Hmm… Okay… This probably needs a bit of explaining. It's actually a part 2 of my other story "Irresistible". Since it's like forever since I posted that one and it took me another eternity to write this one, I should probably give you a short summary of "Irresistible"… Here goes: It was basically my idea of how B&L first got together… - I said short, didn't I?? :-) This takes off exactly were "Irresistible" ended, so because I'm like a really, really nice person, I'll write the last few lines of "Irresistible" here for those who haven't read or don't remember it… Are you ready?? Sure?? – Okay here goes… `As she handed Lindsay the file, Lindsay couldn't help notice she was starring at her. "What Rebecca?! Do I have something on my face?" The intense stare was annoying her. But Rebecca kept starring at her then asked: "Is that Bobby's shirt you're wearing…"' – And for the record – Yes, yes, yes, that was Bobby's shirt… He He!! This story doesn't follow the show at all… I've completely messed it all up! Sorry… Really I am… Okay, so maybe not… As always thanks to Livvy for editing the story and making my English understandable. You've been very *patient* (and by the way, I having people remove all trees and bushes in a one mile radius of my house… :-)) And to Jewel and Livvy (again…) you've been really kind to me… Thanks a million billion… Disclaimer: The characters don't belong to me… (And no Livvy they don't belong to you either – sorry! :-)) The lyrics in the beginning are from Bryan Adams' "One night love affair" Feedback: Pleeeeeaaaaaseeeeeee!!!!!!!! It's my birthday in a week (the 26.) and a lot of feedback would be the next best thing I could get… (Part 34 of Soulmates would be the best!!:-)) - And now to the story (bet you thought I'd never get there, huh?!)… ********** How to get four elephants into a red Volvo… When the morning breaks We go our separate ways If the night was made for love it ain't for keeps… "Yes… No! … I don't know what you're talking about!" Lindsay could feel her face blush and looked away trying to avoid Rebecca's intense stare. "Anyway… I gotta go to court." Lindsay rushed to her desk, packed her things, grabbed her coat and headed to the door. Rebecca watched her slightly amused. "But weren't you going…" The door slammed. "… to Bobby's office?" She laughed to herself. This could be interesting and she certainly wasn't going to leave it there. She got up and walked to Bobby's office. "Did you bring the file Linds?" Bobby asked as he heard the door open. "No I didn't," Rebecca said trying to hide her goofy smile. "Oh Bec, it's you… I thought you were Lindsay." Bobby looked up from his work. "Yeah, obviously…" "We're supposed to go over the Durning case," Bobby explained. "Well she just went to court." "What?" Bobby looked surprised. "…But I just asked her to come in here." "I know, but she disappeared in a hurry when I asked her why she was wearing your shirt!" Rebecca had a hard time controlling the grin that wanted to spread on her face. "What!" Bobby said once again not knowing quite how to respond. She couldn't know, could she? "That can't have been my shirt, you must be wrong. Why would she be wearing my shirt?" Bobby tried to laugh it off. "Well, I could ask you the same question." Rebecca folded her arms across her chest. "That was not my shirt Rebecca!" Bobby emphasized. "Oh give me a break Bobby! Now tell…" "That was not…" Bobby tried again, but Rebecca cut him off: "I gave you that shirt for your birthday last year…" Suddenly Bobby remembered. "Oh yeah, right… I'd forgotten that…" "Okay, so now I ask you once again. Why is Lindsay wearing your shirt?" She had him right where she wanted him. "Well, there's a perfectly reasonable explanation to that…" Bobby began. "I believe that Bobby - almost anyway – now explain to me." He looked up and in her eyes he saw that he couldn't get away with a lie. "We slept together…" He mumbled and put his head in his hands. "Say again." Rebecca said not really surprised. "We slept together, okay… And I'm sorry if I've disappointed you!" Bobby was getting defensive. Why should it matter to him anyway what Rebecca thought of him? But it did. It always did. She knew him better than most people. "Oh, I'm not disappointed in you. I just think your timing could have been better. The others might think this is why you gave her the tobacco case." "That is not why Rebecca! Besides this was just a one night thing…" Okay, so it was a little lie, but she didn't have to know everything. "…And could we please not tell the others about this." He was almost begging. "Why?" Rebecca wanted to know. She would have loved to be the