Title: "The last time?" part 1 Author: Michal, hashavit@research.haifa.ac.il Author's note: as you can see, I'm still deep in the whole unrequited love thing. Just so you'll know, this is set in the morning after the episode: "save the mule" which was the episode that had made me a practice and B&L addict (fanatic, obsessive, compulsive, what ever...) and I still bit myself up for not taping it (I'm hoping for reruns). Anyway, I really hope you will all like it and you are more (much more!) than welcomed to e mail me... Disclaimer: yeah, yeah, I know they're not mine... --------------------------------------------------------------------- It was about 7am when Bobby started waking up. He was laying on his couch with Lindsay half on him, half beside him. His hands protectively around her waist. She was still asleep when he opened his eyes. Suddenly, remembering that it was the last time he was waking up with her like that, the last time their bodies were so close together, the last time they made love...he did not move an inch. He stroked her smooth hair, fully realizing how much he would miss her. Miss touching her. He just tightened his embrace and fell back to sleep, with Lindsay in his arms. Lust for a little while longer... --------------------------------------------------------------------- 8am. Now it was really time to get up. But this time the two of them woke up together. Slowly opening their eyes. "Good morning" said Bobby, not wanting to let go. "Good morning" Lindsay began to regain all conscienceless, but she wasn't waking up happy. "I guess it's time to get up," she said with slight sadness. They got up and straightened the rest of their cloths. "Oh, where's my briefcase?" Lindsay looked around, not finding it. Bobby leaned behind the couch and stood up to give it to her. "Here you go" he smiled. "Thanks" she smiled too, almost forgetting that this was goodbye. "I'll see you back here later" she left a small but sad smile when she remembered. She turned around to leave his office when he loudly called "Lindsay!" She turned back to face him, trying not to look him in the eyes. "Ha?" he kissed her. She immediately responded to his fierceful passionate kiss. But then, she stopped Bobby and pulled away. Reluctantly, so did he. Lindsay lowered her look so he wouldn't see the tears that began to appear in her eyes. "Bye, Bobby" she said and left the office. Bobby immediately sank on the couch, feeling more confused than ever. Then, he saw Lindsay's bracelet behind the pillow. He gave it to her two months ago and now, it fell during their last lovemaking. He didn't know what to do with himself. He thought he liked Helen and that he was just sleeping with Lindsay. But now... something about their last devotion to each other last night was different, but he couldn't bring himself to see what it really was. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Lindsay arrived at the office around 10am. Everybody was in there discussing a case. "Hey guys, good morning. What's up?" she smiled and walked over to them, first putting her briefcase and coat on her desk. "Jimmy wants to appeal the Johnson case," said Ellenor when they all crowded around Rebecca's desk. Bobby was also there, passionately participating in the argument. "I don't know, it sounds too risky" Lindsay sat on Rebecca's desk, drinking a cup of coffee she had bought across the street. "It's not too risky" then they all talked together, almost yelling. When they stopped a little Bobby stated "I'm with Lindsay" then their eyes met for a second. "Let me see the deposition, maybe we'll work something out..." Bobby got back to go to his office when he added "oh, Lindsay, can you come in here for a second?" "Sure" she got up to follow him, promising herself not to show her real feelings. "You know he won't win that appeal... that deposition is a waste of time" she entered his office, standing as far away as possible from the couch. "Yeah, I know it's a long shot..." Bobby put the deposition on his desk and walked up to her. "What?"" she asked with slight confusion. He reached his hand and took her bracelet out of his pocket, smiling. Almost apologetically. "That's where it was...I've been looking for it all morning" she reached her hand to take it but then he took her hand "may I?" "Sure" she looked at him when he put it on her hand. "It's beautiful on you" he remarked. "Well, you always had great taste" she smiled and left the office. Before shutting the door she asked, "that's all, right?" "Yeah" he said, completely lying. She then closed the door, glad to leave. Bobby just stared at the door. "Yeah...that's all..." he repeated. