Top Ten Angsty Bishounen
by joudama
Where
would anime be without angsty bishounen? Hmm? Would I still watch it or
read it without them? Hmm? Hmm? Hmm?
1. A TIE!! Subaru from X
X16.
'Nuff said. There's a reason why I call him "His Royal Angstiness."
1. A TIE!! Izumi from Zetsuai (manga,
but the anime version was pretty angsty, too)
Has this
boy ever had a happy day in his life after age four? I mean, *jeez.* Hell,
he even had his puppy, Kouji, run over by a *truck* in front of him. A *truck*.
Not just hit by a car, but a *truck*.
And let's
not even touch the *other* Kouji (aka Mr. Obsessive Stalker Man)...
2. Kamui from X
The
only guy that even comes close to Subaru and Izumi. The people he loves
have this nasty tendancy to die on him. Or worse. (Can you say "Fuuma"?)
3. Aya from Weiß Kreuz
Silent,
brooding, angsty. And they give this guy a sharp, pointy object to play
with.
4. Yue from Cardcaptor Sakura
You
knew CLAMP had to put angst in CCS *somewhere*. Say hi.
.5. Hisoka from Yami no Matsuei
Life sucks. And then you die. And then you have to do paperwork.
6. Zelgadis from Slayers
His grandfather turned him into a living statue. And you thought your family was bad.
7. Kakyou from X
Will
someone just kill him and get it over with?
8. Trowa from Gundam Wing
He
doesn't even have to talk to angst. He does it just by breathing.
9. Aoshi from Rurouni Kenshin
Bitter,
bitter, angsty man. His men got killed in front of him, and he's going
to angst about it every second of every day until he kills the guy who
didn't kill them. Umm...wait...umm...yeah... <smile and nod>
10. Touga from Revolutionary Girl Utena
When
he lost the Rose Duel, he went into a depressive funk that would make
Subaru go, "Wow, someone get that man some Prozac."
Honorable Mentions:
1. Nearly any character voiced by Midorikawa Hikaru.
Includes,
but not limited to: Heero Yuy, Mikage, Rail Claymore, and Fiore. (However,
Michael from Marmalade Boy is *so* excluded. Genki-boy needs some
serious Ritalin.)
2. Tsuzuki from Yami no Matsuei
Most
of the time, he's a cheerful, happy guy. But when he angsts...hooboy,
does he angst. In the manga, in a fit of depression and self-loathing,
he tried to gouge out his eye with a large, pointed, rock. Owwwwwwwww.
3. Cho Hakkai from Saiyuuki
See
above. Only he used his fingers instead of a sharp rock. He even freaked
out the demon who had come to kill him with that little number.
