Getting to know me...
Hi there! I'm Laurette: mother to two children aged 13 & 14
and caregiver to many. I have called Ottawa my home for the past 17 yrs and just love it here. (We are blessed
with having many interests/festivals/activities and museums to offer families here.) I was very fortunate to
have been able to stay home when my children were little and discovered that I really enjoy the fun that toddlers
bring to a home. I opened my daycare over 10 yrs ago once my son had started Senior Kindergarten.
 I am the 2nd eldest
in a family with 5 kids and helped raise my youngest sibling while off from college. You can say that I have been
surrounded by children for as long as I can remember. I have taken leadership roles in activities prior to having
my own family and helped children grow and learn in some way: from teen babysitter to an assistant Cub
Scout/Venturer leader as well as an assistant coach position. Since becoming a caregiver I attend several workshops
a year on various topics involving the overall health and developmental growth of young children.
These experiences have enriched my life and helped me be who I am
today. I have learned many things and gained lots of useful knowledge over the
years. Children are wonderful little beings full of life, energy and
happiness, I can't help but love what I do. Watching them grow and learn new
experiences is a real joy and I am glad to be there during these important
years.

What I have
to offer...
I see each child as an exceptional little person with his
own qualities and capabilities. I also look forward in helping them grow in
their own unique way while providing them with comfort and understanding as
well as throwing in a pinch of love and a dash of some of life's lessons,
values and laughter along the way.
As a caregiver I believe in having a structured day filled with both
indoor and outdoor play, learning activities and free-play. I devote time for songs, games, story time, arts & crafts as well as
various themes throughout the year. All this is done in a bilingual
environment. I try to maintain a routine when it
comes to snacks/lunch and quiet/naptime. We may attend a playgroup outing
instead of regular morning activities to change atmosphere and visit new friends.
Crafts are a great learning tool as
well and we try to make a few fun things along with simple coloring and
paintings.
Daily journal: In this book I record such things as snacks & meals
served, naptimes, moods, activities and games. It is my way of letting parents
share in our activities and get to know how their child spent their day. This
is very useful when children can't yet talk about their day. This journal also
serves as a communication book between parents and caregiver and is good place
to post reminders and upcoming events.
