They all just looked at her and Jenai said, Well who wants to go?
A ten day walk, Jakob said.
In the Egyptian desert, Kevin added.
Looking for a temple, Dannika also added.
Sounds fun, Nickolas said.
Doesnt it sound fun? Jenai said smiling. Ive been waiting for this since I read all her notes and stuff.
The temples a legend, Jenai, Kevin stated.
And so was the diamond and treasure, but Gram Stevens found them, Jenai said.
Shes right, Nickolas said.
Cmon you guys, Jenai said. Itll be fun. After all thats happened we could all use a vacation.
Shes right, Nickolas said.
You guys had a vacation, Kevin said.
I hardly call that a vacation, Kev, Jenai stated.
Shes right, Nickolas agreed.
The doc probably wont let me dance yet anyway and Im going to need something to do, Jenai pointed out.
Shes right, Nickolas repeated.
Will you shut up, Kevin rebutted and they all laughed.
Cmon, Kev, Jenai started, this aint going to mean anything if I cant share it with you guys. I want you with me when I find this templejust like Gram wanted me to.
Kevin sighed getting up and said, Jenai, a trip like this takes planning and money. Ya just cant expect to hop on a plane and have things go your way.
I have the money so lets get planning, Jenai said.
Shes right, Nickolas said again and Kevin glared at him.
Jenai, I Kevin began, but she cut him off.
Im going with or without you, Kevin, Jenai stated folding up the map and putting it away along with the journal. She put the diamond, jeweled flower, and gold amulet in the case and locked it up. If ya dont want to go I understand, but youre not stopping me from going. She got up and they looked at each other. Its your choice, Kevin.
Yeah I know, Kevin said and Jenai walked back the hall. What do you guys think?
Its not a bad idea, Kristin stated. But I dont want to leave my babies so soon though. Kevin nodded. I think you should go though. Itd be a great bonding experience between you two. Plus itd be a great story to tell our children one day. She smiled. Itd also mean a lot to your sister. Were all she has left, Kevin.
I know that, Kevin said.
I have to do this for Gram, Jenai said from the hall. It was her dream for me to see the temple and Im going to fulfill that dream for her. The pictures are beautiful, Kevin, and wouldnt you love to have a story for your children that doesnt involve police shootouts? She grinned and he shook his head.
Fine, Kevin said. You win.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jenai said hugging him.
But
No buts, Kevin.
Were going to wait a year.
What for?
Just until after the girls are a year old. Kristin doesnt want to leave them yet and neither do I. She just looked at him a moment and then nodded. Thank you.
I cant deny you from spending time with your kids. I aint the mother.
Thank God. Kevin laughed and Jenai pushed him away.
Im going to go get my stuff and Ill be right back.
Ill finish loading up the cars, Jakob said, as Jenai walked back the hall again.
Kevin, give me a hand with your daughters, Kristin said. Theyre not stepping out that door without there jackets on.
Is there anything we can help with? Summer asked handing Brianna to Kevin.
You can go around and make sure everythings off, Kevin suggested. We wouldnt want to start a fire.
Ill go help, JJ, Nickolas said.
Yeah, you do that, Kevin said watching Nickolas, as he started making his way back the hall.
Kevin! They all stopped at the sound of Jenais scream and she came running out of her room. Kevin! She crashed into Nickolas and knocked him on the floor.
What is it? Kevin asked. Whats going on?
Someone was looking in the window at me, Jenai replied getting up.
Who was it? Nickolas asked getting up.
Im not sure, Jenai said. Their face was all burnt and red.
Alright, calm down, Nickolas stated.
I saw their eyes and I swear to God, Kevin, those eyes belonged to Marty, Jenai pointed out.
Hes dead, Dannika reminded her.
Whats going on? Jakob asked walking back inside. Who screamed?
Someone was peeking in the window at, JJ, Aaron stated.
What? Jakob said. Where the hell are they?
Still outside, Kevin said.
Ill kill em, Jakob said heading back outside. Ill kill the bastard.
Jakob! Kevin yelled and he stopped.
I think it was Marty, Jenai said.
Like I said, Ill kill the bastard, Jakob rebutted going back outside.
You girls go downstairs, Kevin ordered handing Brianna back to Dannika.
You go with, Aaron, Nickolas ordered his brother.
I can help, Aaron stated.
And I dont care, Nickolas said. Just go.
Fine, Aaron said following the girls.
Wait a minute, Jenai said walking back over. I almost forgot something. She picked up the silver case and they looked at her. No ones getting this thing. She started to the basement, but stopped and slowly backed up. Nickolas and Kevin watched, as Marty emerged from the shadows. Told ya it was him. They just looked at Marty, as he pointed the gun at Jenai.
Youre supposed to be dead, Kevin said.
Nice to see you too, Sergeant, Marty said. You too, Detective.
Dont you bad guys ever die? Jenai wanted to know.
This is reality, Jenai, Marty answered. Of course not. He smiled. Its amazing what miracles doctors can do these days. He took a bottle from his pocket and opened it up. They watched him put a pill in his mouth and he looked at them. Painkillers; you have no idea how bad getting burned hurts until your sister tries to blow you up.
