Volatile does not really mean explosive or easily stressed as many newscasters would have you believe. (If a situation were truely volatile it would evaporate). A substance that is volatile has a high vapor pressure and evaporates easily. Water is a volatile substance but is far from explosive. However, there are many substances that are both volatile and explosive. Perhaps this is where the confusion started.
