Title: Head or Heart? Part 1 Author: Stephanie, practiceluver@hotmail.com or SoftballGirly0@aol.com Summary: B & L, of course! This is after Bobby and Helen have broken up, and Bobby is finally coming around to his senses and realizing who his true love is... but there are some obstacles he has to overcome! That's all I'm saying! Oh and a big thank you to my best friend Hannah for helping me with this. Disclaimer: If Bobby and Lindsay were mine, I would make it seem like they were ACTUALLY a couple on the show! But they're not mine, so I have to read fanfic to get my fill of B & L moments! :'( Tear! ~*~*~*~ Bobby watched Lindsay through the window of his office with a frown on his face. She was talking on the phone, and given how much she was smiling and giggling, it could only be one person she was talking to-- her new boyfriend, Blake. There was an odd feeling in the pit of his stomach... but he couldn't quite place it. It was the same one he felt when Blake picked Lindsay up for lunch, and then dropped her off and kissed her... Okay, okay.... Bobby knew damn well what it was, but he just didn't want to admit it. It was jealousy. Total, insane, utter jealousy. When he watched her laugh as they talked on the phone, he couldn't help but feel like *he* should be the one making her laugh, making her eyes shine, making her smile light up the entire room. "Bobby?" Rebecca opened the door to his office and poked her head in, and Bobby could hear Lindsay's voice say into the phone, "Dinner and a movie would be great!" His frowned deepened, and Bec sensed something was wrong. "Bobby, what is it?" she asked sympathetically, even though she knew exactly what it was. He looked at Rebecca, flustered, and tried to come up with an excuse. "Oh, I was just looking at this file-" he said, and when his searching hands found no file on his desk he gave Bec a sheepish look. She bit her lip to keep from laughing. "Mmm, must be an interesting case." There was a slight pause, then Bec said, knowingly, "Lindsay's new man, isn't it?" Bobby put on what he thought would be a face of innocence. "Now, why would I care about him?" "Can I have 'Could you BE more obvious' for 300, Alex?" Rebecca replied with sarcasm. "Ha. Funny." "Seriously, it's written all over your face how much you love her, adore her, want her. Why don't you actually TELL her how you feel? I mean, you never know, she probably feels it too." "Bec, I think I can handle my personal life, thank you." Rebecca sighed. "Fine, suit yourself. But when Lindsay's getting fitted for a wedding gown and Blake for a suit, don't come crying to me." She walked out of the office and slammed the door. Bobby put his face in his hands. How had he let Lindsay get away from him like this? And how did he fall so hard for her? And why did he have to realize it just as she found someone new? And how would he go on if Lindsay and Blake got serious... got married? So many unanswered questions... the only question he could answer was if he truly loved Lindsay. That answer was yes. How every time he looked into those bright blue eyes he got lost... whenever she smiled fireworks went off inside him... whenever they talked he felt he could bare his soul... yes, it was love. And not the kind of love that you feel for awhile and can get over. The love that lasts forever. Bobby smiled, realizing he finally knew how he felt, and he could tell Lindsay.... then he looked up and saw Lindsay laughing into the phone, and felt totally deflated. She looked so happy talking to Blake, he just couldn't do that to her. All Bobby wanted was for Lindsay to be happy, and if Blake made her happy, well, Bobby didn't want to be the one to ruin it. IN THE OUTER OFFICE.... "Helen, yes I'm sure tonight's fine!" Lindsay said into the phone. "We had lunch today... it's going pretty good, Blake's a nice guy, it's just, the spark isn't really there, ya know? Yeah.... well we'll talk more tonight! Okay... okay...bye." She hung up the phone, then chuckled to herself. Eugene looked up at her, smiling. "You and Helen sure were talking and laughing for awhile!" Lindsay grinned. "Yeah, well, Helen's a nut!" She then stood up and picked up her briefcase. "Well, I'm going home guys. See ya tomorrow!" Bobby was interrupted from his sulking by a knock on the door, and then Lindsay coming in. "Hey!" she said, cheerfully greeting him. "I just wanted to let you know I was leaving." "Okay," Bobby smiled, but Lindsay could see the sadness in his eyes, and wondered what was wrong. She felt tempted to ask him about it, but didn't. "Well, I'll see you tomorrow. Have a good night." she said, then left the office. "Yeah," Bobby whispered to the empty room. "A good night." ~*~*~*~ THAT NIGHT, HELEN AND LINDSAY ARE HAVING DINNER AT MCCALL'S "So," Helen began inquisitively, "what's Blake like?" Lindsay grinned, she knew Helen would start right in with the third degree. "Well, he's tall, with light brown hair and deep chocolate brown eyes, and a great face. He's really nice and warm and funny. He's really a great guy." "But---?" Helen prompted. She knew Lindsay too well; she could tell there was something she wasn't saying. "But even though he's great, I just don't feel anything towards him!" Lindsay sighed in exasperation. "And I think he's way more serious than I am... I mean, the way he looks at me it's as if he's in love with me!" "Well, do you think you could grow to love him?" Lindsay shook her head slightly. "I doubt it. I like him, as a friend, but I can't love him, because... he's not... he's not-" "Not what?" Helen urged her. "Bobby." Lindsay whispered. A tear fell down her cheek. "Helen, what am I going to do? Blake is a really great guy, who I could have a future with, but all I can think about is Bobby. I love him so much, Helen!" By now the tears were flowing rather rapidly. Helen took Lindsay's hand and rubbed it gently. "You do realize, Linds, it will be hard to begin a relationship with Bobby if 1) you have a boyfriend, and 2) he has NO IDEA you still feel for him! I mean, for all he knows you're in love with Blake." "Would I be stupid to break up with Blake over Bobby? I mean, what if I break up with him, and..... and Bobby doesn't even care for me. I would have ruined my chance with Blake for nothing... is it really worth the risk? I mean, I guess the smart thing to do would be to stay with Blake, but... should I go with my head, or my heart?" Lindsay looked at Helen, begging her for the answer. "I think that's something you have to figure out for yourself." Lindsay nodded, deep in thought. She had no idea what she was going to do. ~*~*~*~ Across town in his lonely apartment, Bobby could not stop thinking about Lindsay. This was really unhealthy, loving her so much and not telling her. He just didn't know what to do. If he told her he loved her, and she didn't love him back, he would just hurt both of them. In Bobby's eyes, she seemed happy with Blake, and he didn't want to ruin a chance of her happiness with him. If he told her he loved her, he may ruin their friendship and professional relationship as well. But his heart was telling him that he couldn't go on this way, deeply in love with someone and with nowhere to put that love. All he had to do was decide what to listen to.... his head, or his heart. ~*~*~*~ Well that's it for part 1. Sorry it was kind of uneventful, put the next part will be better, I promise. If I could get some feedback that would be great... I'm a busy gal and feedback would sure help speed up the process of writing part 2. :-) ~Steph, practiceluver@hotmail.com or SoftballGirly0@aol.com