You shouldve died, Jenai said.
Thats not nice to say, Marty stated and Nickolas and Kevin reached for their guns. Dont even think about it. Just give those guns to me and then sit down. Nickolas and Kevin did as told and Marty looked at Jenai. You too, Sis. She backed up to the sofa. Leave the case.
Never, Jenai said and Marty pulled the hammer back on the gun.
JJ, Nickolas said.
Im not giving it to him, Jenai stated.
Just do it, Kevin ordered and she looked at him. Hes not going to get far.
Put the case on the table, Marty said and Jenai did so. Now sit down. Jenai backed up to the sofa and sat between Nickolas and Kevin. Whats the combination?
Why would I tell you? Jenai asked.
Because Ill kill you if you dont, Marty stated.
Youre going to kill us anyway, Jenai pointed out.
I guess so, Marty said. Whats the combination?
Jenai shrugged and said, Figure it out yourself; I did. She grinned. Its pretty easy actually. I figured it out right away.
I dont have time for your games, Marty said. Tell me the combination or your boyfriend gets his brains blown out.
Jenai looked at Nickolas a few moments then said, There are three locks so three numbers.
And they would be? Marty asked.
The first is eleven, the second is twenty, and the third is nineteen eighty, Jenai replied.
Your birthday, Marty stated. Im not surprised since you were Grams favorite. They watched him unlock the case and he whistled after seeing the money. How much is that?
Eight hundred million, Jenai replied.
And you dont want to share? Why not? She just glared at him and he opened the black cloth bag and took out its contents. He held up the piece of diamond and looked at Jenai. Wheres the heart diamond?
Youre looking at it.
Dont play games. Where the hell is it?
Thats all thats left of it. Gram sold it piece by piece. How the hell do you think she made her money ya stupid shit? He sighed and looked at the other jewels.
I guess it doesnt matter. I got $800 million and three beautiful jewels. Ill get lots more for them. He put everything away and closed the case. I finally got what I deserved and now I can disappear. He pointed the gun at Jenai. Youre coming with me though.
Shes not going anywhere with you, Kevin said.
Its ok, Kev, Jenai assured him getting up. I aint afraid.
And you shouldnt be, Marty stated. Were family and were going to spend the next fifty years as a family. He picked up the case. Now lets go. He pushed her towards the door.
Didnt we just do the whole kidnapping thing last week? Jenai asked. It got pretty old pretty fast.
I aint kidnapping you, Marty said. Youre coming voluntarily.
Right, Jenai said, as the door was kicked open.
Stop right there, Jakob said pointing his gun at Marty and Marty grabbed Jenai and dropped the case.
She dies, Marty warned.
This is really old, Jenai replied sighing. And I mean really old.
Quiet, Marty said backing up to the back door and he ran into Kevin. He turned and saw the gun pointed at him. You guys are good.
We know, Nickolas said smiling. Now leave her go.
Never, Marty said.
Its three to one, Kevin said. What kind of odds are they? Not very good ones.
But I got Jenai, Marty reminded them. You have to shoot her to get to me. I dont think youre about to do that.
No, Jakob said. But there are other ways to do this.
How? Marty asked. The guys just smiled, as there was a gun shot and it got Martys knee, but he stayed standing. Ow! You guys are really good. Jenai elbowed him in the stomach and then flipped him over her shoulder like her Karate instructor taught her. The gun flew out of his hand and the three guys ran over.
Games over, Kevin said, as a few more officers ran in. You lose. He smiled. Read him his rights.
He knows them, Jakob said rolling him over and cuffing him.
Nice shot, Justin, Kevin said, as Justin stepped inside.
Thanks, Justin said. Are you all right?
Yeah, Jenai said. Not even a scratch. She looked at her hands. Not even a broken nail. They laughed.
Twenty years of training and you finally got to use some of it, Kevin said.
I would like to kick the shit out of him though, Jenai stated. But I guess itll have to do.
Howd you know it wasnt over? Nickolas asked.
I just had that feeling, Jenai replied. Spending seventeen years trying to hide a shit load of money and three jewels worth millions, youre bound to get a sixth sense.
Of course, Kevin said picking up the case. Im glad you got it. She nodded and looked at Marty, as Kevin opened the case. Ya know, Marty, I bet if you picked up the money you wouldve seen that it wasnt real. It has some counterfeit on top and the rest is cardboard. He threw it at Marty. And if you were a real jewel expert youd know these were fake. You wouldve ended up dead if you tried to sell fake jewels.
What the hell are you talking about? Marty asked.
Jenai knew this wasnt over yet and we listened to her, Kevin said. We found out you were still alive, the hospital informed us you escaped, and figured you would end up here. This was all a setup.
Why didnt you just leave me go? Marty wanted to know.
I wasnt about to risk my sister, Kevin replied.
Of course not, Marty said.
Will you guys get him out of here? Kevin said. Take him to the airport and well have a doctor waiting. The officers nodded and took Marty outside.
