�We went up to the pediatric wing and they said you were down here,� Brian said. �What�s going on?�
�Sunnie�s hemorrhaging pretty bad so they had to bring her down here,� Nickolas said maintaining his outside composure, but inside he was breaking down and everyone knew it. �They did have it stopped, but it didn�t last long. They want to find out what�s causing it, because if they don�t she could�she could die in the next 24 hours.� He left out a sigh and walked away.
�It�s alright to cry little brother,� Kevin said and Nickolas shook his head. �It�s normal. Being afraid and worried and crying is normal. God ain�t going to hate you.�
�I have to be strong for Sunnie,� Nickolas said.
�Nickolas, you�re stubborn,� Kevin said.
�You don�t understand,� Nickolas said. �None of you understand. Until you go though what we are you�ll never understand.� They looked at him. �I didn�t want her life put in danger, but I did it anyway.�
�This ain�t your fault,� Brian said. �She�s going to be fine, because she has you and a wonderful future waiting with you.� Nickolas didn�t say anything and continued looking out the window. �When did she go in?�
�About 45 minutes ago.�
�We�ll get good news shortly,� Kevin said.
�Where�s Venus and Danielle?� Aaron asked.
�Venus wasn�t feeling well,� Kevin said. �So she wanted to stay home and rest.�
�Dani just didn�t want to come,� Brian replied shrugging. The waiting room door opened and they looked.
�Doc, how�s Sunnie?� Nickolas asked rushing over to him.
�She�s going to be fine,� Dr. Lewis said. �We found the cause and were able to fix it. It looked like one of the instruments cut her. It was about one and half inches, but everything is fine. She was a good sport.� Nickolas let out a sigh of relief. �The nurses are getting her comfortable in ICU.�
�Can I see her?�
�In a couple minutes. I�ll have a nurse come get you.� Nickolas nodded. �Any questions?�
�How long will she have to stay?�
�Just a couple of days until she�s strong enough. She�ll be awake in a few minutes.�
�Thank you.�
�This is my job. If you�ll excuse me.� Jacob walked out and Nickolas stood there a moment. He looked at the others and they smiled.
�I told ya it�d be good news,� Kevin said and Nickolas hugged him. �She�s perfectly fine.� Kevin patted his back and Nickolas hugged Brian and Aaron. He picked up Drake and spun her around as a doctor walked in.
�Mr. Carter,� the doctor said and Nickolas looked while putting Drake on her feet.
�Dr�� Nickolas began, but couldn�t remember his name.
�Martinez,� he said. �Carson Martinez.� Nickolas nodded. �Dr. Matheson explained what happened to your wife and she asked me to look over her while she�s down here.�
�Alright. Can I see her?�
�That�s why I came. I just want one at a time though for right now. I don�t want too much excitement.�
�We understand,� Kevin said.
�Good,� Carson said. �Right this way, Mr. Carter.� Nickolas followed the doctor out and the others stood there glad Sunshine was ok.

�Hey, Sweets,� Nickolas said sitting beside Sunshine on the bed. She looked at him and managed a little grin. �Dr. Lewis said you weren�t awake yet.� She shrugged and reached for Nickolas� hand. Nickolas took her hand and she squeezed his. �Everything�s going to be fine and I�m glad you�re awake.� He kissed her hand. �I was so worried.�
�I�m fine,� she said weakly.
�I know.�
�Come here.� She motioned him closer.
�What�s wrong? Are ya in pain?� She kissed him. �I guess only the pain I can fix.�
�Yeah.�
�Then I�ll help anyway I can.�
�Good.�
�When you started hemorrhaging I was so scared. For the first time in my life I was helpless when it came to you. I thought I was going to lose you.�
�But you didn�t so don�t worry.� She grinned.