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Part 2 will be posted soon, maybe even tomorrow. Please tell me what you think... --------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Title: "the last time?" part 2 Author: Michal, hashavit@research.haifa.ac.il Author's note: enjoy!!! Disclaimer: see part 1 --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Bobby, over here" Helen called to Bobby when he entered the coffee shop. She told him to meet her there cause she wanted to talk, but Bobby had no idea as to what he'll say. "Hey, what's up?" he sat in front of her. "Not much, I have arraignment in half an hour so I can't stay long" "Ok..." he didn't exactly understand. " "Look, Bobby. I've been thinking it through and it's not just that stuck in neutral thing you've got going on in here, it's that" she kept talking, wanting to get it all out. "I don't think you're ready for this, you've got something too complicated for me to understand...and not only you. I just feel like it wasn't meant to be y'know? And I'll hate to lose you as a friend" she stopped and looked at him "Ok, now you can talk" Bobby was astonished, but peaceful in a way. "Helen, I don't know what to say" "You don't have to say anything Bobby. I just wanted to know if it's alright with you... and as a friend you can tell me what's going on in that head of yours, or heart" "Well, I guess I'm a bit surprised... and sorry that it didn't work out, but... I suppose you're right" "So?..." she smiled, regaining that friendship look. "What?" "What what? Who is she?" she laughed. "Who's who?" "You know..." "No, I don't" "Come on, Bobby... you obviously have some deep relationship issues and I didn't start them, so... who did?" He looked serious, not sure if he should answer. "I can't tell you" "Why?" "Cause you'll be mad" "What? Why?" it was now Helen's turn to look serious and confused. Bobby lowered his look. "It's Lindsay" words couldn't begin to describe her look but the word sadness could certainly describe his. "Oh my god" "You're mad" "I'm not mad... but how could that be? I asked her once if there was anything going on between you two and she said no" "Cause she didn't want you to give up..." "Give up what Bobby? You're a nice guy but I don't know you that much... if she would have just told me..." she looked at him, not able to read his expression. "So, are you like together or...?" "No" he whispered "Why?" she asked understandingly. "Cause she wanted me to try and have a real relationship, since we never had one" Suddenly Helen's bipper woke them. "Oh damn it, I'm late...listen Bobby, I'm not mad, but talk to her, or just look her straight in the eyes, you'll find out more. I have to go, I'll talk to you later..." she ran out leaving Bobby to sit at the table, writing a word on his napkin... he then realized that that word was 'Lindsay'. He sighed. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Good morning" Bobby entered the office to see Rebecca deep in paperwork. "Morning Bobby. How are you?" "Fine, what are you doing here so early?" "Just thought I'd get a head start on this" "Ok" Bobby went to make some coffee, when Lindsay arrived. "Morning guys" she was smiling. That smile made Bobby's heart jump out in joy. "Hi Lindsay" Rebecca smiled. As Bobby gazed at her he said "Hey" she walked over to her desk, putting her briefcase while the phone rang "Hello" Rebecca answered. "Hmm, just a minute" she then lowered the phone and whispered "Lindsay, it's that drug dealer Jack." Lindsay looked at her with fear and confusion. Bobby stared at her, remembering how she was two days ago with her last case. "Lindsay?" Rebecca asked impatiently. Lindsay's eyes met Bobby. Again he saw that fear. He walked over to the receiver "hello, Jack? Hi, it's Bobby Donnell. Lindsay's not in right now. What can I do for you?" he wrote a few things on a piece of paper "sure, no problem. So, I'll see you at 2 o'clock...yeah...bye" he hung up. When Rebecca looked at both of them she walked away to the conference room, knowing full well that something was up. "Thanks" Lindsay stated and leaned back on her desk, still shaken up. "No problem" Bobby looked long in her eyes and at some point she just couldn't take it and avoided the stare. "So...you want to talk about it?" "No" she just kept looking down. Bobby moved to lean back on her desk, next to her. He softly lifted her head with his hand. "Lindsay" "Bobby..." she took his hand and pushed it back, but when she wanted to let go, he didn't let her. He just kept holding her hand. "You don't want to deal with those cases, I get that" "You do?" she asked hopefully. "Yeah, I do" Bobby moved his hand to stroke her cheek when she stood up decisively. "Bobby, what are you doing?!" --------------------------------------------------------------------- End part two So? Tell me what you think cause I'm checking my e mail every day hoping to hear from you... --------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Title: "The last time?" part 3 Author: Michal, hashavit@research.haifa.ac.il Author's note: this is the last (but best) part. If you love B&L you'll love this (or at least I hope) Disclaimer: see part 1. