Hello my fellow TP fans. This is my new story – hope you like it… Title: Where angels fear to tread Author: Rikke rikke.t.mellergaard@get2net.dk Disclaimer: I'm from Denmark – we don't know how to make great TV - shows in Denmark. So the characters are, of course, not mine. They belong to DEK. And to Bryan Adams I just want to say: I borrowed the title from one of your songs – hope you don't mind! Author's note: I finally got over my writer's block and finished this story. It's just a little short one and I don't really know what it's about. Actually I don't really know if I even like it, but Livvy gave it a green light, so here it is… Feedback: :-) – this is me, waiting to hear what you think… Bobby took a sip of his wine and looked around. So far he had seen no familiar faces. "Go mingle," she'd said. Yeah right! As if there was any fun in that. "Well if it isn't Bobby Donnell!" A short chubby man in an expensive suit made his way towards Bobby. "Bruce Hanson – The one and only!" Finally a face he knew. "How are you doing?" "Great! Absolutely great! Life's been treating me well." He patted himself on the belly. "I can see that." Bobby laughed. "Now don't you get started… We can't all be tall and handsome." "It's good to see you Bruce." The two men hugged each other. "Come on… The others will be thrilled to see you," Bruce said as he dragged Bobby along through the crowd. "Hey guys!" He yelled out to a group of men. "Look who I found. The gang is finally reunited!" The group greeted Bobby warmly. "Bobby Donnell – bachelor number one!" Kevin Swan said as he thumped Bobby on the back. Bobby almost felt his lungs come up and had to cough. "And you're this big lawyer now. I'm told that if I ever kill somebody I should go to you," Chris Grimson said. Bobby didn't quite know if he should take that as a compliment or what. They all started talking and laughing. Bobby was amazed. It was as if time had been standing still. He hadn't seen these guys for twenty years or so, not since they finished high school. Yet they acted like they'd only been apart for a couple of days. He'd actually hated the idea of going to his high school reunion, but people had persuaded him to go. Telling him he absolutely couldn't miss it. Now he's glad he listened to them. All the memories, all the crazy things they'd done. It was all coming back to him. As they laughed and shared old stories, he almost felt like a boy again. For a moment he stopped listening searching the crowd for her. As his gaze locked on her, Kevin placed himself beside him. The tall, blond and tanned Kevin. The always popular Kevin with the rich parents, but yet a down to earth guy who'd been one of Bobby's best friends. Kevin put his arm around Bobby's shoulder almost spilling his wine down Bobby's jacket. "You've noticed her too, huh?" He said pointing in the direction Bobby was looking. "A real piece of art… And I saw her first, so she's mine." Bobby laughed a little remembering all the girls they'd been fighting over in the past. At the same moment she looked up, and as she noticed him starring at her, she waved her hand and smiled. He smiled back and made a little movement with his hand too. "You know her?" Kevin was surprised. Bobby nodded his head. "Well, make it a fair competition and introduce us!" He caught her eyes again and motioned for her to join them. She said something to the woman she'd been talking to and started walking towards them. Bobby followed her every step – he couldn't take his eyes away from her. The long bordeaux satin dress with the thin straps suited her perfectly she outshone the crowd. No wonder people were noticing her. "Hi," she said as she reached them. At first Bobby didn't respond, he just looked at her. Then he remembered. "Lindsay meet Kevin – he's an old friend of mine." She reached out her hand to say hello. He took it, but instead of shaking it, he brought it to his mouth and placed a soft kiss on it. "Kevin meet Lindsay…" Bobby had a twinkle in his eye, "… My wife." - My beautiful, wonderful wife. He felt like screaming out to the crowd, telling everybody this woman, who nobody could take their eyes off, was actually his. It was still so unreal to him. Upon seeing the expression on Kevin's face he said: "I saw her first, and she's mine… She always will be." Slowly Kevin let go of Lindsay's hand. "Why didn't you say anything?" He asked feeling like he'd just been played for the perfect fool– which he had. "I just wanted to tease you a