one to tell. "Because it's nothing… And she doesn't want people to know." Rebecca looked closely at him. "But you wouldn't really mind if they knew, would you?" He hadn't really thought of that, but she was probably right. It wouldn't be that bad having Lindsay with him without hiding. He just didn't feel though that this was something he could share with Rebecca. So he said: "Of course I would. A boss can't have a relationship with one of his employees." Rebecca didn't really believe him. Something in his eyes was telling her otherwise. She decided not to take it any further. There was just one little thing she needed to ask. "Are you in love with her?" Bobby looked up and met her eyes. He shook his head. "No." She believed that, but there was something… "But you could be falling in love with her…?" To this Bobby nodded. "Head over heels…" Finally satisfied Rebecca left Bobby's office. In the meantime Lindsay slammed the door open to Helen's office and threw herself in the chair in front of the desk. "Bad day. Bad, bad day…" she sighed. Helen, who had gotten used to Lindsay's dramatic entrances, looked up for the first time. "Why?" "Don't ask… Just let me sit here for a little while." Lindsay put her head back and closed her eyes. "Okay, I won't then," Helen said and picked up the pen she'd just put down. They sat in silence for a minute or two, then Helen spoke. "Can I say something now?" Lindsay opened her eyes and rubbed her temples with her fingers. "Yeah, what…" "Why…" "…You said `say' not `ask'. I'm in no mood for questions!" Lindsay interrupted. "Just let me finish, okay…" Lindsay mumbled something incomprehensibly, and Helen continued. "Why are you wearing a man's shirt?" There was a triumphant twinkle in her eyes. "God! What is it with you people today?! Why is everybody being so damn nosey!" Lindsay said resignedly while a nice red color once again spread on her face. "What do you mean, people? This is just me, and I would like to know why you're wearing that shirt. You wanna know what I think? I think you've had sex!" Helen was very satisfied with herself. "Helen! I have not had…" "Oh come on! I can see it in your eyes. Now tell me who he is." "You know what Helen… I'm leaving. I should have known better than to come here." Lindsay got up from the chair and walked towards the door. "No you don't. You can't just run away." Helen had a grin on her face. Lindsay made sure the door slammed hard behind her. As she walked down the hallway she heard the door open and Helen shout after her. "I'll find out who he is, Linds. I always do!" Later that night Lindsay knocked on the door to Bobby's apartment. Her heart was beating fast and she was feeling very nervous. What if he didn't really want her to come over? What if it was just something he had said so she wouldn't feel bad? Her thoughts were interrupted by the door opening. "Lindsay, hi… What are you doing here?" The surprise was written all over Bobby's face. Her face went red and she immediately regretted coming by. This was so stupid. She should have known he didn't really mean it, when he'd told her to come back. Suddenly a smile spread on his face. He reached out, took her hand and pulled her inside. Once inside he pushed her up against the wall and bent his head down, so his mouth was only inches from hers. "You are so easy, Freckle!" She could see the laughter in his eyes. She felt fooled and relieved at the same time. "God Bobby, sometimes you're just so… hateable." He looked at her as if she had just hurt him deeply. "Really? You think so…" She nodded with a put on seriousness. Then his face lit up. "Naah, you don't!" Lindsay looked away still a little unsure. Bobby turned her head so she faced him again. "Are you nervous Linds?" He smiled sheepishly. "No… No I'm not," she said but couldn't hide the fact that indeed she was. "Yes you are…" Gently he stroked her cheek "…You shouldn't be." "It's just that… This is a little awkward…" She shook her head "…I mean… I don't even know why I'm here…" "You're here…" Bobby said tracing her neckline with his finger "… because I…" "I know, I know… Because you're irresistible!" Lindsay interrupted. A tiny smile played on his lips. "Well, yeah, that I am… But, believe it or not, that was not what I was going to say." "Oh." She looked away, the intensity of his gaze was almost too much. "You're here…" He started again "…because I asked you to… And I'm really glad you came." His hand found the top button of her shirt and slowly opened it. Lindsay sighed and relaxed a bit. Her eyes followed his hand that was now sliding down her chest to the next button. "By the way…" He whispered "…I talked to Rebecca. She said you left in quite a hurry this morning." "Yeah, well…" Lindsay began. "I never knew you were that type of girl," he interrupted and leaned in so his mouth once again was only a breath away from hers. "What type?!" She pulled back a little defensively. "The type to sleep with me once, steal the shirt off my back and then never speak to me again." A grin spread on her face. "Well, I'm here talking to you now aren't I, and who said anything about once?" The invitation in her voice was unmistakably. Bobby closed the distance between them and kissed her deeply. Lindsay responded eagerly enjoying every second. Her legs felt weak, and as he pulled away ending the kiss she had to reach for him to keep herself on her feet. "Do you need to lie down, Linds?" Bobby whispered in a teasing voice. "Yeah, I think that would be a good idea," she whispered back breathlessly. He pushed her up against the wall and started kissing her again, while his hand went to her shirt and undid the rest of the buttons. "Bobby…" She pushed him away a little and looked him in the eyes. "… The bedroom… Now!!" "I could get used to this…"Bobby said a couple of hours later. They were lying in bed. "What? You mean this…" Lindsay rolled over and placed herself on top of him. "Yeah…" He whispered and gently stroked the hair away from her face. But she could see in his eyes that there was something else… "… You don't mean this…" She looked away afraid her eyes would show her disappointment, and began to roll back down next to him. He grabbed her and prevented her from doing it. He looked her right in her eyes. "Yes Lindsay, I do mean this… I mean everything… Being with you…" He took a deep breath. "Why don't we tell the others about us…?" She sighed. "I don't think that's a good idea, Bobby. I mean… I'm hardly accepted by them now as it is. Think what it would be like if I told them `Hey, by the way I'm sleeping with our boss, but don't worry… nothing's gonna change.' I'm afraid to even think of how Ellenor would respond." "But Linds…" Bobby interrupted. "No Bobby… Try putting yourself in my position." She wanted him to understand. A little grin spread on his face. "What? You mean on top?!" As much as she tried she couldn't stop herself from laughing. "I'm being serious here, Bobby." "So am I." Bobby said innocently but his blue eyes told her otherwise. "No you're not!" She swatted him gently on the chest. "I don't even know why I'm surprised. It's impossible to have a serious conversation with you. You're impossible!" "No I'm not!" He said holding her wrists afraid of another attack. "I'm ir…" "Oh no, no, no… Don't say it!" She wrestled to get her hands free so she could put them over his mouth, but his grip was too strong. As he was just about to speak again she put her mouth to his and silenced him with a kiss instead. At about 5 a.m. Lindsay snuck out of Bobby's embrace. Silently she got dressed and was about to leave the room, when she heard his voice behind her. "So… You sleep with me twice and then never speak to me again…" "Bobby… It's not like that. I just don't feel like showing up in one of your shirts again." She smiled a sweet smile to him. He smiled back agreeing with a silent nod, but felt disappointed. "When will I see you again?" He said wanting her to stay a little longer. She looked at her watch. "In about three hours, I should think." "You know what I meant Freckle." He said with more seriousness than she'd expected him to. She walked over and knelt beside the bed. "I guess I could come back tonight," she said while she reached out and gently stroked his forehead. "What about this afternoon?" "Oh, I can't. I have to go shopping." "You have to go shopping?" He repeated and looked at her with amusement in his eyes. She realized it must have sounded like a bad excuse. "I do… You know my friend Helen Gamble from the D.A.'s office?" Bobby nodded. "Well, her parents are having a big Christmas party this weekend and I really need a new dress." Lindsay could see the laughter in his eyes as she stopped talking. "What?!" She demanded to know. "It's just funny how you women always need new clothes. It's never that you would like some new clothes… You always need it." He had a teasing tone in his voice. "You really love doing this, don't you?" "Doing what?" He asked innocently. "You always have to dissect everything I say and do!" Not that she really minded it. She liked the way he loosened up around her when they weren't at the office. "No… I don't have to…" The teasing tone was back in his voice. "You see the difference is, I don't *need* to do it, but I *like* to do it." He