Frederick Douglas (1818 - 1895)


Orator, writer, social reformer, former slave, and a leader of the abolitionist movement, Frederick Douglass witnessed firsthand the brutality of slavery and devoted his life to fighting against it.

A firm believer in the equality of all people, Douglass became a leading figure in the abolition of slavery.

His striking speeches and brilliant antislavery writings continue to influence and inspire us today.