little. Back then it was always you who got the girls, I wanted to beat you for once…" Bobby said with a smile in his eye. "Well… Consider yourself the winner – in more than one way I should say." Bobby nodded knowing exactly what he meant. He looked at Lindsay and a tiny smiled played on his lips as he saw her cheeks blush a little over Kevin's words. Kevin turned towards the others: "Hey guys! Did any of you know that Bobby had gotten married?" All heads turned to face them – most of them with a very surprised look. Bobby took Lindsay's hand and looked at all of them. "Everybody… this is my beautiful wife Lindsay." He said with a goofy grin on his face. "Lindsay… This is everybody." "Wow, Bobby married… Who would have thought that!" Bruce said with a smile on his lips. "Yeah, who would ever have thought that." The others agreed. "Don't be so surprised… Why shouldn't I get married?" Bobby defended himself. "Oh, come on Bobby… You were so… single in High School" Bruce said. "High school is a long time ago…" "But still…" Kevin interfered, "who would have thought you would end up with such a girl?" He smiled sweetly at Lindsay. "I guess I was just in the right place at the right time. There's someone for everyone. I'm just lucky she's my someone." Lindsay looked at him a little surprised but yet delighted. She stepped a little closer to him, leaned up and kissed him ever so lightly on the cheek. The touch of her lips made a shiver run down his spine. It still amazed him, how he felt like this every time she touched him. He almost couldn't suppress the urge to put his arms around her, hold her tight and kiss her deeply. His eyes rested on her face. People were talking and music was playing, but he didn't see nor hear anything. It was as if the world existed for only two people – him and her. "Bobby… Bobby?" He suddenly realized someone was talking to him. Lindsay was looking at him with a quizzical smile. "Yeah… What?" He shook his head a little and looked at Kevin. "I asked if I could borrow your wife for just one dance…" "Sure… If she wants to. Why don't you ask her?" Bobby said letting go of Lindsay's hand. "Lindsay?" Kevin asked and reached out his hand for her to take. She took a step away from Bobby and placed her hand in Kevin's. He watched them swing around on the dance floor. Watched her put her head back and laugh her sweet laughter, when she accidentally stepped on his feet. As if a magician had cast a spell on him, he just couldn't stop looking at her. "You truly are a strange person, Bobby." The spell had been broken… Bobby slowly turned his head to look at Bruce, who was now standing beside him. "What do you mean?" "Ask any one of the guys and the person concerned would swear you've switched personality with someone." Bobby looked so clueless, that Bruce almost laughed. "Bobby, back in high school you were so… If each human being was a labyrinth, you would be the one where the center was hardest to find… None of us ever found the right way although we knew you so well. It was as if you kept this place sacred and didn't let people even get close to finding the path to follow. And then here she is… Right in that place, like she knew exactly what road to follow – or as if someone showed her…" This time Bobby knew what he meant. "Maybe a little of both…" He said meeting Bruce's eyes calmly. Bruce nodded. "She must be really special being allowed into that place…" "There's only her…" Only she would ever know this place, Bobby knew. Lindsay and Kevin had ended their dance and were now standing among the others. Bobby walked over to her, put his hand gently on her elbow and whispered in her ear: "Dance with me." She turned her head to his, her cheek touching his as she whispered back: "I thought you'd never ask." His hand sought hers. Softly she entwined her fingers in his and led him to the dance floor. He put his hand on her back and pulled her in close to him. So close he imagined he could feel her heart beat. She put her head on his shoulder and let her fingers gently caress his neck. "You do know I love you, don't you?" He mumbled into her hair. She raised her head and looked him in the eyes. "There's no doubt in my mind, Bobby." He placed his lips on her forehead and let them rest there for a while. They moved slowly to the music. Then she put her head back to his shoulder. "I love you," she whispered. In his sacred place… In his arms… Where ever… It wasn't that important. As long as she was just with him all the time.
