Nickolas sat in Sunshines hospital room with her and was waiting to take her home. He sat on the bed with her as she looked out the window. He took his fingers through her hair and she leaned against him. She put her hand on her stomach and looked at Nickolas. He smiled and gave her a kiss and she smiled in return before looking back out the window.
Did you ever think about cutting your hair, Sweets?
Did you ever think about dying yours brown?
No. Are you nuts?
You have your answer.
I was just asking. Its just that your hair is so long.
I thought you loved my long, silky smooth shiny brown hair.
I do. He gently tilted her head back by her hair and she looked at him. But I love you more. He smiled.
I love you. They kissed. Why would you suggest I cut my hair?
I wasnt suggesting. I was merely asking if you thought about it. If you ever cut your hair Id have you in divorce court.
Funny, Carter.
I love you hair. I got something to run my fingers through when were sharing those very intimate moments together.
Yeah.
You know you like it.
No I dont.
What? Why not?
Because you pull it.
Whatever.
And it hurts. Why do you think I yell out so much?
That aint yelling, Sweets, thats moaning.
Its yelling.
No. I know the difference between your yelling and your moaning.
Im glad you do, but Im yelling.
Well figure that out tonight. He smiled.
So hows my patient? Barrett asked stepping into the room.
Ready to go home, Sunshine replied. You said I can go home today.
I said maybe on Monday. I wasnt sure.
Come on, Doc, I really want to go.
I really want her to go to, Nickolas chimed in.
Im going to run some more tests first, Barrett said.
Please no more tests, Sunshine groaned. Thats all ya been doing and Im so sick of needles.
I just want to make sure everythings all right before I release ya. I dont want ya back in here in, like, two days again.
I wont be. I promise.
Im sorry. I have to run the tests.
She left out a disgusted sigh and Nickolas said, Sweets, let him do his job. Its for you own good and I want you to be healthy as possible. I dont want to have that scared feeling that youre going to leave me againlike I did this time. Sunshine just looked at him. Im serious. I had no idea what was going to happen to youto us. I was scared out of my mind.
Fine, Sunshine said. Run your damn tests so I can get out of here.
Thank you, Barrett said.
Yeah. Whatever.
Dont get an attitude now, Nickolas said and Sunshine glared at him.
A nurse will be in a few minutes to get some blood samples and the other stuff Ive been running, Barrett stated.
Alright, Nickolas said and the doctor walked out.
What are we going to do with all these flowers? Sunshine asked.
Take them home of course. Most of them are from your fans.
I know. I just didnt think they cared so much.
Well they do and you should be grateful.
I am. I just got a bunch of replies to send out.
I can help.
No, because you did so much for me already. I can do it before I got to Texas.
Excuse me?
I want to do some of my scenes before I start showing.
When did you decide this?
The other day. I am the star after all and I have to do my job.
I wish you told me.
Sorry.
Special delivery for Mrs. Carter, the nurse said.
Thanks, Sunshine said taking the box. She put it on the bed and didnt see a card. Nickolas watched as she opened the box and then gasped. Wha- She looked at the dead black roses.
Another fan? the nurse asked.
Far from it, Nickolas replied.
That bitch, Sunshine said.
Its ok, Sweets, Nickolas said picking up the box. Ill be right back. He left the room and Sunshine just shook her head.

It was a few hours later and Sunshine was still sitting in her hospital room and waiting patiently to go home. As she waited for Nickolas to get back from the cafeteria she sat in the wheelchair by the window and looked at some cards from her fans. She sighed and looked out the window, as there was a knock at the door. She looked and saw Dr. Martz standing there.
HI, Christian said.
Um, Dr. Martzhi, Sunshine said as he walked over to her. What are you doing here?
Please call me Christian. She nodded. Your friends told me you were in and I thought Id stop by and say hi. She just looked at him. And also wanted to give you this. He held up a teddy bear and flowers, but she said nothing. I thought you might like them.
Theyre nice. Thank you.
Youre welcome. She said nothing. Ill just set them over here. He put the stuff on the bed tray. Sunshine looked back out the window. Well I just came to say hi quick.
And you did.
Yeahso Im going to get back to work. Maybe Ill see ya later. Sunshine didnt bother to say anything, but continued to look out the window. Christian walked over to the door and looked at her once more before walking out.
Once she knew he was gone, Sunshine said, Maybe not, Creep. She left out a disgusted sigh. Why me?
Mrs. Carter, the nurse said walking in. I have your medication.
I dont need it.
Thats up to the doctor and I aint the doctor so take it.
Fine. Sunshine took the pills and water from the nurse. She took the pills and looked at the nurse. Happy?
Yes.
Could you do me a favor?
Sure.
Those flowers and teddy bear on the tray there; could you get rid of them for me? Give them to charity; keep them for yourself, or something.
Dont you like them?
Theyre from someone I dont care for. I dont want to look at them.
Ill see what I can do.
Thank you.
Youre welcome. The nurse picked up the stuff and walked out of the room.
Sunshine sat there another five minutes alone until she heard, Ok, Sweets, Im back. She looked and smiled, as Nickolas walked over. Did ya miss me?
Always, Sunshine said as they kissed. What took ya so long?
I was trying to find a gift as perfect as you, but then I realized its totally impossible. Nothings as perfect as you.
Whatever.
I did get this though. He held up a white teddy bear with I love you sewn into it.
Awe, its cute. She took it from him. Thank you.
Youre welcome. He kissed her.
So I got a visit from Dr. Martz.
Excuse me?
Yeah. He brought me flowers and a teddy bear. Apparently my wonderful friends told him I was in and he wanted to say hi.
Hi my ass. He must be high. Does he know youre married?
Of course. I told him the first time we met.
And he doesnt take a hint.
Nope. I aint interested so dont worry. Now if it was Tom Cruise showing interest Id be returning it. She smiled.
I know you would. I cant compete with him.
Of course not. They smiled.
Alright, Sunn, Barrett said and they looked. Im going to make a deal with ya.
Ok, Sunshine said.
Ill let ya go home today as long as you promise to take it easy for about a week.
Alright. I will then Im going to go to Texas.
Just wait about two weeks. Wait until you know youre calm.
Im calm now.
She insists she is, Nickolas replied. I think otherwise.
Whatever. I am perfectly fine.
I still want ya to take it easy, Barrett said. Just in case.
Alright.
She will, Nickolas assured Barrett. Ill make sure of it.
Ok, Barrett said. Then youre good to go.
Finally, Sunshine said.
You can change and Ill be back with your release forms.
Good. Barrett walked out and Sunshine looked at Nickolas and smiled.
