Title: Irresistible Author: Rikke, rikke.t.mellergaard@g... Summary: I watched the third episode of the first season – the one where B tells L that he wants her to try the tobacco case, and I just thought it was soo cute the way he put his arm around her in the end. So this story just sort of formed in my head. It's about how B & L first got together… Disclaimer: Not mine, but since it's Christmas DEK probably won't mind me borrowing them – At least I hope so… :-) Author's note: Thanks to Livvy for taking the time to help me. This new story is a lot different from "Shining through", but I hope you like it. Feedback: Yes, Yes, Yes!!! :-) She couldn't quite believe it. Was this really true? Had he just asked her to try the tobacco case? "Hey Lindsay, are you coming or what?" Bobby called from the door to the courtroom. She looked up realizing he was waiting for her. Quickly she caught up with him. As they walked out of the room together, he put his arm around her shoulders and asked: "So what do you say we go get a beer?" "Sounds great." She couldn't help smiling. He looked at her with an amused expression in his eyes. "Stop looking at me like that," she said but couldn't prevent her smile from getting bigger and bigger. "I can't… I just love that look on your face." He laughed sweetly. "What look…?" "The one you always get when you've been pleasantly surprised. This I'm-so-excited-I-don't-know-what-to-do-with-myself look." "Oh, come on… I don't have such a look." She swatted him gently in his stomach. "Yes you do." He laughed while he tried to grab her hand with his free hand to prevent her from hitting him. "I don't!" "You do!" "I don't!" "You do!" They continued arguing until they reached the street. "Look… It's snowing… I love snow!" Lindsay exclaimed excited. Big white flakes were dancing around them enveloping the street in a dreamy glow. "It could be raining rocks right now Lindsay, and you would still love it." Bobby teased her and took a step outside. "Come on… Let's get going." "You're being a major pain in the butt right now Bobby." She mumbled, mostly to herself, as she bent down and picked up some snow. Bobby was walking slowly waiting for her to catch up with him, when he was hit in the back of his head by something cold – and wet, he realized when the snow melted and ran down his neck. He turned around. "You childish, immature, little…" Splash! He was hit right in the face with the next ball of snow. Lindsay laughed and clapped her hands together. "You deserved that!" He bent down, picked up some snow and started walking towards her. "You asked for it…" "Oh, no you don't Donnell!" She moved backwards away from him. "Oh, yes I do!" "You don't!" "I do!" He threw the snow but she managed to avoid it. "Ha ha!" She cried gloating. But as she saw the evil look on his face she regretted her words, turned around and started running from him. He caught up fast and tackled her so she landed on her back in the snow. "Apologize!" He ordered as he grabbed a fistful of snow and held it right over her face. "I most certainly will not!" She was not about to let him win so easily. The snow splashed in her face. "It's cooold!" she squealed. "Really? I hadn't noticed that." He let another fistful fall on her face. "Enough Donnell… It's enough." He let go of her a little. "You give up?" "Never!" She laughed pushing him off her down in the snow. "And never underestimate the power of a woman!" He tried to prevent her from pouring snow in his face, but he didn't succeed. "Okay, now you really asked for it!" She was surprised by his strength as he grabbed her, rolled her over him and threw her face down in the snow. He lifted up her neckline and poured snow down her bare neck. She screamed as it melted and started running down her back. "Stop it! It's not fair!" "Have you had it?" He asked laughing. "Yes, yes I have!" "What did you say?" This was too much fun to let her get off so easy. "Yes, I've had it… I'm sorry… I apologize…" She was almost begging. "Now, that's my girl." He got off her and helped her to her feet. "I hate you Bobby Donnell!" she emphasized, while trying to dust off the snow. "I can't go get a beer with you now." "Why not?" He was disappointed. "Why not? Hey Ace, look at me I'm all wet!" He looked at her and laughed out loud. She really did look awful. Her hair was one big mess and her coat was all crumpled and wet. "I'm soaked!" She whined. "I'm really, really sorry… I feel awful." Bobby pretended to be serious. "No you're not… And you better stop provoking me… Or else…" "… Or else what… You'll dip me in the snow?!" He really enjoyed this. "Now who's being immature, Donnell?" She looked at him like he was a little child behaving badly, but she couldn't help feeling slightly amused. This was a side of him she had