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Well..." "Well what?" she now looked a bit mad. "I just thought..." "Look Bobby, you've got to make a decision here. This can't go on like this. Forget hurting me but what about Helen? She's my best friend. It's enough what happened two days ago..." "Lindsay" he stopped her. She took a deep breath and looked at him. "I've made a decision" he started "and I don't want you to get me wrong, I talked to Helen and" "You talked to Helen?" she looked shocked and nervous. "Yeah" "Well, what did you tell her? Is she mad? Have you told her about the other night? She'll never forgive me..." "Lindsay, it's ok. She's not mad at all. It's just that...we both agreed that it wasn't it" "Oh" she lowered her look. "Lindsay... I want you" "You mean you want to sleep with me" she really did look hurt. "No" at that moment Bobby realized that what they've been doing for the last few months hurt both of them. He got closer and closer until their bodies were pressed together. He wrapped his arms around Lindsay's waist "I want to be with you" he raised his hands to her face, stroking her hair and cheeks and neck. "I want to share my life with you... I don't want this to be about sex, cause... you make me feel so many things" their eyes locked on each other and Lindsay's hands touched his. "You make me feel a lot of things too Bobby" she whispered. "I guess I was afraid to admit it and..." he didn't let her finish the sentence. He moved his lips to meet hers ...he kissed her with such loving tender that has made their kiss taste so sweet. Lindsay wrapped her arms around his neck when he lifted her close to him, and deepened the kiss. Suddenly, the conference room's door closed and they quickly stepped away as Rebecca entered. That minute Jimmy and Ellenor walked in as well. Lindsay greeted them all and sat behind her desk. Bobby looked at her, trying to read her expression. "Hey Bobby!" "Ha, what?" Ellenor interrupted his thoughts. "Don't you have a bail hearing in half an hour?" "Oh, yeah, dam it... I have to go, I'll see you all later" he then opened the door and walked out the office, giving Lindsay a quick look before shutting the door. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hello" Lindsay picked up the phone in the office. "Hi" "Hey Bobby" "Is everybody there?" "No, conference room. It's ok, we can speak freely" "Hmm... I'm going to be finished at about 12 o'clock and I was wondering..." "Yeah?" "If maybe you'd like to meet for lunch? You know, the dating thing we never got to do..." "Yeah, I know" she smiled to herself. "So, you want to?" "Yeah, sure. I'd love to". They had scheduled to meet at a diner across the street. Lindsay walked in and looked around to find Bobby. But she couldn't. Then, she felt the soft touch of Bobby's hand, shifting her hair behind her ear. She turned around to face him. His hand still tightening her hair behind her ear. "Hey" she quietly said. "Hey. Come on, let's go get a booth" "Ok" they walked hand in hand to their booth and the waiter handed them the menus. "Now when you'll see my table manners you'll never want to go out with me again" "Oh really?" she laughed. Feeling complete to be with him. Not just as a lover, but as a boyfriend. 'boyfriend' she repeated it to herself, feeling happy. "You know when I was little all I wanted to do was skip right to desert" she told him right before the waiter arrived. Bobby didn't answer and just said to the waiter "we'll have the double fudge Sunday" he looked at her when her smile got wider and wider. "Oh, and... two spoons". Half an hour later. "Bobby, I think we're high on sugar" Lindsay laughed. "But I can't quit, you've got to try this chocolate syrup, it's addicted..." she said with the syrup on her finger. Bobby closely moved and sucked it of her finger. "Hmm...I think you're addicted" he gave her a long deep gaze with those seductive blue eyes of his. Then, he leaned towards her and gave her the most sensual kiss ever. When they gradually stopped kissing Bobby was still leaning close. Lindsay stroked his cheek with the back of her hand and whispered "Baby steps?" He kissed her shortly and leaned back to his seat with their hands still holding. "Baby steps" he smiled.
