculous and often nonsensical titles, such as Help Me Find A Toe, Flick A Booger At A Cripple, I Spelled A Turd and Suck Beer Off Your Rear. Though there is no way of telling where on the tape any of these songs begin or end, the parts I enjoyed involved distant tootling on a flute, the sections where the pitch of the droning resembles terminal flatulence and the snippet of spoken word which admits 'I'm a fucking retards'. Other moronic pieces of dialogue are buried beneath the continuous burbling, many of them rendered unintelligible.
I s'pose this could be likened to a lazier, hallucinogenic version of
Mermaid In A Manhole jamming with Beck in one of his more noodling moods and a much more retarded Amoebic Dysentery, with Steveggs popping in every now and then to add a layer of noise lunacy. A reference is actually made to the lad himself at one point, delcaring that he is a homosexual.

The production suits the nature of the music, the amalgamated tracks made to sound all the more marshlike and gaseous by the lo-fi recordings.

Though songwriting skills do not strictly apply to Troll Booger's seemingly improvised noise, a hamster's jaw does a fair yet slothful job of using what small resources it has, in order to create this lethargic bubbling froth broth. It has sufficient originality, though does become perfunctory and mechanical towards the end, breaks provided only by the occassional vokill/spoken word interjections. Troll Booger is by no means energetic and catchy, though it should appeal to open minded fans of grimy and bedraggled Cyberporn muddiness.

CRAP VS POOP

All in all, a peculiar little oddball of a tape. Two strange outfits both with unusual sounds, one a relentless searing buzzfest, the other an attack of malodourous foolery, both having enough anoniminity to let only their noise bleed through their obscurity. Lots of jagged shite chucked in a pool of lazy off-white sludge.
