The
Gospel According to Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson? By
Staff Writer
So
what do we mean by headlining a story "The Gospel According to Bruce
Willis and Samuel L. Jackson"?
No, they haven't both gone into the ministry, but a movie starring
both of these talented actors does carry a potentially life changing
message if you're not careful.
The
film is "Unbreakable" which
was released in 2001 and tells the story of David Dunn (Willis),
who emerges from a train crash as the sole survivor...without a
single scratch on him! He meets a mysterious stranger (Jackson)
who, believing that comic book-type heroes walk the earth, challenges
Dunn to acknowledge that he has a unique gift.
After
time, Dunn realizes that he DOES have a special "power" or ability
that he can no longer ignore. He also realizes that this ability
comes with a sense of Purpose, a sense of being significant and
having an assignment.
If
you have seen our "Art Lessons" link on
our site, then you may have already witnessed how Purpose fits in
to it. When I first saw the scene where Dunn accepts his "calling",
it immediately reminded me of how God revealed to me the significance
of my artistic ability, my "power" sort to speak.
It
reminded me of how I felt when I realized that my talent was not
only God-given, but it came with a God ordained assignment. The
Word tells us: "For I know the plans I have for you,"
says the Lord."They are plans for good and not disaster, to
give you a future and a hope." (Jeremiah 29:11)
So
this movie is entertaining enough within itself to make you watch
it more than once, so go out a rent it and especially look for the
scene where Bruce Willis' character acknowleges who he is and what
he's been given, and then he asks the question "what
do I need to do?"