never experienced before and she kind of liked it. "Look I live just two blocks from here… Let's go to my place and get you some dry clothes." He put his arm around her shoulders. "What do you say?" "Do you have beer?" She asked. He looked at her and raised his eyebrows. "Hey, don't give me that look… I need something to comfort me and make me feel better after the way you've treated me!" "And so you turn to the bottle…" He so liked teasing her. "You know what Donnell, I've just about had it with you. Let's get out of here before I do something drastic that might make me end up in a jail cell." He felt her body shiver. She was starting to get cold, so he didn't argue with her, although he had a very strong desire to, and led her towards his apartment. "Welcome to my humble residence," Bobby said and opened the door to the apartment letting her inside. He followed her inside and closed the door behind them. Lindsay walked into the living room and looked around curiously. "So this is how the great Bobby Donnell lives." He took off his coat. "Hey Lindsay, stop snooping around and get out of those clothes." She turned around looking at him with raised eyebrows. "Excuse me?!" "Uh… I mean… That really didn't come out the right way…" His face went all red. Then she smiled. "Relax… I know what you meant." "Good… Good." He hurried into the bedroom to find her some clothes. In the meantime Lindsay took off her coat and suit jacket. She looked around the room again. It was a little messy, but very cosy. Large shelves filled with books, pictures all over the walls. She liked it. "Here, you can put this on," he said and threw a shirt and a pair of boxers on the couch. She picked up the shirt. It had the name "Samba Bar" written over the left breast pocket. "Samba bar?" She asked him. "Ah… I sort of worked as a bartender for a couple of month… In Greece." "You… A bartender?" She looked surprised. "I was twenty-one, okay? It's a long time ago." "And you still have the shirt?" "Hey, it's my favorite one… Don't talk it down." Bobby defended his old shirt. She smiled her sweet smile to him. "I won't then." "Thank you! Now go get changed." "Okay, I will." She picked up the boxers and started walking to his bedroom. Then she stopped and turned around. "Snoopy?" She asked in an amused voice holding out the boxers. "Oh, don't start again. I like him, okay? Now go change!" As ordered she went to the bedroom and changed. "Hey Bobby, where do I put my wet clothes?" She yelled. "In the bathroom," Bobby yelled back opening the fridge searching for beer. "You find anything good in there?" Lindsay asked as she walked in the kitchen. He looked up at her slightly amused. "Looking good, Dole. All ready for trial?" He teased. She shot him a dark look. "Just get me a beer, Donnell!" He handed her a beer and got one for himself as well. They went to the living room where Lindsay threw herself down in an old comfy armchair and placed her legs on the table. Bobby couldn't stop himself from glancing at her long, smooth legs and he felt a sudden desire to lean over and touch them. But he didn't. He wouldn't allow himself to cross that line. Even though he had often thought of doing it. "Hey, Donnell!" Bobby looked up with a start and realized he had been starring for quite a while. "What are you starring at?" She smiled at him playfully. For the second time that afternoon Bobby blushed. "I… Uh… Nothing… I was just…" Lucky for him the phone rang at that exact moment. He picked it up. "Hallo… Oh, hi Em." Lindsay watched as an annoyed expression spread on his face. "No, now is not a good time… Can't you come by tomorrow instead? … Well, make it quick then, can you?" He made a resigned gesture with his hand and then he hung up. "Oh, no!" He mumbled and rubbed his forehead. Lindsay looked at him. "What was that all about?" "It's an old girlfriend of mine… She seems to be having trouble letting go of our relationship. There's always some reason for her to call me or come by… I'm so tired of that." "How long ago did you break up?" "Almost six months!" "And she still keeps calling you?" "Uh, well… I met her at a party about three weeks ago, and I sort of ended up sleeping with her…" "No wonder she's trying to make contact with you… That is just so typical of men!" Lindsay sounded a bit angry. "Hey, I made it pretty clear to her that I was not interested in more before we… It's not my fault that she finds me irresistible." He looked very serious. Lindsay couldn't help but laugh. "I'm glad you're not over-modest." Bobby realized how it must have sounded to her and laughed as well. "Hey, I can't help it… Women just find me irresistible… It's my charm!" "Oh, is that right?!" "Yeah… Look at yourself, you're ready to throw yourself all over me." He had a mischievous look in