It was a beautiful autumn day and five girls drove along the open road in the middle of nowhere. Neither of them knew where they were going exactly and neither of them really cared. They were free to do whatever they pleased and didnt have to answer to anyone except for each other. All they had with them was a few sets of clothes, a couple CDs and about $3,000 between them. The driver, half White-American, half Native-American, 55, long brown hair, brown eyes, and petite, looked in her mirror at the bus behind them and said, Check out that bus. I bet its someone important. Like who? the front-seat passenger, African-American, 510, medium length black hair, hazel eyes, and a little heavier than the driver, asked. Elvis? They all began to laugh and looked at the bus behind them. What if its the Backstreet Boys? one of the other girls, White American, 56, shoulder length brown hair, brown eyes, also petite, asked. They are on tour. Destiny, youre dreaming again, the first passenger stated. Mr. McLean is not going to come and sweep you off your feet anytime soon. Sunshine, will you keep your eyes on the road and not on that bus, a third passenger, also White-American, 510, long auburn hair, green eyes, and the same size as the front seat passenger, requested. Danielle, quit back seat driving, Sunshine snapped. At the next stop I said you could drive. Until then keep your mouth shut. Well I want to make it home alive and not in a body bag, Danielle smirked and Sunshine gave her the middle finger. Venus, Sunshine began, How much dough do we got? I last counted twenty-five hundred, Venus, the front seat passenger, replied looking in the mirror. That was back at the last stop when we got gas. That guy standing beside the driver looks like AJ McLean. What? the four girls asked and they all looked. That isnt AJ, Destiny said. But I seen him somewhere before, I know I did. Hey, Josephine, Danielle said. Do you mind getting your foot off my nice clean Skechers? Sorry, dude, Josephine, half White-American, half Puerto Rican, 55, long blond hair, blue eyes, and again petite, asked as they all turned front. Rest stop next seven miles. Hurry up, because I got to pee. Yeah, yeah, calm your hormones, Sunshine said putting on her sunglasses and cranking the music. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Twenty minutes later, the five girls pulled into a rest stop to get gas, go to the bathroom, and change drivers. Venus and Danielle were in the store looking for goodies, Josephine was in the bathroom, and Sunshine and Destiny were outside putting gas in the jeep and talking when a bus pulled in next to them. The two girls stood there watching, not saying a word, as a big black guy got out. They watched and whispered, as the guy started pumping gas into the bus. He looked over at the two girls, as they giggled and they quickly turned away. They looked into the window of the bus and noticed the two guys peeking out. Sunshine finished with the gas and then she and Destiny started towards the store. Three more guys got off the bus and followed the two girls into the store. Hey, guys, Destiny said, as her and Sunshine found the other three girls. Remember that bus that was behind us? Yeah, Venus said. Well its outside by the Durango, Sunshine replied. I thought we lost it, Danielle said grabbing a bag of chips off the shelf. So did I, Destiny agreed, as Sunshine and Josephine walked away. They turned the corner and as they went into the next aisle, Josephine ran into a tall guy and Sunshine ran into her. The three of them just stood there and looked at each other then the guy said, Im so sorry, ladies. Th-th-thats ok, Josephine managed to say. Are you ladies all right? the guy asked. Yeah, both girls replied. Are you? Im good, he said. I have to get going, but maybe well see each other around. Yeah, Sunshine said, as the guy walked away and they watched him walk out the door with two other guys. Do you know who the hell that was? Josephine asked grabbing Sunshine and they both said, Brian Littrell! They started jumping up and down and Josephine added, And I touched him. Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! And did you see who walked out the door with him? Sunshine questioned and the two girls said, Nick and Howie! They started jumping up and down all over again and the other three girls turned the corner. What the hell is your problem? Danielle asked and the two girls stopped and looked. Nothing, Sunshine lied trying to control her excitement. Well I think we got all the munchies we need right now, Danielle said. Cool, Josephine said. Well meet yas outside. She pushed Sunshine towards the door. Whats wrong with them? Destiny asked, as she, Venus, and Danielle walked to the checkout counter. Who knows, Venus said. I know whats wrong with them, Danielle said. We forgot the Doritos. Oh well, Destiny said shrugging her shoulders and putting the food on the counter. The three girls paid for their stuff and went back outside. As they walked to the Durango they saw Sunshine and Josephine talking to someone. The closer they got the more they realized who they were talking to. Dani, V, and Des, Sunshine said, Meet the one the only Kevin Richardson. Kevin, meet Danielle and Destiny Horowitz and Venus Davis. No way, Venus said. Way, Josephine said and she and Sunshine smiled. Quit staring you guys, Sunshine said, as the four other guys approached. It aint nice, ya know. Hello, ladies, Brian said. Hi, Brian, the five girls said smiling. As he pointed to each girl, Kevin said, Thats Sunshine Robinson, Josephine, Danielle, and Destiny Horowitz, and Venus Davis. You three related? Howard asked. No, D, Nickolas said sarcastically and rolling his eyes. Thats why they have the same last name. Howard glared at him. Were cousins, Danielle replied. Cool, Alexander said. I seen you two inside, didnt I? Brian asked Sunshine and Josephine and they nodded. I was surprised you guys didnt flip out. Most of our fans do, Alexander stated. We did after you walked out, Josephine said. Who said we were fans, Sunshine said and they all looked at her. Hmm? So thats what you were jumping up and down about, Venus said and Sunshine and Josephine grinned. We have to get going guys, Howard said. Maybe well see you lovely ladies again, Nickolas said looking at Sunshine, as she looked at him and bit her bottom lip. Maybe, Sunshine said. If youre lucky. Nickolas gave her a crooked smile and she smiled at him in return. The two of them continued looking at each other, as the others continued talking a little more. We better get going, Kevin said. Bye then, Venus said. Bye, the guys said walking back to their bus, but Nickolas stayed where he was still looking at Sunshine. Come on, Nicky, Howard said pulling him along. See ya, Nickolas said. See ya, Sunshine said watching him. Nickolas got on the bus behind Howard and looked at Sunshine once more before disappearing. She stood there smiling and watched, as the bus drove off. She saw Nickolas look out the back window and gave him a little wave. He smiled at her and waved in return. She watched as the bus drove out of view and Danielle said, I cant believe we just saw the Backstreet Boys. Neither can I, Venus agreed. And they actually talked to us. Yeah and you three looked like idiots, Josephine pointed out, as they got in the jeep. I so didnt want to be around you guys then. Who cares, Destiny said. Lets just go. Sunn, come on, Danielle said getting in the drivers side. Sunshine looked at them and then walked over. She sighed and got in the passenger side, as Danielle started the Durango and drove off. CHAPTER 2 HOME |