barely managed to escape the hand that was reaching out to slap him one. "But anyway…" He said feeling safe now that he was out of her reach. "… I'll go shopping with you." The expression on her face made him smile. "You'll what?!" "Go shopping with you." "Oh no, you won't! I have two brothers and I know from experience that men hate shopping." She had a very clear memory of her brothers' whining as they were dragged from store to store. "Maybe… But if it means I get to spend time with you, then I don't mind." Damn him! He always knew exactly what to say to make her knees go weak. "Okay," she leaned in and kissed him, "then come shopping with me." Helen was standing in the court house corridor when she spotted Bobby walking by. A thought occurred to her and by a sudden impulse she called out to him. "Hey Donnell!" He stopped and looked around trying to figure out who'd been calling him. Helen took a step towards him. "Here Donnell," she said and waved her hand. He looked at her as if he couldn't quite place her anywhere. "Helen Gamble… Lindsay's friend…" She told and waited for him to recognize her. "Oh yeah, Helen… Of course… I remember you…" Bobby said finally realizing who she was, "…Can I help you?" "Uh, well, yeah… I really just wanted to know why Linds was wearing your shirt yesterday." "God! Not you too!" Bobby rolled his eyes. "You know, why don't you find Rebecca and join her in the "let's-be-really-nosey-and-dig-into- Bobby's-personal-life"-club!" Helen opened her mouth to reply, but Bobby was already on his way down the corridor again. She grinned to herself. Figuring out Lindsay's secrets had never been difficult, but this one had almost been too easy… Bobby had finished work early that afternoon and was now walking down the busy street. The snow was again dancing down from the sky. He pulled up his collar and looked up at the people around him, all doing the exact same thing, to protect themselves from the snow. As he crossed the street he spotted Lindsay and a smile spread on his face. While people were hurrying by her, she stood still facing the sky. The cap was tugged well down below her ears and a big muffler was almost covering her face. She had her arms spread out to the sides. Her palms were turned up catching the big snowflakes as they whirled down. Her mind was totally oblivious to the world around her. Bobby tiptoed up behind her. "Which mental institution did you escape from?" He said to her with laughter in his voice. She jumped a little and turned around. A smile lit up her face. "Hey you… I hadn't seen you." "I noticed that. You were kinda preoccupied." She looked away feeling slightly embarrassed. "What were you doing?" He asked curiously. She shrugged her shoulders. "…I don't know… I was just… catching the snow, I guess…" A smile played on Bobby's lips. "Yeah, well… As long as you don't start throwing it…" "Be careful Donnell, or I might just do that." She threatened him with a grin on her face. Bobby put his arm around her shoulders. "I think we better get going now, before this turns ugly." "So… What kind of dress are we looking for?" Bobby asked as they entered the store. "Uh… I'm not really sure…" Lindsay said and took off her cap. "Oh well… it shouldn't be too difficult to find one then…" The sarcasm in his voice was unmistakable. "You know Donnell, we've barely started this shopping project and already you're whining. I told you this wasn't a good idea. Men were never meant to shop." "Hey, I was not whining. All I was saying was, it's going to be difficult for me to look for a dress, when I don't know what I'm looking for." "I didn't know you were looking for a dress too. I never would have imagined that. But then again, you'd probably look nice in one." She couldn't help tease him a little. "Cute Freckle, real cute!" "I know." She flashed him a sweet smile. "God, Lindsay, you are so…" He searched for the right word. "…Irresistible?!" She proposed. His lips spread into a smile. "Yeah… Irresistible." And then he kissed her. "Bobby, there's no time for this now. We have a mission, remember?" She pushed him away a little. "Could we maybe just postpone this mission, or make a new one that would take us to my apartment?" "Donnell!" She said in a warning tone. "Okay, okay… I'll behave." He surrendered. She smiled. "Tell you what… You be good now, and I'll be good to you later, okay?" "Promise?" he said smiling sheepishly. He could live with that. "Bobby, I'll go try these." Lindsay said holding out two dresses. "Sure… I'll just go look over there," Bobby said pointing to the menswear section. She nodded and went to the changing room. While she was