Workshop on Food Sovereignty and Women
|
|
|
|
TNWF, TNDWM and SRED have attended to the session on Food Sovereignty
and Women, which has been organised by APWLD. At the session, participants
from around Asian region- such as Thailand, the Philippines and India-
have reported the situation of women in Agriculture. TNWF, TNDWM and SRED
presented that agribusiness which has been developed by multi-national
company had brought pesticide into Tamil Rural agriculture. TNDWM claimed
that the use of pesticide could threaten Dalit Women labourers' health
directly, and undermine sustainable and safe management of agriculture
in India.

|
|
At the session, TNWF offered free food to the participants. TNWF's products are totally pesticide-free and organic. Those products are safe for both- consumers and agricultural labourers. We strongly believe that, the promotion of enviromental-friendly food can also enhance human rights of dalits women.

At the plenary; "Eradication of caste discrimination" as Feminist
Agenda
|
|
At the plenary of the forum, there has been a lot of discussion on caste
discrimination and gender justice. Some women sent from higher caste community
in India claimed that the elimination of caste discrimination should not
be included in feminist strategies. Ms. Burnad Fatima of TNWF/ SRED as
well as Ms. Magimai of TNWF/ TNDWM strongly opposed to those remarks, and
presented the reality that Dalit Women can never be liberated from gender discrimination without eradication
of casteism.
