For many years it was believed that protons, electrons, and neutrons were the smallest particles known. However scientists have found that protons and neutrons are made up of even smaller particles called quarks which may in turn be made of smaller particles still. Where this will end is unknown but it is fun making up weird names for fundamental particles.