trying on one of the dresses, Bobby suddenly poked his head in. "Bobby… Get out! This is a woman's changing room." Lindsay laughed. "Oh come on Freckle… Nothing there I haven't seen before." She blushed and tried to think of something really good to say – but words failed her. "Here, try this on:" Bobby said handing her a little black sexy thing. "What?! No! I will not." She told him in a firm voice, yet her eyes were twinkling. "Yes, come on, try it… I'm sure you'll look great in it." "Bobby, you promised to be good!" "I am, I am… Just try it." He looked at her with pleading eyes. "No!" She stated again. "Yes!" "Bobby Donnell, which part of no didn't you understand? The N or the O?!" "Okay, okay, don't try it then… Your loss." Bobby said and gestured dismissively with his arm. "I don't know… I would say… Your loss!" Her eyes were smiling. Bobby rolled his. "Could we just get done here, and go home… Please?!" "Why? Do you have plans?" "Oh yeah, I sure do!" He said smiling mischievously. The next evening Lindsay was sitting in her living room working – of course. A knock on the door caught her attention. Wondering who it was - hoping it was Bobby - she went to open. "Helen… Hi!" Lindsay said surprised when she found her friend standing outside. "You look disappointed…" was the first thing Helen said, "… Were you expecting someone else?" Her eyes were glued to Lindsay's face waiting to see her reaction as she stepped inside. "What? No… Of course not… Who would I expect?" Lindsay tried to act innocent. "Oh, I don't know… Say… Bobby?" She couldn't disguise the triumphant tone in her voice. Lindsay gave up. "How did you find out?" "Oh, you know… I have my ways. And besides… You should have known I would find out… I always do, don't I?!" Lindsay nodded. No point in denying… Helen had been blessed with the fantastic gift of figuring out other people's secrets. "So, come on… Tell me all about it." Helen's eyes were twinkling in anticipation. "There's nothing to tell Helen…" "Oh please… You of all people… I can hardly believe it… Lindsay Dole sleeping with her boss… Man, are you gonna hear about it for this one." Lindsay smiled a little. "And you wonder why I didn't tell you…" "Okay, point taken!" Helen said smiling, "… Now tell!" "Helen…" Lindsay whined. "Don't Helen me! I have a right to know." "You have a right to know?" Lindsay raised her eyebrows. "Yeah, yeah, whatever!" Helen waved her hand. "Just tell me, okay?!" "There really isn't much to tell… We got drunk and well… One thing let to another." "Well, I would like to know about that one thing leading to another." Helen had a playful twinkle in her eyes. "Helen, stop now okay? It was just a one night thing." Silently Lindsay prayed that her last little lie would slip through Helen's x- ray vision. "A one night thing…" Helen repeated as if she didn't know whether to believe it or not. "Well, was it good?" Lindsay rolled her eyes. She should have known that question would be asked. But at least it meant Helen had decided to believe her. "As if I would tell you. It's none of your business." "Lindsay…" Helen said in a tone as if she was explaining something to a little child, "…I'm your best friend. You're supposed to tell these kinda things to your best friend." "I don't think that counts when your best friend is Helen Gamble. You're too nosey and indiscreet to be told anything personal." "Hey, don't be rude." Helen protested "…But I guess you're right. Besides I'll just trick Bobby into telling me instead." "I have no doubt you will. But can I get you to promise me you won't be sharing this with anyone." Lindsay begged. "As in not telling people?" Helen looked disappointed. Lindsay nodded. "Alright… But it's going to be really tough for me. I'll keep quiet but only because you're my best friend." "Thank you Helen. I know this is a big sacrifice for you and I'm really grateful you're willing to make it for me." Either Helen didn't hear the slightly sarcastic tone in Lindsay's voice or she chose to ignore it. "Well, Linds… Deep down I can be a really nice person." She said with twinkling eyes. "Soo… Are you in love with him?" This question took Lindsay by surprise. She hadn't really thought of that. Was she falling for him? But to Helen she answered: "No I'm not." Helen looked at her thoroughly. "I am not Helen! I mean… I'm not blind. I know he's attractive…" "Tell me about it!" Helen interrupted. Lindsay looked up. "You like him Helen?" "He's gorgeous! What's not to like about him?" Helen was amazed Lindsay could be so surprised. "But you haven't done anything about it. That's not like you!" Lindsay didn't quite know how to take this