his eyes. "You know Donnell, if I didn't know you would deliberately misinterpret my actions, I would slap you one right now!" He sent her a gorgeous smile. "I most definitely would misinterpret that." She shook her head and smiled back not quite able to read his intentions. Was he just joking around or was he coming on to her? She took a sip of her beer. "Well, anyway – to get back on track – she `forgot' her scarf and now she wants to come get it." "Seems fair enough." "Yeah, but she's just so damn hard to get to leave once she's here." "Oh… Well can't you just tell her you've got some important visitors, and I'll sit here, in your Snoopy boxers and look very important?" Lindsay asked. "Somehow I don't think she'll buy it…" He said with laughter in his voice, then suddenly he became silent and a funny expression spread over his face. "… But then again…" "What?" She didn't quite know how to interpret him. "If you were my girlfriend…" "What!" She repeated herself. "Well, if she thought I was seeing someone, maybe she would take the hint." "Oh yeah! You would like that, wouldn't you." "Come on Linds… It's just pretend, and you would be really helping me." Bobby starred at her with pleading eyes. It probably wouldn't do any harm, she decided. "Okay, I'll help you then." "Great!" Bobby was excited. Ten minutes later the doorbell rang. Lindsay got up from the chair. "Well, this is it… Show time!" "You go girl!" Bobby lifted his beer to salute her. She grabbed her beer as well and took a last sip before she went to answer the door. As she reached the door the bell rang once again. "Just a second." She put on a sweet voice as she opened the door. Outside a tall, good-looking woman was standing looking very surprised the door had been opened by another woman. She took a step backwards taking in Lindsay's appearance and immediately recognized the shirt. "Hi." Lindsay said still in her sweet voice. "Uh… Hi… Is Bobby here?" "Yeah, sure… One second." She acted as if it was completely normal to be standing in Bobby's clothes welcoming his old girlfriends. "Bobby," she called. "You've got a visitor." Bobby took his time getting to the door, pretending he had just been in the middle of something. As he reached the two women, he moved in close to Lindsay and put a hand on her waist. "Hi Em… How are you?" "I'm fine thank you." She answered in a forced voice. "Look, Bobby… Can I talk to you… Alone?" "Sure." He said and then he leaned closer to Lindsay putting his mouth to her ear. "Act like I've just said something really sweet and funny and then walk away." He whispered. She turned her face towards his, her lips only inches from his. A sweet, secret and sexy smile formed on her lips. "I will." She whispered back just loud enough for Emma to hear. Bobby could barely keep himself from laughing when he saw the dark expression on Emma's face. God, his girl was doing a great job! As Lindsay walked away she let her hand slightly touch Bobby's. Something that didn't go unnoticed by Emma. Lindsay had problems keeping a straight face, so she rushed to the living room where she sat down and decided to eavesdrop on the rest of their conversation. "Who's she?" Emma asked. "Lindsay?… Oh, she's just someone I work with." Bobby answered innocently. "Yeah right! That's why she's running around in your shirt. If you're going to lie, could you at least learn to do it a little better?" Her voice was bitter. "Why do you even bother to ask Em, when you have already formed your own opinion. You asked, and I answered the way I did because I don't really think it's any of your business who or what Lindsay is to me… You have your life and I have mine. Let's leave it at that." Emma's face went white with anger. "Could I just get my scarf, Bobby?" Bobby found the scarf and handed it to her. She ripped it out of his hand and she was gone. With a little smile on his face Bobby closed the door and went to the kitchen. From the fridge he grabbed two beers and walked to the living room. "Absolutely beautiful performance, definitely worth an Academy Award… You nailed her, girl!" He said as he handed Lindsay the beer. "Well, thank you Donnell." She said as she opened her beer. He flashed her a big smile. Lindsay took a drink. "She really didn't like the shirt-thing, huh?" "Oh, no… She definitely hated that one. It was awesome." "So this is a shirt all your women wear?" Suddenly she felt a little uncomfortable wearing it. "All my women?" Bobby laughed. "You make me sound like some kind of a womanizer." Lindsay looked down. "But no, it isn't a shirt `all my women' wear. It's my favorite one. No one but me ever wears it." He grabbed his beer and as he was about to take a sip, he sort of mumbled: "… Apart from today, anyway." Hoping that she wouldn't really hear him. But she