Why Daredevil is One of the Best Superheroes
There are a lot of comic book characters, Marvel and DC, that I enjoy, but
Daredevil is one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite. There's one pretty big
reason for this, and it's all about repercussions. The consquences of being Daredevil
over any other superhero. Consequences that affect Matt Murdock, not just his alter
ego. The biggest one isn't even physical. Everyone knows about the toll being a vigilante
has on your bones, so that's boring. So to prepare for the third season of his Netflix
series tomorrow, let's talk about him together, but first, let's start with one of the
big three, Batman.
Think about Batman (both he and Daredevil being played by Ben Affleck), what
happens to Batman if people find out Bruce Wayne is Batman? Sure, Batman is a symbol,
in that he could be anyone, but if Bruce Wayne is outed, he's still the guy who
put all those criminals away. He still trained with Ra's al Ghul, he still blew stuff
up with a tank. But ok, he quits, then he can still resign as Batman, and have any one
of the number of people to take over as their own persona, or as Batman. Dick Grayson,
Tim Drake, Azrael, so many options. What about if it were to happen to Superman? If people
found out he were Clark Kent? Well guess what? He's still SUPERMAN! He
will knock your head off if you go after his family. What will knowing who's under the
glasses do? Nothing! OK, but these guys are DC, so maybe there's not a lot going on there.
What about Marvel's golden boy, Spider-Man?
Depending on when it happens, different things would take place if Peter Parker were to be
exposed. Early on, nobody would really care. He's some high schooler. So what if a mugger sees his
face? Or what about later on, as a city wide hero/menace? Sure, it would be pretty bad if he were
outed, but his family could be put under protective custody, as his main argument is that his enemies
would be out to get them. Once he becomes an Avenger (Superhero Registration Act or no), anyone he
wants to protect could just get housed on the Helicarrier. This man is said to have the most reason
for a secret identity, and I just tore that down. Now, a quick lightning round before the main event
Iron Man - Public Identity
Captain America - Public Identity
Luke Cage - THAT'S JUST HIS NAME!!!
So, what would happen if Matt Murdock were outed? He loses his job, firstly. A vigilante lawyer
would be disbarred faster than you can say "Avocados at Law". Not only him, but Foggy, his law partner,
would probably get disbarred as well, and to make matters worse, all of their cases would be overturned.
Anyone that Daredevil would have brought in, Bullseye, Kingpin or even that dastardly Stilt-Man would
be released, and would be protected by double jeopardy. They would be practically invincible in the eyes
of the law. An entire city's jails could be turned inside out with everyone being free, essemtially
forever. Makes blown out kees seem like a tea party.