news. "Well, I thought *you* liked him…" Helen began to explain. "That's never stopped you before." Lindsay laughed. "Ouch!" Helen said acting really hurt. "It didn't! Don't deny it!" "I don't… That was a very hurtful thing to say." Helen looked so hurt that Lindsay immediately felt bad. "Look Helen, I'm really sorry. You're right… It was a mean thing to say." "Yes, it was." Helen said seriously, but then her face lit up with a big smile "…But I know you're right… I just wanted to see if I could make you feel bad about it!" Next thing a pillow was flying through air in the direction of Helen's head. "Go home Helen!" Lindsay laughed. "Are you throwing me out?" Helen tried to control her grin. "Yes, I am!" They looked at each other and burst into an uncontrollably laughter. "But I brought movies and snack with me." Helen explained while tears were running down her cheeks. "Why didn't you say that right away? You just bought yourself some extra time!" A couple of weeks later Rebecca closed the drawer in one of the file cabinets. She looked at her watch and sighed: 9.17 p.m. "This is it, I'm going home," she said to herself and started packing up her things. She looked through the open blinds to Bobby's office, where Bobby and Lindsay were working, and wondered if they ever planned to stop and go home. As she saw them she stopped packing for a moment. Lindsay was sitting on a chair by the table, Bobby was standing behind her leaning slightly towards her with one hand resting on the table, while the other hand absentmindedly played with her ponytail. They were obviously discussing the case they were working on, and it was as if Bobby wasn't even aware of his own actions. But to Rebecca it somehow seemed to be a very intimate moment, and she felt a little like an intruder just by watching them. She turned away. "A one night thing… Yeah right Bobby. How did I let you talk me into believing that in the first place?" She mumbled to herself while she put the rest of her things into her bag. For a moment she considered bursting into the office to say goodbye, and catching them red-handed but she dismissed the idea. She would rather have a serious talk with Bobby in the morning. To make them aware of the fact she was leaving, she made a great effort in making loud packing up noises before she knocked on the office door and slowly opened it, giving them time to make a proper appearance. They both looked up greeting her with a smile, but to her surprise Bobby hadn't moved away and he was still twisting Lindsay's hair around his fingers. Rebecca decided to pretend not to have noticed it, said her good byes and left the office. But her mind was spinning. How could she not have noticed it before? Come to think of it there had been so many signs. And now this. They had gotten so used to each other, that they didn't even realize they were in the office… She definitely had to talk to Bobby. "I not sure it will be a good idea to let Mr. Field testify, Bobby," Lindsay said and flipped through some files, "I have this feeling that he's going to make everything look worse…" She looked expectantly at Bobby waiting for his reply. But Bobby was in a totally different place. "You know Freckle, I don't think it's wise for you and Helen to go out all alone on Saturday," he said. To say the look on Lindsay's face was one of surprise would be an understatement. "And how do you get four elephants into a red Volvo?" She said. Bobby looked totally clueless. His mind was following another path. "Where did that come from Bobby?" She asked, "We were discussing the case, weren't we?" "Well, yes we were… I just don't like the idea of you and Helen being out on your own like that?" Bobby said in a lame intent to explain. A grin spread on Lindsay's face. "Are you afraid I might be a bad girl?" "No, I'm afraid something might happen, when you have no one to protect you." Lindsay's attempt to be funny totally dropped to the ground. "Why should anything happen? Helen and I have had girls nights out before. You're not starting to get over protecting on me now, are you?" She wrinkled her brows. "No… Look Linds I'm sorry… My mind was just wandering…" His apology was followed by an adorable smile. "Yeah, I would say that it was!" Lindsay laughed a little and had to fight the urge to just grab him and kiss him. That smile really did make him irresistible. "Let's just finish up here and go home, okay?" The next morning Rebecca was at her desk waiting impatiently for Bobby to arrive, hoping he would be in before all the others. She was in luck. "Morning Bec, you're in early," he said as he closed the door behind him. "Morning," she