Welcome

Welcome to Tippin Genealogy! I have created this website to showcase a selection of the more interesting stories in my family tree and to explain how I discovered the information. In doing this I am not only showing off my skills as a genealogist but also to give fellow researchers ideas and inspiration as to how the can break down their own brick walls.

To any new researchers just setting out on their family history odyssey I hope these stories give you some ideas as to the type of information you can come across and to explain that the hobby is not easy, you will find problems you will need to overcome with almost any ancestor. But don’t let this put you off, just take the issues in your stride, if you keep going at them eventually you will find the answer.

What will you find?

I have dug out four stories from my own family to share with the world. These case studies contain;

Case Study One: The first case study is about Ethel Mary Whitefoot. She was the illegitimate daughter of Mary Whitefoot and I had no idea of who her father was. With the aid of a genealogical DNA test I was able to discover her father’s identity and open up a whole new branch on my family tree.

Case Study Two: The second case study is about Florence May Bannister. Florence was my grandmother’s mother, but I did not know much information about her heritage. I explore how I was able to find out when she was born and take the Bannister family back further.

Case Study Three: The third case study is about Rosannah Tatham. Rosannah believed that her father was James Thomas Tatham but after much research I discovered that she was in fact the daughter of James Griffiths. I explore the records that lead me to the discovery that opened up a whole new family name in my tree.

Case Study Four: The last case study is about Albert William Smith. I explore how I was able to discover details about his service in the army even though his service records were destroyed during the Blitz. I explore how I was able to find out limited details about his service during the Second Anglo-Boer War and the First World War.

About Me

My name is Stephen. I have been researching my family tree for the past 18 years, so I have plenty of experience in finding out new and exciting facts about my tree. Like everyone else I have a wide range of different ancestors and thankfully I have been able to add detailed information to my tree. From law breakers to law makers, labours buried in unmarked graves to architects buried at Westminster Abbey, my tree really does have it all.

If you are interested in finding out any further information about my tree, or how I have managed to research the stories outline on this site then please don’t hesitate to contact me using the simple contact form found on this site.