did and couldn't quite hide the tiny smile on her lips. She was slightly moved by his gesture, though it also made her feel a little weird. What did this mean? She couldn't really read him and his intentions. It's not that she wasn't attracted to him – you had to be a fool not to be, but it was a place they couldn't go. To change the subject a little she said: "She sure is pretty… Huh?" "I don't know. Is she?" He said carelessly and drank some beer. "God Bobby, listen to yourself. As if you hadn't noticed… You dated her." "Well, of course I know she's good-looking, but pretty… You can find prettier women." She couldn't stop herself from getting a bit angry. It was always the same with men, they just wanted someone who looked good, no matter how stupid that someone was. She was disappointed. Somehow she had thought that he was different. "Oh, you can…" She asked belligerently. But he didn't sense this, he just looked deeply into her eyes. "Sure. You are… You're prettier than she'll ever be." The belligerence disappeared from her at once. This was probably the sweetest thing anyone had ever said to her. He was definitely about to cross the forbidden line, so she decided, it was time to leave. She got up from the chair. Her head was spinning and she had to reach for the chair-arm. "I… I better go," She said wishing she'd had one less beer. "Why?" He asked in a soft voice. "Because I'm drunk, and… And you're saying things to me, that you shouldn't be saying." He got up from the couch and walked towards her. "And you're afraid of what… That I might take advantage of the situation?" "No, no… Of course not!" She said quickly almost stumbling over the words. He moved in closer. "Well… You should be…" She looked up and her eyes met his. Alarm bells went off in her head, telling her to stop this and move away. But as he leaned closer she didn't move away, she didn't want to. His lips met hers. A gentle promising, yet wanting kiss. Lindsay felt the warmth spread all over her body. Maybe this was wrong, but it sure as hell felt right. As they broke apart Lindsay looked away feeling slightly uncomfortable. "Bobby… We shouldn't be doing this…" As if he didn't know that. Rule number one: Never get involved with a co-worker. But now that he had crossed the line there was no way he could go back. With his hand on her chin he gently got her to face him again. "I know that Linds… But I want to…" She laughed a little. "You're just as drunk as I am." He couldn't help but laugh too. "Well, if I am, just remember that you hear the truth from kids and drunk people… We could be great together… Besides I know you find me irresistible." "Oh yeah, that's right… I had completely forgotten that," she said sarcastically. "Well, good thing you have me to remind you." Bobby said and kissed her again. All the reasons not to be doing this were running through Lindsay's head, but she chose to ignore them, she put her arms around Bobby's neck and deepened the kiss. Suddenly Bobby broke of the kiss, lifted her up and started walking to the bedroom. "Hey Ace, what are you doing?!" Lindsay laughed. "I'm taking you to a place where I can get you out of those Snoopy boxers." "Oh, you are?" She said playfully. "Damn right I am… And it can't happen fast enough!" He said and spun her around. "Why Bobby Donnell, you naughty boy!" Bobby reached the bed, put her down gently and placed himself on top of her, all the while kissing her. Late at night Bobby was laying awake. His hand was resting on Lindsay's stomach gently caressing the naked skin. Though she was fast asleep she stirred a little and cuddled in closer to him. He liked that. He liked being here with her. It was a little weird. Sure he had been attracted to her, but he had never really imagined ending up like this. And it wasn't like he had been in love with her or something. He wasn't even sure that he was in love now. But it just felt really, really right to him laying here next to her. Gently he placed a kiss on her bare shoulder. He really liked her – a lot, but love… It had been ages since he had really been in love. At the same time though he felt, that it probably wouldn't take more than a couple more nights like this one, and he would be head over heels. He pulled her in a little closer, and feeling her back against his chest he fell asleep. Next morning Lindsay was woken by a kiss on her forehead. She opened her eyes and looked directly into Bobby's. "Good morning, sleepyhead," he said. "Morning," she said and looked away. "What's the matter?" Bobby suddenly became afraid he had done something wrong. "This is just a little embarrassing," she still wouldn't look him in the eye. "Why?" He wanted to know. Finally she looked at him. "Well… Sleeping with the boss isn't something I usually do." "It isn't?" He