greeted him back. Bobby went to his office and didn't notice Rebecca following him until the office door slammed hard behind him. "Whoa, Bec… What's going on?" He asked surprised. "Funny… I was about to ask you the same question!" She said and starred intensely at him. Bobby starred right back. "You're not making much sense, Rebecca." "I'm talking about your one night thing with Lindsay." "What about it?" He asked getting a little defensive. "Oh, give me a break Bobby! Don't you think I can see what's going on?!" Her voice was rising. "I don't know what you're talking about!" Bobby said unwilling to meet her eyes. "We're not going to go through this again are we?! You know damn well what I'm talking about! This one night thing that, as it turns out, wasn't just a one night thing!" "I don't know what you mean." Bobby was still avoiding her gaze. "I am not blind Bobby! I saw you yesterday. You were all over her and you didn't even notice it yourselves." "I was not all over…" He started but was interrupted by Rebecca. "And a couple of days ago you called her Freckle at the staff meeting." "So? That was just to tease her." Bobby defended himself. "That's what I thought too. But she didn't respond to it, and knowing Lindsay she would definitely have sent a comment right back in your face. Then I realized she didn't respond because she's used to being called that, but I've never heard you call her that before. So I added two and two together… You two must have been seeing a lot to each other outside this office." Rebecca ended her speech and waited expectantly for Bobby to reply. But he didn't say anything, what could he say? He just sighed deeply. "Why did you lie to me Bobby? It must have been your intention to continue this all along." "I don't know. I guess I just knew you wouldn't approve." He shrugged his shoulders. "You're damn right I wouldn't approve, and I don't approve of it now!" Rebecca was getting angry now. Sometimes he could just be so dense. "You know you can't keep this going right?" "What are you saying, Rebecca?" Bobby asked while a cold feeling spread all over his body. "I'm saying… You have to come clean and tell the others… Or end it…" She wasn't enjoying this, but it wasn't fair to the others in the firm. And if they were to find out there would be a riot. "And what if we don't?" He asked in a defiant tone. "Then I will tell, Bobby… Believe me I will." She said and looked him right in the eye. Deep down he knew she was right, but he felt the anger towards her rising inside. She had no right to tell him what to do! He was the boss, wasn't he? "You know Bec, maybe I would fire you then!" He almost spat out the words. "Maybe you would…" She said calmly knowing that would never happen. She knew he was lashing out because he was sad and frustrated. It didn't take a genius to see he'd grown fond of Lindsay. "She won't agree to telling the others," he then mumbled and put his head in his hands. "I'm sorry Bobby, I really am… But what you're doing now isn't fair to them." She really did feel bad for him, but her conscience told her this was the right thing to do. Bobby was still sitting with his head in his hands, when she left the office and quietly closed the door behind her. Later the same evening Bobby was waiting for Lindsay to arrive at his apartment. He couldn't wait to see her and be with her again, but at the same time a small part of him wished she wouldn't show so he could postpone the conversation he knew they'd have to have. A few minutes later he heard the key turn in the lock and Lindsay step inside. "Hey Bobby!" She called out. "Hey pretty girl, I'm in the living room…" He called back suddenly feeling really sad. He couldn't let her go. How could he when all he wanted was to be with her… She came into the living room. A smell of fresh air followed her. "I've missed you!" She said as she walked up behind the couch he was sitting on, wrapped her arms around his neck and placed a kiss in his hair. A smile spread on his face. "I've missed you too…" He said and turned his head towards her. She kissed his lips and then pulled away. "Are you okay, Bobby?" She asked with a concerned look in her eyes. "Yeah, sure…" He couldn't tell her right now. He patted the seat next to him on the couch. "Come sit…" She sat down next to him. He put his arm around her, squeezed her tight and sighed. There was something troubling him, she could feel it, but she decided to let it rest. He would tell her when he felt up to it. An hour later Bobby was still holding on tight to Lindsay. "Rebecca found out about us…" He mumbled into her hair. "What!" She turned around to face