Primary victim loses number of units equal to the number of cities he owns.

They then direct a neighbour over land or water to lose a number of units - one less than the primary victim’s loss or equal to the number of cities the neighbour owns – whichever is less. Each player selects their own losses.

This secondary victim directs a neighbour to lose a number of units – two less than the primary victim’s loss (i.e. the initial loss minus two) or equal to the number of cities owned by this tertiary victim – which ever is less.

This tertiary victim then directs a neighbour to lose units – three less that the primary victim (i.e. the initial loss minus three) etc. – and so forth.

No player may be the victim twice. The Total War continues until there are no new unaffected neighbours, or until the loss equals zero. (Cities = 5 unit points)

Two different places are affected.

If a victim's city touches a volcano it erupts eliminating everything in the touched areas. (The 3 Volcanoes are Mount Etna, Mount Vesuvius and Mount Thera, - touching 5 areas.)

If no volcano is present a city is eliminated via earthquake, with a secondary victim's adjacent city (by land or water) being reduced.

This occurs twice.

Urbanism - If Primary or Secondary Victim of Earthquake and Volcano hold Urbanism but not Engineering a further 4 (or all if <4) units in adjacent areas are removed. Cities are reduced if required to make up this 4 units.

Engineering -: Primary Victim in Earthquake – city reduced not eliminated but with Volcano cities still eliminated.

Engineering nullifies effect of Urbanism

In each attacked area the trader must resolve combat, leave tokens up to the population limit, and repeat the above process with any remaining barbarians.

Masonry - Primary and Secondary Victims - reduce one less city per open sea area.