raised his brows and acted surprised. She relaxed a little and slapped him gently on the chest. "No…" "Oh… You were really good at it though… So… You could've fooled me!" He gave her a teasing little smile. She blushed a bit and didn't know quite what to say. Though she would have loved to shut him up with a saucy reply. Then suddenly she became very serious. "You know we can't tell anyone at the office about this." She was horrified at the thought of them knowing what had happened. "Why not… What are you afraid of? That they might think you're sleeping your way to the top?" He was still teasing her. She decided to send that one right back at him. "Well, isn't that what I'm doing?" At the expression of his face she laughed a little. But of course he had a quick answer to that one too. "No, it's not. You're sleeping with me because it gives you such pleasure and because you find me irresistible. But if you don't want to tell… Fine by me – as long as you come back tonight." "Oh…" How does anyone respond to that? Instead she looked at her watch and sat up very quickly. "What?" Bobby asked. "Oh my God, we overslept, it's 8 o'clock." "It is? Well… Go, go… Hit the shower, I'll make some breakfast." Lindsay took a quick shower and went to get her clothes. The skirt and jacket could be used again, but the shirt definitely hadn't liked the snow fight the day before. It was dirty and very crumpled. She grabbed the shirt and ran to the kitchen, where Bobby was setting the table. "Bobby! What am I going to do? My shirt is all dirty and I have no time to go home for a new one!" He couldn't help laughing a little over her panicked state. "Relax Lindsay… Take one of mine." "I can't, they don't fit. People will know." "Of course they won't. You just keep your jacket on and nobody will notice." He moved close to her and placed a soft kiss on her lips. Then he pulled away a little, but kept looking at her. "What are you looking at?" Lindsay smiled. "You know, you have freckles?" He hadn't noticed them before, but thought they looked very cute. "Oh no! You can see them!" "Sure, they're very sweet." "No, they're not. I hate them! Don't you have some make up I can use to cover them up?" Lindsay was just about to panic. No shirt and no make up! This was too much. "Sure," Bobby said, "the dresser in the bedroom – bottom left drawer." Lindsay rushed to the bedroom, pulled out the drawer and found it full of socks. Hmm… She looked up. Bobby was standing in the door. "Sucker!" He laughed. "Hey, how was I to know…" She tried to excuse herself. "Come on Freckle, wouldn't you have thought me very weird if I had a drawer with make up in it?" Okay, she couldn't find her way out of that one. "Don't call me Freckle!" Was all she could think of to say. In the meantime Bobby found a shirt for her in the closet. "Here, take this one. And go get some breakfast while I shower… Unless of course you want to join me." She shot him a look telling him this was no time for being funny. He took the hint. "I'll just go alone." "Yeah, I think so too." She said but a smile was playing on her lips. She couldn't be really mad at him. "So, are we ready?" Lindsay asked and began to open the front door. Bobby reached out and closed the door again. "No, not yet." He pushed her up against the wall and started to kiss her. Eagerly she responded to his kiss. For a minute they forgot all about time and space. As they broke apart Bobby whispered to her: "Promise me you'll be back tonight." Out of breath Lindsay just nodded. Oh yeah, she would definitely be back! As they reached the office building Lindsay slowed down a little. Bobby stopped. "What now?" He asked. "Maybe we shouldn't walk in together, Bobby." She was beginning to feel nervous. "Why? They won't know Lindsay… Relax." But as he saw the look on her face he gave in to her and said: "As you wish Milady." She gave him a two minutes allowance before she walked in herself. At the office everything seemed normal. Maybe Bobby was right. Maybe it was just in her head. She unbuttoned her jacket, sat down and started reading some files. Slowly she started to relax. How would they ever know? She smiled to herself. If they only knew! The door to Bobby's office opened and he poked his head out. "Lindsay, could you get the Durning file and come in here for a minute." He sent her a sweet smile that no one else noticed. "Sure." She got up and walked to Rebecca's desk. "Hey Bec, do you have the Durning file somewhere?" "Yeah, just a second." Rebecca went through a pile of files. As she handed Lindsay the file, Lindsay couldn't help notice she was starring at her. "What Rebecca?! Do I have something on my face?" The intense stare was annoying her. But Rebecca just kept starring at her then asked: "Is that Bobby's shirt you're wearing…"
