If a victim's city touches a volcano it erupts eliminating everything in the touched areas. (The 3 Volcanoes are Mount Etna, Mount Vesuvius and Mount Thera, - touching 5 areas.)

If no volcano is present a city is eliminated via earthquake, with a secondary victim's adjacent city (by land or water) being reduced.

This occurs twice.

Urbanism - If Primary or Secondary Victim of Earthquake and Volcano hold Urbanism but not Engineering a further 4 (or all if <4) units in adjacent areas are removed. Cities are reduced if required to make up this 4 units.

Engineering -: Primary Victim in Earthquake – city reduced not eliminated but with Volcano cities still eliminated.

Engineering nullifies effect of Urbanism

Secondary victims on same plain lose 10 vulnerable unit points. Black city site cities are safe.

If no units on any flood plains then eliminate two coastal cities.

Barbarian Hordes

15 barbarian tokens, controlled by the trader, invade on or bordering a map edge, zero population area or area with barbarian tokens. The target area must contain one of the primary victim's cities (preferred) or tokens . If no such area exist the remaining barbarian tokens are eliminated.

In each attacked area the trader must resolve combat, leave tokens up to the population limit, and repeat the above process with any remaining barbarians.

Politics and Provincial Empire - an additional 5 barbarian tokens per card are added

Monarchy - 5 less barbarian tokens are placed


No area bordering a map edge, zero population area or area with barbarian tokens that are adjacent to to victim's units – no effect.











Cyclones

The open sea areas bordering to the most of the primary victim's cities is selected. In bordering areas the primary victim reduces 3 cities, all secondary victims reduce 2 cities each, and all their ships are destroyed.

Masonry - Primary and Secondary Victims - reduce one less city..

Calendar - Primary and Secondary Victims - reduce two less cities and keep two ships

If no cities border an open sea area - no effect



Epidemic Level 6

Primary victim losses 16 unit points, assigning 25 unit points to secondary victims, with no more than 10 coming from one player. No areas may be left empty, so cities are replaced by a unit token (5 – 1 = 4 unit points.)

Trader immune

Roadbuilding and Trade Empire - Primary and Secondary Victim - lose an additional 5 unit points per card

Primary Victim - Medicine and Anatomy - 8 less unit points are lost per card.

Secondary Victim - Medicine and Anatomy - 5 less unit points are lost per card