�I don�t think I�ve ever been this happy. When the doctor said you were going to be all right I was doing flips inside.�
�Because of me?�
�Yes, because of you. Who else?� She shrugged. �I just wanted to let out a yell of joy.� He smiled. �I love you so much.�
�And I love you.� He kissed her. �Do you know how long I�ll be in?�
�Dr. Lewis said a couple days until you�re strong enough. Don�t worry though, because I�ll be right here with you everyday.� She went to smile, but winced in pain. �Are you all right?�
�I just got this awful pain in my back.�
�Should I get the doctor?� She shook her head. �Sunnie.�
�Nicky, I�m fine. Dr. Matheson said I�d have pain.�
�Don�t lie, because I was there.� She gave a little grin. �I�m going to go get Dr. Martinez.� She just looked at him. �Don�t give me that either, because it ain�t going to work.� She made a face. �I�ll be right back, ok?� she held on tighter to his hand and he looked at her. �What�s wrong?�
�I just�I just don�t want ya to go.� He saw a tear go down her face and she wiped it away.
�Hey, it�s going to be all right.� He leaned down and hugged her. �Everything will be perfectly fine.�
�I just gave up my children, Nicky. My little boys. How do I live with that?�
�We�ll get through it. We just have to take it day by day.� She didn�t say anything and held onto him.
�Knock, knock, knock,� came Brian�s voice and they looked. �Doc said it was alright to come in for a minute or two, because he wants you to rest.�
�Oh,� Nickolas said sitting up straight.
�You don�t mind do ya?� Kevin asked.
�Not at all,� Nickolas said and Sunshine just nodded in agreement. �I�m going to go get Dr. Martinez anyway. I�ll be right back.� He gave Sunshine a kiss and got off the bed. She just looked at him as he walked out.
�So how do ya feel?� Kevin asked standing beside her.
�Tired,� Sunshine replied. She started moving around and they watched her. She wanted to sit up but it hurt too much. She reached for Kevin�s hand and grabbed it.
�Are you all right?� Kevin questioned concerned.
�I think I need a doctor.�
�Nick�s getting one,� Brian said.
�It just hurts so much.�
�What does?� Kevin asked.
�My back.� She squeezed his hand.
�I�ll go see what�s taking so long,� Aaron said running out.
�It hurts. It never hurt like this before.�
�Well ya just went through a lot,� Kevin said smoothing her hair back and trying to calm her. �Everything will be fine.�
�I just want my Nicky.�
�He�s coming, Sunn,� Drake said standing on the other side of her and taking her hand. �He�ll be here any second.�
�I need him.�
�I know,� Kevin said.
�Everything�s going to be fine, Sunshine,� Carson said coming into the room with Nickolas, Aaron, and a nurse.
�I wish people would stop saying that,� Sunshine snapped and Nickolas walked over to the side Drake was on. Drake stepped out of his way and he took her hand.
�It�s all right, Sweets,� Nickolas said.
�No it�s not,� Sunshine said through tears. �I just had an abortion and almost died because of you.� She pulled her hand from him and started getting up. �I fucking hate you, Nick!� She started hitting him. �I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!�
�Sunnie, calm down!� Nickolas said fighting her.
�Kristin, go get an orderly,� Carson ordered.
�Yes, doctor,� Kristin said running out.
�I hate you, Carter!� Sunshine yelled fighting Nickolas and Carson. �I hate you all! You don�t care about me and never did! I hate you all!�
�What�s happening to her?� Kevin wanted to know.
�I ain�t sure,� Carson said. �My guess is shock. I�ll be able to tell in a few minutes once she calms down.� Kristin and an orderly rushed in and the orderly pushed Nickolas out of the way. Nickolas stood there and watched and Kevin pulled him over to the corner.
�I�m sorry, but you guys are going to have to step outside,� Kristin said.
�But I want to stay with Sunnie,� Nickolas said.
�Nick, I�m sorry but you�re going to have to go,� Kristin said, as Nickolas just looked at Sunshine.
�We understand,� Brian said and Kevin pulled Nickolas out of the room.
