The Obesity Awareness and Solutions Trust
Statement on Closure

TOAST [The Obesity Awareness & Solutions Trust] is to cease operation following 10 years of advocacy and the promotion of Obesity Awareness.  MPs have been successfully lobbied by TOAST and its supporters. This culminated in the House of Commons? Health Select Committee?s inquiry into obesity which has now firmly placed Obesity as one of the Government?s main health priorities.

Commenting today, Ian Warburton, Chairman of the Board of Trustees said  "TOAST has effectively achieved its objectives of raising awareness of Obesity as one of the most significant health concerns of the 21st Century.

However, The Trustees have unanimously agreed that the task of finding the solutions to the problem is too large for a charity of this size. TOAST has successfully advanced the debate and we are now handing over the complex task of finding the solutions to other agencies better positioned to carry this out.?

He added ?It is with some reluctance that the Trustees have arrived at this decision as the Charity?s staff have been outstanding in their dedication and expertise. However, we are pleased by our success in establishing Obesity as a complex and multi faceted problem which is now recognised by HM?s Government as a priority to be addressed."