him shocked. So that's what's bothering him. "She told me this morning…" "Well, how did she…?" Lindsay didn't finish her question. "You know Bec… She has a nose for these kind of thing." Bobby explained. Lindsay couldn't help laughing. It was a lame explanation, but somehow it hit right on the spot. Rebecca really did have a nose for digging up secrets. Bobby couldn't stop himself from laughing too. It lightened his mood a little. "You know what? I think her and Helen must have been separated at birth. They have the same well-developed radar." Lindsay said with twinkling eyes. "Yeah, I think you're right." Bobby laughed, but then he became serious again. Lindsay noticed this. "What Bobby?" She asked as she entwined her fingers in his hair. "She said it isn't fair to keep this – us – from the others…" He looked away knowing and dreading her answer. She sat quiet for a while. "Bobby, I can't… I can't…" She couldn't finish, she didn't know what to say. "Why?" He had to ask her. Why did it matter so much to her what others might think? Why couldn't she just ignore them and be with him? She sent him a pleading look, begging him to understand. "You know how they will react Bobby. They'll always wonder if you're treating me differently, because we're together, and I just can't take that. I'm sorry I'm just not strong enough. I know it sounds weak but it really does mean a lot to me what other people think of me." Tears were forming in her eyes and she rapidly dried them away. "So this is it then… We call it off…" There was a slightly bitter tone in Bobby's voice. She nodded slowly. "I'm really sorry, I am…" She said feeling the need to explain once again. He put his arms around her again, pulled her in even tighter this time and buried his face in her neck. "I know… Me too…" He mumbled. They sat like that for a while, then Bobby whispered: "Stay here tonight, please…" He felt her nod. So he got up from the couch and carried her to the bedroom, where they made the best of the time they had left… The next morning when Lindsay tried to sneak out of Bobby's embrace, he tightened his grip reluctant to let her go. She turned and put her lips to his forehead. "Please don't make this any harder, Bobby…" She whispered. He opened his eyes and looked at her for a moment, before he let go of her and turned around. There was no way he would be able to watch her walk away and do nothing. He closed his eyes… Lindsay got out of bed and got dressed. As she walked out of the bedroom she almost turned around, but she stopped herself knowing she couldn't go if she did so. As she unlocked the front door and stepped outside, she told herself this was the right thing to do – but then… Why did it feel so wrong? Lindsay nervously opened the door to D,Y,D&F. Bobby had seemed so cold when she'd left earlier that morning. She couldn't help wondering if he was angry at her. With a deep sigh she stepped inside. Everything seemed completely normal, but then again, why shouldn't it be? The others greeted her good morning as she sat down at her desk and began working. Bobby was watching her through the open blinds. He wanted to talk to her, wanted to explain his behavior this morning. But he had to wait. It would be too suspicious, he thought, if he asked her to come to his office when she'd only just arrived. So he waited twenty minutes, then he gave up and poked his head outside. "Hey Lindsay, can I talk to you in here for a second?" "Sure…" She said, got up from her chair and walked to his office. Bobby closed the door behind her. For a moment there was an awkward silence between them, then Bobby spoke: "Look Linds, I'm really sorry about the way I acted this morning, I guess I was just… I don't know…" He looked up and met her eyes, "I don't want things to get ugly between us, I want us to still be friends. Do you think that's possible?" Lindsay lit up in a smile and nodded. "Yeah Bobby, that's definitely possible." She felt relieved. "Good, I'm glad." He smiled back to her. They stood a little apart, touching each other now would be too weird. "I better get back to work…" Lindsay said. "Yeah…" She turned around, walked to the door and opened it, as he called out for her. "Hey Linds… How do you get four elephants into a red Volvo?" A smile was playing on his lips and his eyes were shining. "You put two in the backseat and two in the front seats…" She laughed. He made a grimace. "Get out of here Lindsay!" He waved her out with his hand while he laughed. As she closed the door she noticed the others staring at her. But for once she didn't really care. She and Bobby were alright and that was all that really mattered.
